Dear Frank & Sherry,
Thank-you for making your cabin available to renters.
We had a very good time here - fishing every morning & night – using your Pontoon Boat & paddle boats & canoes & fires nightly. We loved the Loons, geese, Blue Heron & just the atmosphere of Uncle Frank’s Cabin. We also loved the location & enjoyed the nearby cities & beaches.
We shared a wonderful weekend with my parents at Uncle Frank's cottage. Our three kids, the two of us, and my parents were all very comfortable in the cabin. It has been furnished with everything you need for a relaxing and fun getaway. It's obvious the owners have put a lot of personal interest into the cabin- it's full of homey touches and fun fish-themed decor. The beds were comfortable and we had all we needed to cook in the kitchen. Outside, you couldn't ask for a more beautiful, secluded place to kick back. It was great that we were able to use the pontoon boat- my husband especially loved trying to tempt the fish while we were there. The roads around the house are not very busy and we enjoyed jogging in the mornings around the lake area and seeing the fall foliage. The fire pit was excellent and the wood provided worked great for building a nice fire for s'mores and stargazing. Really, it was a fabulous location and the owners were great to work with. We would gladly travel here again and recommend it to any friends who are thinking of traveling to the area.
Family of 5 spent 6 nights here. Very nice, clean, easy to find spot. If you are looking for someplace isolated and quiet but still 20-25 minutes from the "city" this is it. My only wish was that there were fishing poles to use.
Uncle Franks's Cabin is a great location from which to explore Northern Michigan, while relaxing at a quiet lakeside retreat. My wife and I, in our 60's, were very comfortable while we ventured into Petoskey, Cheboygan, even to Ocqueoc Falls and the sinkholes near Rogers City. The fishing is good and the pontoon boat makes it easy to hunt for the lunker bass, bluegills, and pike.
Keep in mind the cabin is on the lake with lots of wetland around it. Mosquitoes are rampant everywhere this year. I think the day the previous guests departed they left the door open while loading the car, because the cabin was filled with mosquitoes and we did not get much sleep the 1st night. The next day we bought some indoor insect spray and had no problem after that. Just come prepared for both indoors and out.
With only the 2 of us the cabin had more than enough room, was clean, nicely furnished with towels and linens, and we would return. I'd like to find the walleye in that lake!
Uncle Frank`s cabin was everything we hoped it would be. If you like to be away from the crowds, but close enough to experience everything, this is the place! We came for the week of the Fourth and when we weren`t cooking out on the grill, we ate at places like La Senioritas, Gurney`s, Mama Mias and the Pellston Grill.
The lake is great for fishing. We caught pike and bass. Frank was gracious enough to give us tips on where and how to catch them.
Sherry was great to work with through the whole process. She gladly answered all questions we had along the way. It was truly a gret experience, and we plan on coming back for the fall colors some time.
We (2 adults, 4 children ages 12, 9, 7 & 3) stayed at Uncle Frank's Cabin in the beginning of August. We rent frequently from VRBO and can say this is one of the those rare times you truly feel like you are truly staying in someone's home. The easy going, helpful and welcome nature of the owners was fantastic. The cabin itself, while certainly not luxurious, is comfortable and clean with beautiful views. The pictures on the listing do not do it justice.
We found the location to be private, while not secluded (out in the middle of nowhere). It was close to everything we wanted to do--Mackinac Island, Mackinaw City, tahquamenon falls, light houses, etc. It's within a reasonable day trip to Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes and Traverse City, but not overly close. Fishing on the lake, of course, is also a great way to spend the day.
Note: While the cabin says it can sleep 6-8, we found it to be very tight, and that is with small children. There is not a lot of privacy either. I could talk to my kids who were in the bedroom while I was in the kitchen in normal voices. The table will only fit 4 in the kitchen, although you do have another table in the front room and a picnic table outside (no great in the rain). Only one person could really be in the kitchen while cooking. The bedrooms do not fit anything, but beds and storage was pretty little. We also had to plan bathroom use a bit, as hot water did not last more than two quick showers in a row. These are small things though and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again or recommend it.
I would definitely recommend this property to a friend and am hoping to go back again for another summer vacation. We had a great time! Kids were up early hoping to catch some fish and everyone was successful. The cabin was close enough we could make some day trips to Mackinac Island, Pictured Rock, Soo Locks, etc and do sight seeing but were home in time to enjoy a campfire for the evening. Plus it was a bonus that there happened to be a meteor shower going on while we were there and this was a perfect spot to watch! Thanks for sharing your place with us.
We look forward to our 3rd year of VRBO renting at Uncle Frank's Cabin as the 2014 summer season approaches. Each year we are improving Uncle Frank's Cabin and we look forward to new and returning travelers.
