|Minimum Stay||7 nights|
Like Belfast, this 7 room home is a mix of old and new, gardens and art, fun and relaxation. It's nestled in a quiet neighborhood, 1 block from the Bay, a 10 minute walk to town, 15 min. walk to the park, pool, tennis courts, boating, fishing and more.
There are 2 separate living areas. The front of the house has a sitting room, simple office, bathroom with claw-foot tub and stairs to a bedroom, study, and bathroom with shower. The open kitchen, dining area, sun-room, is an extension on the back of the house where a set of stairs leads to a second bedroom.
Relax in the shade of plum trees or pick fresh herbs, raspberries, strawberries, and veggies if in season from the raised bed gardens. Non-smokers only. Stairways may be challenging for those with mobility issues and toddlers.
Semi-retired school teacher moved to this very special community 18 years ago to escape the fast paced work life in Massachusetts and enjoy the slower pace of Maine 'the way life should be' ( the state slogan).
Deidre Sousa purchased this farmhouse in 2001
Located in the heart of Belfast where music, dance, yoga, poetry, theater, art, great food, boating, history, farmer's market, COOP grocery, and parks share sun and moon rises on the Bay.
A half hour or less to lakes, mountains, and state parks, a little more than an hour to Acadia National Park.
The little long house provides indoor separate spaces for privacy, contemplation, light- filled dining, kitchen, sun-room combination, arches and art, levels and surprises of color that uplift the spirit. there are 2 separate sleeping areas, one in the front upstairs of the house. The other in the far back of the house, again upstairs but not connected to the front area for a feeling of separateness and privacy. Outside the flower and vegetable gardens, shaded hammock and sitting area nourish body and soul.
My husband and I came to Belfast, Maine, from Florida, for the 2014 Christmas season and it was the best of holidays.
Before we arrived in Belfast, Deidra provided us with information we requested regarding activities around the community during this time. There was an amazing array of activities - International awarding holiday choral music, in a candle lit historic church, within three blocks (not to be missed) of the rental house; New Year revelries downtown (just a 10 minute stroll away along the bay), a city bonfire by the Bay with hot chocolate for all, etc. We wish we could have done everything that was suggested.
Deidra’s home was way beyond expectation. In the middle of winter it was always warm, cheery and very comfortable. The home is situated in a quiet neighborhood and it was so restful to be there. The artistic design and decor of the home inside and out made it a pure pleasure to be there. We can’t say enough good things about our stay at 75 Bayview, Belfast, ME., or our most gracious host, Deidra. We plan to go back and highly recommend it to our friends.
From the moment we walked up the little path (paved with numerous shards of china) to the entrance, I could feel the positive energy of this darling, little cottage and its owner. It is much more charming than the photos depict. It is filled with original art, wonderful reading material, and a great selection of music CDs. We relaxed in the Zen-like garden area from which we picked tomatoes, chard, kale and fresh herbs for several of our meals and drank our coffee from hand-made cups. The little pantry was filled with a vast selection of organic spices, oils and vinegars for those of us who like to cook. We were charmed with this little house and it provided us with the relaxing serenity we were looking for. My husband and I are school teachers in our late 60's and my sister is a widow also in her late 60's and we come to Belfast every year for all of its magical charms. This was our first stay in this lovely home and I feel it was the most relaxing. There were only two negatives---the open stairway to the one bedroom is a little dicey to negotiate and the little steps between rooms can present some tripping if you don't pay attention. Otherwise, I would highly recommend this wonderful home in this fabulous town to anyone seeking relaxation and charm.
When arriving at the cottage we felt totally welcome and at home. The cottage was fantastic with tons of special touches. It was better than described. We even had a bag of fresh Maine blueberries waiting for us. The garden was beautiful and to be able to pick fresh vegetables to use for our meals was a delight. The beds were very comfortable sitting area both inside and out were great. I can't say enough about the decorating!!! Loved every minute we were there. Lots of books to read and CDs to listen to. Thank you so much for letting us use your little piece of heaven in Belfast!
Close to Penobscot Bay on a quiet street with other historic houses, this fully equipped and sparkling clean house was perfect for two creative types looking for the perfect working vacation. Two separate "wings" each with a living/dining room area provided us with enough distance to work on our respective pieces, while the gorgeous garden room and productive kitchen garden gave us a great space for our down time. We walked to the ocean, and to town every day and enjoyed the many fantastic restaurants, shops and festivals that Belfast has to offer.
My wife and I had a wonderful week in Maine at this house along with some friends visiting from New York. An easy walk to the beach or town, so you can give your car a rest. Everything was clean and well kept in the house, and I can't think of anything we were missing. A delightful vacation spot!!!
This cozy, quirky cottage anchored an excellent family vacation. The pottery, the clean but cheerful decor, and the center-of-it-all kitchen worked made us feel right at home. We used lettuce, greens and herbs from the garden, and my architect husband was enchanted with the garden "room." We were there one evening when a family of chickadees landed over our heads and carried on a huge conversation. The teens were grousing about food, as usual.
Cool breezes and a quiet neighborhood made for great sleeping. The ocean, park and town are all within easy walking distance. If you’re a foodie, don’t miss The Gothic, an excellent restaurant in a beautiful old building. If you aren’t a foodie, at least have a drink at the beautiful bar.
We explored Belfast, then nearby towns and even made it as far as Portland, where we loved the art museum. I could have stayed a month, so I’ll be back. Our 30-ish kids were just as pleased and loved having a home to explore from rather than a hotel.
The owner was very helpful with suggestions for things to do, including the do-not-miss full moon rising over the water. Magic.
