Grand Cayman Bungalow Rental Photos and Description

If you enjoy being on the beach, Castaway Lodge by the Sea is a cleverly designed and thoughtfully appointed cottage set back 125 feet from the water’s edge. It is a charming, immaculate and well equipped, air conditioned studio style bungalow situated on a half acre, with your own private beach. Although small and compact, what it lacks in size it makes up for in character. Castaway is the ideal spot for couples who are outdoor oriented and prefer the seclusion that the grounds provide.

While you are more than able to cook and enjoy your meals inside the cottage there is an outdoor grill and large patio table with chairs under a tree shaded grotto. And after your meal you can take a relaxing stroll along the beach or just nap in one of the two hammocks under the cover of coconut palms.

The lodge is situated in historic Bodden Town, away from the hustle and bustle of Seven Mile Beach but centrally located for exploring the island. Trips to the Mastic Trail, Botanic Park, East End, Rum Point and Turtle Farm are easily accessible, but you will find abundant indigenous wildlife right outside your front door! There is a ‘changing station’ for hermit crabs, wild Cayman parrots scouring the sea grape tree for fruit and you may even spy an iguana in the almond tree!

This is the ideal escape to the place you’ve dreamed about for too long. Worry-free, romantic, idyllic, relaxing----a chance to recharge and spend some quality time with your love on this authentic Caribbean Getaway!

About Turtle Nest Inn

Susan and Thom are originally from Baltimore, Maryland but they met in Cayman. Thom was working as a dive instructor at Don Foster's Dive and Susan was visiting Cayman on a dive vacation. 'We met on a dive trip to Stingray City and the rest is well...history.'

They decided to call Cayman home and bought a dilapidated beach house in the heart of Bodden Town that they renovated and have lived in for over 15 years.

'After Hurricane Ivan destroyed most of Bodden Town and the Island we had to sart all over. We were lucky to find Castaway and decided to renovate the existing structures and make them available to visitors.' The lodge was first to be finished and became available to guest in 2011 and now the cottage is ready too. 'We have tried to make them unique and special and if you come to Castaway we hope you will find our little piece of paradise as magical as we do.'

Guestbook comments from the owner

This was by far the best place to stay. Our Honeymoon was lifted to such heights staying here. The privacy needed for two newly weds and the beauty of the island all met together beautifully at our cozy spot. The hammocks, sun, sand and of course the sea made our trip unforgettable in every way. Sandy regards and wishes, Niki & Rob

Can't wait to return!

Can't wait to return!
  • 5 of 5
After visiting Grand Cayman on a cruise in 2012, my fiance and I decided that we wanted to return to spend a full week there. We stayed at Castaway Lodge for a week at the end of 2013 and vowed to return.

We are in our 50's and things that are important to us on a vacation are dealing with friendly people, clean and private lodging, beachfront property, ability to eat "in", and close proximity to excellent snorkeling. Upon our arrival at the Inn to pick up our Lodge key and snorkeling gear, we immediately shifted into true vacation mode. It was a gorgeous day, we only saw about 5 people on the property and Marlene was very friendly and welcoming. We were pleasantly surprised by a cute and spotlessly clean studio-type room with a kitchen that had every appliance you could imagine. From the hammocks outside the door, to the shade of the trees, the green vegetation and the gorgeous aqua waters with the warm sandy beach, the Castaway Lodge was true to all the photos we had seen. We fell in love with the property.

Shortly after arrival Susan, Thom and Koda came by to welcome us. What a delightful family! The rum cake that Thom made was delicious and Susan' artwork is still displayed in our home. The sight of Thom and Koda walking the beach is forever ingrained in my memory.

The snorkeling was some of the best we have every done. The water was filled with colorful fish and the beach was empty. There really was no need to drive anywhere else to snorkel when you could literally walk out your back door down a path to your own private beach/snorkeling, but we did take a short drive to Spotts Beach where we swam with the sea turtles.

Each evening we visited the hermit crabs at the changing station. We ventured out a few times to dinner at some excellent local restaurants. One evening we went to Rum Point for dinner and the Bioluminescence Bay Tour (highly recommended but be ready for a good workout). We had a really windy day where we spent some time inside our room and we were able to watch the Broncos game on cable tv in the privacy of our room.

Before we left we were already making plans for our next trip to the Castaway Lodge. We no longer need to search for our "perfect vacation spot". We have found our home away from home.

Fabulous place to stay and enjoy Grand Cayman!

  • 5 of 5
Castaway Lodge is an exceptional value in one of the most beautiful settings possible. You enjoy your own private stretch of beach. Try to do that on Seven Mile Beach! The lodge is new and beautifully appointed. The owners have left no detail unattended to, from kitchen gear to beach towels to a phone where you can make local calls. The grounds of Turtle Nest are immaculate and peaceful. My wife and I have been to Grand Cayman many times. The Lodge is the best place we have stayed hands down. We give it a solid six stars for value, and we can't wait to return again. You will not be disappointed!

It's what you need....

It's what you need....

Castaway Lodge may be small but it's very efficient and exactly what you need to really enjoy a Caribbean beach vacation. The property is where it really shines. A large and private piece of property with a natural feel. Pathways through Sea Grape, Tropical Almond and Coconut trees that lead to your own beach with fantastic snorkeling right off shore. Thom & Susan were very hospitable and keep the house and grounds very neat and clean. Multiple coconut trees shade the property right outside the cottage with hammocks stretched between them and table and chairs to enjoy meals/drinks. The hermit crab shell changing station provides much entertainment at night, kept my daughter and I busy for hours. You get the feeling of a second home rather than a hotel guest. Thom's rum cake and Susan's art are an added bonus, much better than a mint on the pillow or generic prints on the walls of a hotel. Make sure to ask Susan to see her other art and maybe purchase something to bring home.
The cental location is great for branching out to explore the other areas of the island. Grocery stores and places to eat are nearby. Beach Bubbles gift shop right across the street also a must to visit.
The Turtle Nest Inn was nice to have nearby to make use of their amenities...the staff was very nice and helpful.
We hope to return soon. Thank you both for a great place and a very relaxing trip. If I were a hermit crab and Cataway Lodge was a shell, I'd trade my shell out in a second :)
p.s. Susan, your art looks great in our home!

Very Romantic and Charming Lodge!

  • 5 of 5
This was our very first visit to Grand Cayman. We loved staying at Castaway Lodge in Bodden Town. The owners of the cottage-lodge, Thom and Susan, were beyond graceful. We felt like they were old friends we hadn't seen in years! They make you feel so welcome, without hovering. They keep the property in pristine shape, yet it's comfortable and peaceful. The cabin is not lacking in one single thing! For being so small, it truly does have everything a couple needs for a relaxing, romantic vacation just steps from the beach. The snorkeling was the BEST on the island, once you get past the turtle grass. We will forever remember this vacation in large part due to this vacation rental. If you stumble across this little gem, grab it up! You won't be sorry. We even asked to purchase some of Susan's artwork so we could bring home a little piece of the paradise we found at Castaway Lodge......

Amazing Week at The Lodge

  • 5 of 5
We went to Cayman for our wedding and picked a spot away from everyone else. The Lodge was perfect. We spent most of our days driving around and sightseeing. I spent the mornings walking the beach and snorkeling in the ocean immediately behind our place! When we arrived Thom stopped buy and welcomed us to his place. He also brought a homemade rum cake and his wife Susan hand made some post cards. What a couple! The rest of our week was perfect. The weather cooperated for our wedding; we snorkeled near our place and found our way around the island to explore all it has to offer. The Lodge has Wi-Fi and clean water. A full kitchen to cook whatever you desire. You have access to pots, pans, silverware, plates, bowls, cups and about anything else you might need! The Lodge is about the size of a hotel room. The AC works wonderfully and you can watch satellite TV or watch a DVD if the weather doesn't cooperate. There are also two gas stations within walking distance. 3/4 of a mile away is Chester's - a local dining place. You also have the option to order pizza or drive 20 minutes to Georgetown for many more options. We highly recommend The Lodge for visitors looking for a unique place.
