Guestbook comments from the owner

Had a great time in Fort Collins. Our daughter who will be a high school senior this year and two of her friends toured the campus and loved it. If she chooses CSU we will be back to stay for sure, great location!

Cosy apartment in very convenient location

  • 5 of 5

I was a visiting academic at CSU for nearly a month during Sept/Oct 2012, and stayed in this apartment throughout. It's a very cosy apartment in a really convenient location, just 4 blocks from Coopersmiths and all the other attractions in Old Town, and a couple of blocks from the CSU main campus. Restaurant 415 was 2 blocks away and a fantastic place for lunch or dinner.

The apartment is well furnished and has everything that a single person or couple would need for a comfortable stay (iincluding wifi, flatscreen TV and a DVD player). The kitchen and bathroom are VERY compact (!) but perfectly adequate. The heating made the place very cosy as the Fall weather got colder, and there was parking available on the road directly outside. Dave and Janet were also very helpful and sorted out a small issue with the apartment within 4 hours for me - great service ! Would recommend this as a good place to stay in Fort Collins.

ummm... Not so much.

When I stay at a VBRO home, I am careful, considerate and leave it clean in an attempt to make the cleaners job easy. I guess other people are not the same and this owner has had trouble in the past. I paid a cleaning fee for this tiny apartment which would have taken about an hour to clean, including linens. The owner not only emailed about how I would have to pay for an entire set of any individual item that might be damaged in anyway but the welcome book had plenty of threats of charges for similar. Apparently the towels and sheets are fancy "Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein." I would have preferred less fancy but fresher smelling and less crunchy sheets. After all that, the place was not super clean with hair in the tub and plenty of dusty corners. I noticed prior complaints led to owner demanding to know why she wasn't called immediately. I hardly wanted to ruin my visit calling in the owner and pointing my finger. All interaction with the owner felt very snippy. My deposit was returned after almost exactly 30 days "per the contract" which I was reminded of by the owner, when I emailed her to make sure everything was ok. I had heard nothing from her, 3 weeks after my stay. And as others mentioned, you need to be fit to use the shower. Otherwise, the location was excellent for walking around town.

Owner's Response: This is a historic property with some interesting connections. One of the earliest residents went on to be one of the first woman professors at a very small Ag college, which is now the bustling campus at Colorado State University. A few years back we gutted the apartment to the studs and re-did all of it, keeping the great historic features, such as high ceilings, wide wood trim, carved pocket doors, etc. The local historic group asked us not to replace the windows, as they were probably 'first cut wood', so we hired a local craftsman to go through each window so they would operate smoothly, at a tidy sum per window. The furnishings are newer, with clean lines. Some of the linens are Ralph Lauren, some are Tommy Hilfiger, some are Ikea, they change on a rotational basis. We have had the same cleaning crew for several years and we typically get compliments on their work. We had no communication from this guest until the review popped up. Not sure what we could have done to improve the stay, but we sure would have given it our best effort! We dote on our historic properties and hope to have guests who also enjoy the historic connection, as they stay in Old Town Fort Collins, a great place to explore, shop and dine out!

Delightful town, delightful lodgings

  • 5 of 5

We spent 10 days at this location, happily and comfortably. Clean and well-maintained. As-advertised in terms of location, appearance and amenities. Owner was communicative, cooperative, and not obtrusive. Use the list of nearby restaurants that the owner provides, and you can't go wrong. A great selection. Safeway is just down the street, if you want to cook for yourself. Great bike trails, parks, pubs, coffee shops, and attractive neighborhood. Parking on the street was never a problem. We could have skipped the car entirely, except for trips up into the Rockies, because everything needed is nearby.

This is a small but perfect apartment for a couple. The location couldn't be better to walk to great restaurants and activities in old Ft Collins. The bike trails are amazing. We'll come again.

Great Spot!

  • 5 of 5

Our three night stay in this great little apartment could not have been better. We enjoyed the house and it's great location, close to everything! While we had a car the entire stay I barley used it at all, really only to get to and from my sister's wedding. It was a great home base for us while we were there and I will definitely keep it in mind for future visits.

Clean, Charming, Unique, ... all is good!

  • 5 of 5

Perfect! Beats the heck out of staying in a hotel room. We checked in on Tuesday and checked out on Sunday. Five superb nights, excellent location about a block southeast of Old Town. Everything was clean and charming at the "Turk House". The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The flat screen and internet worked perfect. The kitchen is updated and modern with plenty of glasses, cups, and utensils. The bathroom is an adventure and unique but perfectly clean and usable. The shower is in an old bathtub with claw feet. (I think they were claw feet? HA!) The patio was nice with a little table and chairs. We would definitely stay here again! AAA+++
