Photos and Description of the Fort Morgan vacation house rental

Take a trip back in time; a time before high rises and congested beaches. Go back to a place where beaches of pure white sand are clean and empty. A place where you can watch the morning fog drift through the pines and a beautiful sunrise; or experience the sunset on your private pool deck just outside your back door, unobstructed by concrete behemoths. If you time it right; come to a place where you may see the sea turtles boil from their nests and crawl for the ocean. Come to Turtle Crawl on Fort Morgan Beach.

Driving South on Highway 59 into Gulf Shores; after you cross the inter-coastal waterway with the highrises looming ahead, take a turn. Turn west onto Fort Morgan Road and journey back in time; go past the Peninsula Golf Course and The Pines General Store. Further past the Kiva Resort; a mere 16.5 miles will reset the calendar and transport you to a better place where time melts away. To your right is Mobile Bay; to your left the Gulf of Mexico glistens to the horizon. Fort Morgan Beach, dotted with individual homes, unfurls its white sands for your pleasure.

Enjoy a sunset from your private pool deck or a stroll on a quiet beach. As the moon rises over the gulf; with steaks broiling on the grill, shrimp boiling in the pot and the blender cranking in the background: time truly evaporates and takes the stress of daily life with it.

If you don’t care to cook just 3 miles to the west is Tacky Jack's; great seafood and burgers for the kids. If you'd like something other than seafood, less than a mile East is great Mexican food and giant Margaritas! Formal dining at Kiva is a short drive away, as is the informal at Beach Club or Behind The Pines Restaurant and Bar. Of course you can time travel to the night life and action of Gulf Shores day or night.

About Laura + Chip

Born and raised in St. Louis, the only beaches we grew up with were the rocky shores of the small rivers of the Ozarks. We first came to the area in March of 1982; we fell in love with the sugary sands and wide open beaches. We arrived under orders to flight School for the US Navy. Our travels took us to beaches worldwide: California, Oregon, Washington, the East Coast, Hawaii, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Philippines, Australia, South Pacific, Diego Garcia, Africa, Europe, Central America, The Mideast, and Mediterranean. None compared to the soft sands of the Gulf Coast. With our four children grown, we had to come back.

Why Laura + Chip chose Fort Morgan

After retiring from the Navy we settled back in St. Louis and flew for American Airlines. The Gulf Coast called and we again answered. We quickly found that the Gulf Shores we had known was gone. A building boom had replaced the quaint down home area; we thought. Our dear old friends from flight school, and beach neighbors (two houses east) introduced us to Fort Morgan. Having grown up in the area, he knew of the well kept secret place. We were hooked!

What makes this house unique

We chose Turtle Crawl for its peacefulness and views in every direction. As owners of two small companies; one a Production company (Broken Wing) and the other a Publisher (Project 7 Alpha). We use Turtle Crawl as an escape to write and brain-storm. The daily distractions of life are swept away by the tide.

Car: necessary

Fort Morgan National Park has an 1840's Coastal Defense Fort. This fort is one in a system of the largest brick structures ever built. Incredibly preserved historical landmark. Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge-migratory birds,beach trails/hikes, nesting sea turtles; includes a trail guide, maps and info on the various protected species found. These activities are just a few miles from the house. If you choose to make a day trip, the National Naval Aviation Museum, a part of the Smithsonian Institute, is a must-see in Pensacola, Fl. You may be lucky enough to see the Navy's Blue Angels aerial demonstration team practicing their flying routine. Look closely and you will see the owners name in the museum's Cubi O'Club, on a couple of plaques.

great time during our Spring Break

The home was very clean and the owner was very responsive in answering any questions or concerns. I was even able to call the owner and send text messages when I needed something answered.

With 3 children all under the age of 10, there was plenty of space inside to spread out and relax especially between our trips to the beach.

We really enjoyed out time there.

Dear Laura and Chip: We really enjoyed your place and a chance to experience the Gulf Shores. It had been several decades since I had been in Alabama, where Ann was born, so it was great to spend a week there. You have a nice beach home that has all the amenities one needs. We also enjoyed a chance to visit Dauphin Island and see the aquarium there. One of our former students is on the staff.

Thanks for all you do for HSU (Humboldt State University) and its athletics programs. I hope all is well with you and you get a chance to enjoy your beach house too. All the best, Rollin

We really enjoyed our time at Turtle Crawl. The grandchildren had a great time on the uncrowded beach, and got to see dolphins and pelicans really closely. Didn't see turtles, but a number of crabs in varying sizes. The house was immaculate and very well stocked. As a bonus, we got to enjoy the prep and execution of a beautiful beach wedding at the house directly across from us, including fireworks. All in all, a relaxing and comfortable vacation!

Perfection Paradise

This oasis was exactly as it was described only better. Anything needed for a fun and relaxing time was right at our fingertips. The view from the deck is fantastic. We spent the most time just sitting out on that deck laughing and talking while waiting on Tropical Storm Debbie to move on. Would love to return, anytime.
