Renovated in 2013, this direct waterfront house in the residential Saugatuck Shores section of Westport, Connecticut, offers panoramic views of Long Island Sound, a master bedroom suite overlooking the water, a private patio surrounded by beautiful flowers, a new country front porch and a new 2nd floor deck facing the water. It's fully furnished, tastefully decorated, has 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, new oak floors, new stainless kitchen appliances, new washer, dryer, new upgraded electrical system, cable TVs, DVD and high-speed wireless Internet access. It's 65 minutes to New York City by car or train and a few minutes to I-95, the train station, fine restaurants, shopping and many recreational, cultural and entertainment amenities, including art exhibits, seasonal concerts and the famous Westport Playhouse.
You can swim, sail or fish right in front of the house. There are a few very small private beaches within walking distance. Two, large public beaches, with full facilities, are 10 and 15 minutes away. The house is located in Saugatuck Shores, which is almost entirely surrounded by water and is ideal for sailing, walking and biking. You can rent a boat or kayak at Longshore Marina and beach it in front of the house. Or, relax on the front porch or upper deck and watch a procession of colorful boats pass by the house. Kids love to walk along the beach and collect shells, stones and sea creatures.
The owners, Michael and Joan, are a semi-retired couple, that have lived in nearby New Canaan, CT for the past 35 years. They take a personal interest in seeing that their guests are comfortable and enjoy their stay.
Mike and Joan Di Scipio purchased this house in 2007
Spectacular views of the water.
Clean, fresh house with bright rooms.
Westport is a great vacation town with a lot to offer. Great shopping, fine restaurants, art exhibits, summer concerts and many entertainment, cultural and historical attractions.
Nice neighbors. private, peaceful setting.
Ideal for a getaway, or a young couple with children looking for a variety of family activities, or seniors looking for a relaxing vacation.
The house is located directly on Long Island Sound in the heart of the Gold Coast region of Southwestern Connecticut, minutes from the many conveniences and attractions of downtown Westport and only 65 minutes by car or train from mid-town New York City.
The upper deck and front porch offer 180 degree unobstructed views of the water.
We spent 3 weeks in this lovely house and we absolutely loved it. First of all, the location right on the water is great. The neighborhood is great for walking and running. We traveled as a family with 2 small children. The house itself was in perfect condition. All appliances worked perfectly and everything was well organized. We loved the small fenced in patio, it was perfect for our boys. The views from the house are spectacular. Mike and Joan were always available and eager to please.
Westport is a great town with lots of restaurants and cultural activities. The closeness to NYC is another plus.
An excellent house to rent. Very clean and comfortable. Our landlord was very accommodating to our needs. The house is very well maintained, and the neighborhood is lovely to walk in or ride bikes. The location is very convenient to the train station, I 95, and downtown Westport. The Post Road is also conveniently located with excellent shopping for all of your needs.
WONDERFUL VACATION RENTAL
Water views overlooking the Long Island Sound in CT...This is a perfect rental for long or short term. Convenient, Clean, newly re-done. The description accurately describes the home. Our family of 5 thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this waterside home last summer. It is immaculate and has everything needed for a comfortable stay. The owners were very accommodating and kind and wanted everything to be perfect for us. Having coffee on the balcony every morning or enjoying the sunset became our ritual as we enjoyed the passing boats and beautiful views. The flower gardens are very pretty and well-maintained. We walked and jogged around the neighborhood and strolled around the block to a small, peaceful beach which we often had all to ourselves. We launched our kayak right across the street from the house. The train station is about a mile away, which was important as a few of us commuted (about an hour) to New York. There is close and easy access to I-95 and convenient to the Merritt Parkway. The town offers many wonderful activities, including outdoor concerts, art exhibits, swimming pool, tennis, golf, sailing, swimming and suntanning at Compo Beach--which requires a day pass or guest fee for access. Main Street has upscale shopping, restaurants and a pretty walkway near the Saugatuck River.
This was our first experience renting on line and to be honest both my husband and I were nervous. However, Mike and Joan were wonderful to work with! We had multiple communications prior to our date of arrival and they alleviated all of our concerns. The house itself was perfect for us! It was spotless, and everything in it is updated and works! The kitchen is complete with everything we needed, and more (my daughter wanted to make cookies but we ran out of time). The view is absolutely beautiful!! We enjoyed it from both the upper deck (my favorite!) and the lower porch. It did get hot, but the window air conditioners worked great - we had no complaints!
As a bonus, the neighbors were friendly and fun to chat with.
Thank you Mike and Joan - we had an amazing time!!
We had a wonderful time at this beach side home this summer. Our family rented the house for two weeks in June and we couldn't have been happier. We have a one year old and the house was very child-friendly. With it's 3 bedroom and 2 full bath set-up, we were able to have our parents stay with us for a weekend and we comfortably fit 6 adults in the house. We went on walks everyday by the water and enjoyed the peacefulness of the neighborhood. Mike and Joan were very accommodating and did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable. The view from the house was spectacular! We enjoyed watching the boats sail in and out of the harbor each day. We spent a lot of time on the second floor sun porch admiring the view. My husband enjoyed playing golf at the nearby Longshore Golf Club (open to the public) and we could walk to the beach in the neighborhood or drive to the public beach in Westport - both were wonderful spots! We highly recommend this house to anyone looking for a vacation home. When our time at this house was up, we kept wishing that we had rented the house for a longer stay! We hope to be back next summer!
House was exactly as advertised. The owner was relaxed about our use of the house and extremely up front and organized about any visits he may need to make and any unaddressed problems that there might be with the place (ie - missing BBQ utensils and coathangers which were replaced the next morning). It had also been cleaned top to bottom just before our arrival.
All the basic living needs were covered and I don't watch TV, so the undersized sets were no problem. The real attraction is the wonderful breakfast area on the upper floor which holds 6 people for breakfast easily. Looking over the water and watching the boating take place was the most stress releiving experience I've had in a long time.
One warning I would have is that there is an air conditioner in every room, and if it's very hot they would be essential (although most of the time there was a cool breeze). Because the rooms are small the sound of the conditioner can make it very difficult to sleep.
All in all this was exactly what I was after and would definitly stay again.
Definitely bring your own router/airport if you have one. There is only a wired connection.
Short distance to a reasonably priced water park (sailboats, kayaks, catamarans), however on the day we wanted to go it was too windy and the trip was aborted.
The golf clubs in the immediate area were either residents only (via a special permit) or expensive.
Saugatuck Shores is ideal for sailing, walking and biking. You can swim, sail or fish right in front of the house. Rent a boat or kayak and 'beach' it near the house. Sit on the front porch or upstairs deck and watch a procession of colorful boats of all sizes pass by the house. Children love to walk along the beach and collect shells, stones and sea creatures.
Westport offers many cultural, entertainment and recreational attractions, including fine restaurants, trendy stores, art shows, seasonal concerts, antiques, beautiful scenery, historic landmarks and the famous Westport Playhouse. The public-access Longshore Country Club has golf, tennis, sail boating, kayaking, sailing school and a popular restaurant. Nearby Compo Beach is family-oriented and offers a long sandy beach, modern pavilion, dressing rooms, showers, new playground, food service, picnic area, basketball and volleyball.
The Westport Playhouse is known for its live broadway performances and celebrities.
The house is 65 minutes by train or car to mid-town Manhattan. It's about a mile to the Westport train station, which has ample parking.
