West Cork is a magical place. We are 2 miles outside Skibbereen a bustling market town which has traditional bars, a range of restaurants and pretty much all the shops you could want. There is also an indoor sports centre with sauna, gym, indoor football pitches as well as outside tennis courts etc. There is also an 18 hole golf course c 1 mile outside Skibbereen. Also near by is Baltimore , a lovely fishing village and sailing centre from which you can get the ferry to Shirkin Island and Cape Clear (Gaelic speaking). Lough Hyne , the deepest salt water lake and nature reserve in Europe is about 3 miles away and has a great walk up the hill behind giving fantastic views across the islands out to the Fastnet light. Bantry and Clonakilty both have cinemas. Ballydehob has one of our favourite restaurants 'Annies', the other is 'Island Cottage' on Hare Island, which is a short ferry ride. Beaches, bars, walking, swimming, traditional music sessions, sailing, fishing ..it is all here.

Notes: This is very much our Irish family home and we hope you will find it has a really welcoming feel. We have books, games, CDs, DVDs etc. We also have a dolls house and various toys for the younger ones. The furnishing, fixtures and fittings are of good quality with many original and unique features. There are open fires and wood burning stoves (as well as central heating) and plenty of wood available in the woodshed. Outside the garden and woods are great to explore, there is a huge trampoline and benches and seating dotted about the place. Getting to the house involves driving down our bumpy lane and opening/closing a couple of gates which our children always compete to do. We have a dog who comes with us to the house, however, he is never allowed upstairs or on any furniture. If you want to bring a pet then subject to the same rules this will probably be OK. The barn conversion is a new addition and is available for use by people letting the house for a small supplement

A Great Weekend at The River House!

K5000 Cork, Ireland
Review Submitted: June 9, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
My friends and I had a fabulous stay at the River House on the June Bank Holiday weekend. We arrived Saturday afternoon to the idyllic house and garden, we found the house to be homely and tastefully decorated, clean and comfortable with plenty of space for our group of 8.
The garden was a joy with the trampoline the best craic we'd all had in ages! The weather was hot and sunny all weekend (we were very lucky!) and there was plenty of garden space to soak up the sun! The woods and river bank provided some welcome cool tranquility when the heat got a bit much. The River House was a fantastic place to stay, a real escape yet not too far from Skibereen. We thouroughly enjoyed our time there.

A perfect place for a family holiday,or to relax.

Review Submitted: April 17, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2008
The house is full of charm, and extreemly comfortable with all "mod cons". The location is very peaceful and yet provides lots of scope for children and adults to enjoy themselves. You may feel you dont want to leave the River House but if you do explore beautiful West Cork there is so much to see and do. Skibereen is a delightful old town and there are lots of coastal villages to visit and enjoy.
We have stayed with a young family and on another occasion with senior adults. They all left with sadness and anxious to return.

Fantastic house which feels just like home - idyllic location right next to the river - everything you could want for a family holiday or a complete get away - very easy not to leave once you are there but if you chose to there are masses of fun things to do near by - climbing Lough Hyne is a must - the view from the top is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. Highly recommended.

Wonderful family holiday. Thank you

Review Submitted: March 22, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2008
We have stayed at the River House 3 times now. Every time we get there we immediately feel completely relaxed and at home. It is a great place with the children with fantastic woods to explore and make dens in, aswell as the trampoline which gave endless hours of fun. The local farmer Tom is a great character and Jim and Dee who look after the house could not have been more welcoming.

The last time we went we took another family with us and the set up with two bedrooms and a bathroom at each end of the house was ideal

We would certainly recommend it
