Privately owned, 'Idle Wine Estates' is a two bedroom and one full bath house located in Pine Cove, 3 miles from Idyllwild town center. The house has an open floor plan and lots of natural light with windows from the floor to ceiling in the front. Both bedrooms have a window and french doors leading to the back yard that faces giant pine trees. The high vaulted wood beam ceilings add to the openness and airy feeling. The house is newly furnished and updated with bamboo floors (except for carpeting in the bedrooms) and stainless steel appliances including a dishwasher and gas stove. The owners of 'Idle Wine estates' love to cook gourmet meals and have fully stocked the kitchen. Enjoy BBQ'ing on the large front deck while watching the playful squirrels, variety of birds and the occasional coyote run by. Idle Wine estates also has a separate laudry/mud room with its own entrance. A separate large storage shed is available for your 'toys'.
So whether you enjoy hiking, mountain biking, shopping and visiting the many restaurants or staying in and relaxing, Idle Wine Estates will add to your vacation experience.
Please note that the cabin does not have cable (we do have movies for your enjoyment or close by video rentals). Though we don't discourage children, the house is not 'child proof'.
Scott and Nicole live in San Diego and take every chance to get away to the local mountains. They enjoy the outdoors including camping, mt biking and hiking. And after 'playing hard' in nature, they enjoy cooking gourmet meals and a glass of wine, hence the name 'Idle Wine Estates'
Scott or Nicole purchased this house in 2011
Scott and Nicole have been coming up to Idyllwild on a frequent basis to mountain bike the miles of single tracks and fell in love with the town. The town is big enough to host numerous fine restaurants, a theatre and galleries but still have that small town feel. Idyllwild is an easy and scenic 2 - 2 1/2 hour drive from San Diego making it a perfect weekend getaway.
What a wonderful home!!! Our family went up to "Idle Wine Estates" the week of New Year's. It was perfect. It snowed all day and we felt very comfortable and cozy staying in this fully equipped home. It has everything you need set away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It's decor is simple yet elegant. Scott was quick to respond to any questions we might have. We look forward to renting it again. I highly recommend this home/retreat. It is the perfect getaway!!!
The cabin was very nice and comfy. They had everything from towels, to cooking supplies to a washer and dryer. The only thing was it gets extremely hot during the afternoons and even with the windows and fans going, it was easily well over 90 degrees. But overall, we really enjoyed our stay. Thanks Scott.
We were so pleased with our stay at this home! It was well-maintained and very clean. There was plenty of room for us (2 couples and 1 toddler) to relax, eat meals, read, chat, and play board games. We loved hanging out on the porch and also chatting in front of the cute fireplace (which turns on with the touch of a button)! Nice full size bathroom. Easy drive into town. We'd highly recommend it and would come here again! Prepare yourself for no internet or cable. The fold out bed was a bit uncomfortable when used as a king-size bed (crack in between the beds). But other than that, this is a nice quiet break and awesome home where you can relax and enjoy time together. The owner was generous to allow us to check-in early and check-out late since we came during the week. Also had an ample supply of kitchen utensils to cook with. Super good value for what we paid. We definitely prefer this over any hotel. Thanks Scott and Nicole!
On the minus side of the Scale...Some first-time visitors may end up confused when they learn that Pine Cove is the official mountain village for this listing, not Idyllwild; Unless I unwittingly set my brain to 'stop thinking mode', there's no evidence of any cable TV viewing choices, which tends to make guests' conversations about night time entertainment options rather brief; Future visitors may meet with the same puzzlement we met with when we realized that only the 'front half' of this updated property is well heated: the bedrooms at the cabin's backyard-facing side only have tiny, low-wattage cubicle work space heaters. The shower head height in the 1 bathroom may be too low (Appx. 65 inches) for tall or portly visitors also. (positive water pressure, however.) Lastly, the lack of window coverings on the front of the cabin created a privacy issue for us during our stay. This next part of the review is only intended to highlight what in hindsight feels like a communication breakdown between us and the property owner. One of 2 owners told me, upon my telephoned request for driving directions, that he would provide those in 2 days. He acted in good faith, however, the directions were incomplete. This lack of detail on the owner's part caused us headache in that I had to interview the Pine Cove Chevron station clerk who kindly provided me a free street map. I also experienced disappointment stemming from that same clerk's inability to tell me where Sugar Pine Drive was located and how to get there, despite the street being a mere 300 yards away. On the plus side of the Scale...unless the weather was heavy winter and freezing or below freezing conditions – we conclude that this vacation rental is fairly priced and we quite honestly would be willing to rebook this property on a future visit. The incompleteness of the property and the lack of a whole-house heating system are what's stopping us from giving this a 5-Star rating. I would venture an opinion that it's superior to many other renta-cabins in the vicinity, however, ...and that should help any readers of this review feel confident in making their 1st booking of Idle Wine rental chalet.
We were looking for a clean, private cabin for a long weekend getaway at a great price, and we found it here! This cabin has been nicely renovated. It has a nice TV with a dvd/vcr combo with some movies to watch (there is no cable or internet access in the cabin, which is what we liked). The fireplace is gas, which was easy and convenient, but there is just something about having the smell and crackle of a real fire. However, when we got there it was a bit late, and being able to just push a button on a remote to get the fire started was very nice. I would definitely return, and I wholeheartedly recommend this property!
As city dwellers in Southern California, we wanted to get away for the holidays and transport to a place that really captured a traditional wintry feel. Our first trip to Idyllwild last spring had been spent in a motel and was mediocre, so this time around we wanted a place that we could call our own for a few days. Scott and Nicole's "Idle Wine Estates" was the perfect place to hit all the criteria we wanted--a sizeable kitchen with all the modern amenities (seriously--literally EVERYTHING we needed to cook a full Christmas dinner was available!), easy to operate pot-belly stove that kept things cozy and in a holiday atmosphere, convenient laundry room, two good-sized bedrooms, and a powerful, quick-heating shower that was much-appreciated in the chilly weather (it gets cold up there!!). Though there was a huge flat screen on which we enjoyed watching a few movies, we found ourselves out on the patio very often, just to take in the fresh air and beautiful scenery--and of course, the solitude. There was some snow on the ground when we arrive and our son, who has never seen snow fall, had a chance to do so on the morning we left. It was the perfect way to finish the trip.
At first, we had wanted to find a place in town, but after staying here, I prefer this location. The property is about 3 miles from town, located off a side-road, which was VERY quiet, and we loved it because we could enjoy the bustle of town, but get away to this beautiful spot. Don't worry, in case you get snowed in, there's a little gas station and convenience store just a short walk down the road! Hiking trails are halfway between the house and town, so it's all right there for you to explore.
All in all, this was a very memorable stay, and Scott was really accessible, as another reviewer mentioned. We felt that we could touch base any time if there was a problem or question. We will definitely stay here next time we visit Idyllwild!!
