I found this little piece of paradise about 5 years ago as a retirement house. Now, after a complete renovation into separate apartments I am delighted to be able to share its charms with others.
Rose Robson purchased this apartment in 2005
I bought the Ancienne Maison because of its charm and location, central but in a quiet location in the village.
The Ancienne Maison des Gardes has a 500 year old history reflected in the well worn steps trodden through centuries by the local guards. The charming internal courtyard is protected from the Mistral wind.

We absolutely LOVED our stay here! The rooms & views & especially the courtyard area made our stay much more unique & enjoyable. Also, thanks so much for all the wonderful recommendations on where to go around town & to the wineries! It was fabulous! We hope to come back & visit again!
The apartments that Rose and Robin offer in Lourmarin are everything and more than the website describes! We stayed in the largest of the 3 apartments. It had 2 rooms...a good sized living-dining-kitchen room which was well furnished with everything we needed to cook a meal, relax and watch TV. The second room is the large bedroom with ensuite bathroom. All of the linens are first class and even some scented items were provided for the bathroom. Very clean and tastefully decorated. Rose is a fountain of knowledge for places to go and things to do, and her restaurant recommendations were excellent. The garden is a restful place to read a book or just soak up the sun. We would definitely go back and would recommend this apartment to everyone. We also stayed in Rose's son's house which has recently been reconstructed into an absolutely beautiful showplace. The house is large with a nice courtyard for outdoor living. The prices for both the apartment and the house were very fair.
Absolutely loved our stay at Ancienne Maison des Gardes. An ideal location to base out of for a thorough perusing of the Luberon Valley and beyond. The Courtyard Studio was a perfect size and very comfortable for the two of us. The Studio decor was also to our liking - understated and light with unbleached linen accents. Liked being 'in town' without the noise and bustle of the middle of the village.
Rose and Robin have enough ideas, maps and guidebooks to keep you busy for weeks. Their restaurant recommendations steered us toward exceptional meals at equally exceptional prices.
Overall the Courtyard Studio is an excellent value in a perfect location with delightful and attentive hosts.
Loved our stay in Lourmarin, a pristine, charming, largely undiscovered village, a gracious lady of a village that whispers her charms rather than shouting them in a tourist trap manner. The apartments offered by Rose and Robin are in the most convenient and quiet location at the edge of the village. Never used the car unless leaving the village. Postcard views, steps to all the amenities of the village life. Loved dining at L'Antiquaire for a special lunch; enjoyed the "center of activity" ambience of Cafe Gaby for most of our meals and snacks. Never found better cappucino anywhere else for the rest of our trip elsewhere! You feel like you are staying with old friends, and Rose and Robin are the consummate hosts, offering thorough, personal advice on everything large and small. Clean, quiet accommodations with wonderful bed, large bathroom with wonderful shower and tub, and romantic dinners on the courtyard terrace. Would recommend to anyone who wants to stay in this part of Provence. You'll remember your congenial hosts, and dream of beautiful Lourmarin forever.
Lourmarin is designated as one of the most beautiful villages in France. The village centre hosts many excellent restaurants. Cafes spill out onto the pavements and there are many galleries, designer boutiques, antique and gift shops. There is an excellent Friday morning market of local produce and artisan wares.
There is always a lively programme of events, including antique, book, truffle and other fairs, free music concerts, film evenings, etc. During the summer, the Protestant Temple is used as one of the venues for the Roque d'Antheron international piano festival. The Chateau sponsors a musical programme, as well.
Other activities catered for include: cookery courses, private French lessons, tennis, swimming, biking, etc.
The village is situated in unspoilt Provence, on the south side of the Luberon Mountains. The beautiful countryside surrounding the village includes fields of cherry trees, grape vines and olive orchards.
Other Activities: Cookery and art classes, French language tuition, canoeing.
