Our Home (Away from Home) for the Holidays

As city dwellers in Southern California, we wanted to get away for the holidays and transport to a place that really captured a traditional wintry feel. Our first trip to Idyllwild last spring had been spent in a motel and was mediocre, so this time around we wanted a place that we could call our own for a few days. Scott and Nicole's "Idle Wine Estates" was the perfect place to hit all the criteria we wanted--a sizeable kitchen with all the modern amenities (seriously--literally EVERYTHING we needed to cook a full Christmas dinner was available!), easy to operate pot-belly stove that kept things cozy and in a holiday atmosphere, convenient laundry room, two good-sized bedrooms, and a powerful, quick-heating shower that was much-appreciated in the chilly weather (it gets cold up there!!). Though there was a huge flat screen on which we enjoyed watching a few movies, we found ourselves out on the patio very often, just to take in the fresh air and beautiful scenery--and of course, the solitude. There was some snow on the ground when we arrive and our son, who has never seen snow fall, had a chance to do so on the morning we left. It was the perfect way to finish the trip.
At first, we had wanted to find a place in town, but after staying here, I prefer this location. The property is about 3 miles from town, located off a side-road, which was VERY quiet, and we loved it because we could enjoy the bustle of town, but get away to this beautiful spot. Don't worry, in case you get snowed in, there's a little gas station and convenience store just a short walk down the road! Hiking trails are halfway between the house and town, so it's all right there for you to explore.
All in all, this was a very memorable stay, and Scott was really accessible, as another reviewer mentioned. We felt that we could touch base any time if there was a problem or question. We will definitely stay here next time we visit Idyllwild!!
