About Rathie Bartlett
I was born in Sri Lanka and went to school and lived in the UK from a very younge age. That's why I spend a lot of time in Sri Lanka and am lucky enough to spend some of the cold winter months there.
I love France and enjoy the food and the wine. I really love swimming and spend a lot of time in the sea during the very hot months. I am usually in France for at least 2 months of the year and love to come for the Voile de St Tropez which is at the end of September. It's wonderful to see so many sailing boats glide past the headland and sometimes across the bay.
Rathie Bartlett purchased this house in 1999
Why Rathie Bartlett chose Sainte-Maxime
I chose to buy this home as it's drivable from the UK and when it was holiday time with the children we could get into our car and drive across without having to book far in advance.
The house is set in the most unique area and place. It's right on the water. I always wanted to have a house on the Mediterranean as I find the Atlantic Ocean too cold to swim in even during the Summer months. From my terrace I can go swimming and snorkelling which is great, I have been swimming late in the evening or very early in the morning. You can catch your supper from the rocks if you are a good fisherman as there are plenty of beautiful fish in the water. I prefer to snorkel and see the shoals of thousands of sardines and large fish swimming about. You can almost touch them.
The Med being non tidal is very safe for even young children to swim in. There is a beach just below the terrace which can be very sandy depending if the wind has blown a little seaweed on to it. There are plenty of rock pools to explore.
Cherry Beach is a 2 minute walk and is a beautiful sandy beach which is supervised and swimming areas marked. There are many restaurants along the beach for tasty meals or sundowners. I prefer my terrace as it's quieter and the views are magical day or night.
The area around the villa offers visitors so many different attractions from having a peaceful and relaxing time to water skiing, sailing, wine tasting, restaurants, clubs, bars to sandy beaches and breath taking scenery to markets to designer shopping.
Ste Maxime is a family resort but the bright glitzy glamour of St Tropez is just across the bay.
Using my beautiful villa as a base it's possible to tailor make a holiday which will be fun for everybody in your group.
What makes this house unique
Just around the headland at Point de Sardineaux, is St Tropez with beautiful views too it from the headland. The headland makes the water look magical when large cruise ships, sailing boats and other vessels leave St. Tropez harbor and glide past this headland. This is particularly striking at night time from the terrace.
The terrace is just as enchanting at night time. There is no 'black view' as the twinkling light of Les Issambres makes it look like a twinkling wonderland.
The house is truly magical in the day time or evening. Once through the gates people do not want to leave. I have at least 3 families who return annually.
This year I have added a chiminea in the terrace fire place and it makes it very cosy to go out and collect drift wood in the day time and light the chiminea at night.
The sun rises are stunning as is the moon rise making a silver line to the heavens. There is absolutely no interruptions to the beautiful views out to sea.
The courtyard is a peaceful place with 2 large olive trees and many herbs and flowers growing and a fountain. It's lovely especially in the afternoon to relax and play cards or read a book.
The lawn is a great place to soak up the evening sun.
The villa is about a 45 minute walk to Ste Maxime along the coast road which has beautiful views across to St. Tropez. There is a pavement all the way.
There are 2 tennis clubs close by, again with beautiful views. The one in Les Issambres is flood lit.
Lovers of golf will be spoilt by the hilly but beautiful golf course in Ste Maxime. Equipment for hire and lessons are available there.
There is a water park in Set Maxime and a tree adventure course too. There is go karting, ten pin bowling, mini golf, fun fairs and many more activities on the doorstep.
During the Summer weeks there are wonderful firework displays all along the cost. The pyrotechnics are especially amazing on August 15th.

" We were delieghted with this villa. It lived up to the billing and the views were spectacular. Ideal certainly for 6 adults and two children . The villa was a home from home, classically french. We spent our days by the pool, in the sea or taking short trips to wonderful hill top villages such as Grimaud. In the evening we tried out the numerous nearby beach side restaurants or popped into St Maxime. You will not be disappointed.
The local golf at St Maxime is also very good but not cheap nor for the high handicapper. All round one of the best locations we have stayed at and we would definitely come back.
