About Anne McGinty

I am from Atlanta, GA and my husband is from the Bay of Islands, New Zealand. After attending Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, I worked in Australia and traveled in New Zealand where I met my husband! We love San Francisco and our light filled and peaceful apartment. We have recently relocated to Sonoma County to raise our growing family and enjoy coming into the city periodically to walk the neighborhoods we know so well.

Anne McGinty purchased this apartment in 2008

Why Anne McGinty chose Sunset District

We originally lived in the Inner Sunset, then moved to Pacific Heights (which is also a great neighborhood, but with a completely different feel) and ended up moving back to the Inner Sunset. The Inner Sunset has a great location and is a wonderful neighborhood for living like the locals do. There are local restaurants for every budget from $-$$$$. And, we love being near Golden Gate Park because we enjoy the green space on a much more regular basis when it's right there!

What makes this apartment unique

We fell in love with the view and how light and airy the place feels. Sometimes the Inner Sunset feels like one of the undiscovered neighborhoods of the city - it's GREAT and recently some very established boutiques and restaurants have decided to join this increasingly popular spot. The Inner Sunset is the main neighborhood for anyone working at UCSF, including new interns and residents! It's down to earth and you can grab a burrito for $5, but it also has some of the best award-winning restaurants in town including Ebisu (Japanese) and Marnee (Thai). Soon to open is a Nopalito (Mexican) and Pasion (Peruvian in the Fresca Restaurant family) are great date spots for a slightly pricier dinner. We love the peace and quiet with the close proximity to the boutiques and restaurants... It makes for a great walk home after dinner.

Everything we were looking for

  • 5 of 5
This property is even more amazing than described and photographed here. It is light, airy -- almost beachy but sophisticated; kid-friendly but not kid focused. True to the neighborhood's name, our family enjoyed an amazing sunset from the dining room window on our first evening. The unit is very clean and pleasant with amenities including wi-fi, laundry, comfy beds, a well equipped kitchen, and an amazing deck to take in the gorgeous views and crisp San Francisco air. The owners clearly put a lot of thought and care into this place. We appreciated the binder of recommendations!

My husband and I stayed here with our two children, ages 3 and 5, and found it to be the perfect launching pad for our day trips into Golden Gate Park/Crissy Field and Wharf/Chinatown. The N-Judah, one block north, might seem pokey at first but provides a very efficient trip to Powell/Union Sq. There is a fantastic grocery store (Andronico's) and many delicious restaurants within walking distance. Don't resist the urge to climb the beautiful tiled staircase across the street from the house! Keep going up and you will find Turtle Hill, which you can ascend to enjoy spectacular 360-degree views of the city!

The only negative experience was a passive aggressive note from the downstairs neighbors on our first night, which they taped to the front door before ringing the doorbell and leaving. They asked us to "remember" that people lived below them and that the walls and floors were thin. Our young children do occasionally scamper (which we were subsequently more vigilant about) but we never wore shoes and kept decent hours. This did not dampen our stay, but it would have been helpful to know ahead of time that the walls were thin. Future guests might appreciate this info so that they and the neighbors could be spared the awkward interaction.

All in all, we could not be more pleased with this property and would rent it again in a heartbeat if we were so lucky to return to San Francisco.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review :)!
That is a good idea to give people a heads up about walking 'softly' for the people living below. When we lived there (and, there was a different person living in the middle floor), we had a toddler, a dog, and my fairly heavy-footed 6'3" husband... we would get reminders too, so don't feel too bad :) It's part of living in SF with the older buildings... this one is a 1939 building with the original lath and plaster walls. Thank you for taking the note with a grain of salt. The folks in the middle floor are friendly, so I don't think would have meant for it to make you uncomfortable :).

We hope you come and visit again!

Perfect Place to Stay!

  • 5 of 5
This was our first time using VRBO or anything like it, and we must say we were left in awe! I don't think I will ever stay in a hotel again.

First off, Anne was an absolute treat. She took out absolutely any worries that we may have had (being our first time) and made the whole stay fantastic.

The place itself is heaven! Very, very bright and spacious. There are 3 rooms in total and a beautiful living room as well. But none of this compares to the amazing deck! I was out there every single morning reading a book, while the sun was rising over the city with the ocean on the left. We spent very little time in the apartment itself but when we were there, it could not have been more peaceful.

The place is well located near a train line which will get you to everywhere you need to go. There are also restaurants, cafes and grocery stores close by.

Free Wifi worked well, as did everything else.

It truly was the perfect stay. I will try and book this place every time I come to SF as I do have family here.

I could go on and on, but really just don't hesitate, you will not be disappointed! Book this place today!

Thank you for a lovely stay Anne, we will for SURE be back!

We had a wonderful four days in this lovely apartment. It is bright, cheerful, clean and has great sunset views. Beds for 5 were comfy. Our 3 boys loved that it was blocks from golden gate park, street parking our minivan was easy, lots of good restaurants made it convenient to get tasty take-out after long days of touring SF when the kids didn't want to go out to eat. Depending on traffic, it takes around 20 minutes to drive to the embarcadero from this location, but there is lots of very convenient public transportation within a block of the apt. I highly recommend this place for a family with kids!
