We are happy to tell you that we have finished our restoration after Sandy's unwelcome visit in October of 2012. All new appliances, upholstered furniture, refinished hardwood floors and new rugs are installed, and the garden is as pretty as ever. WE ARE NOW ACCCEPTING INQUIRIES FOR JUNE, 2015 AND BEYOND.
This centrally air conditioned traditional Bay Head house dates from 1937 and offers a complete vacation venue. There are four bedrooms (which sleep six), two full baths and an outdoor shower, There is a screened front porch, redone in art deco style in 2014, and a broad back deck for al fresco dining. The kitchen is new in 2010, restored to the art deco style of the 1930's. A paneled full size living room, separate dining room and dedicated breakfast room with a full view of the professionally designed garden complete the floor plan. The home is immaculate and fully furnished. Amenities include wi-fi, flat screen tv and dvd, an outdoor grill, ample linens and kitchen accessories. Most rooms have ceiling fans if you choose to live without a/c. A gardener maintains the garden, and weekly lawn service and all utilities and four beach badges are included. At the end of your stay, just leave the laundry and clean up to us.
There is a lot within walking distance. The private beach is two blocks, with an upscale restaurant about five blocks from home. Across the street from the restaurant is a sandwich/breakfast place, plus get a newspaper or a bottle of wine! It's about four short blocks from there to Bay Head center - a bakery, wine, spirits and cheese shop and a number of gift and women's wear shops. Another six or so blocks is the train station with service north to New York's Penn Station. Overall, it's about a mile from the house to the train station, a flat and pretty easy walk past Twilight Lake.
My wife and I all live in the Atlanta area. Our most recent all-summer tenant left us after nine years to buy another house of their own just up the street! We miss them, as they came to love this house as much as we do.
Ginny Donnelly purchased this house in 1961
This location suits our lives very well. The house has been in the family for more than 50 years. Bay Head has the small town flavor that we grew up with, and we can walk easily to a restaurant, the bakery and get the morning paper. And if we are ambitious that day, it's a mile to the train station where the City and points in between are great to visit.
We love the way this house provides a cozy and welcoming environment, where you can mix the sand and the surf with civilized living.
Stayed here with 5 adults and had many fantastic nights relaxing on the sun drenched deck while barbecuing dinner.
Being only a couple of minutes walk from the beach (with included beach badges) and handy for the small town made it so easy for us, giving us the option of sandy walks, dips in the sea or wandering to the shops to pick up a treat - either a new top or something sweet depending on who was shopping!
The house is so comfortable with everything we needed already provided and super accommodating owners who are delightful to deal with.
Such a lovely place, easy to escape on the train from New York, recharge & take a break from the city.
