The 'Low Country' of South Carolina is an area of outstanding natural beauty and abundant wildlife. It has featured in many movies such as 'The Prince of Tides' , 'Forrest Gump' and 'Glory'. Hilton Head Island has strict regulations aimed at preserving the beautiful natural surroundings and protecting the abundant wildlife. Hilton Head Plantation has even stricter regulations covering everything from architectural design (the homes must blend with their surroundings) to private garden maintenance and even has its own security force. The litter fine is $1,000! You will not see any of the poorly regulated development common in some other parts of the US. and Europe. As well as exploring the immediate area, interesting side trips can be made to historic Bluffton, Beaufort, Savannah and Charleston.

Hilton Head Island has a sub tropical climate with average high temperatures ranging in degrees Farenheit from 58 in January, 74 in April to 88 in July, (14.5, 23 and 31 in degrees Centigrade). It is at about the same latitude as San Diego USA, Casablanca Morocco, or Israel. But is washed by the Gulf Stream and is very much more lush, being mostly covered in Southern Evergreen Oak dripping with Spanish Moss, Scots Pine and Gum trees. There are hundreds of lakes and lagoons. The tidal creeks and estuaries have reeds and wetlands, whooping cranes and other wading birds and the famous shrimp boats still ply their trade. The Island has 12 miles of wide family oriented Atlantic Ocean facing beaches on which you can swim, sunbathe, dolphin watch surf, horse ride, bike ride etc. You can sail or kayak in the protected waters of the estuaries or Inter Coastal. The Island has around 2 million visitors a year and caters for virtually every resort activity from Bridge to Body surfing.

The nearest major airport is Savannah less than an hours drive away, or Charleston 2 hours drive away.

Hilton Head has its own small airport 15 minutes from our house, with frequent shuttle flights from Savannah, Charlotte and Altanta.

European guests usually fly to Hilton Head via Charlotte with US Airways or to Savannah via Atlanta with Delta. There are frequent flights all year round.

AMAZING VACATION!

  • 5 of 5
Loved the house and the gated community. You really didn't need to leave, it was all there. Bike trails, swimming, tennis, golf, basketball court and playground, plus my favorite the private beach! It was a great vacation and the home owner makes the transaction a breeze. Hope to stay there again sometime!

Everything was exactly as seen on the site. It was clean and inviting. We loved riding the bikes and exploring the property! The closest beach was good for walking. Folley Field beach was nice for swimming and lounging. I would definitely recommend this property to others!

We just returned from a wonderful vacation at this property. Working with the owners was easy. The house is clean, modern, and well furnished which made the vacation comfortable. We rode the bikes most days and its a short ride to the beach. The beach is relaxing and we enjoyed fishing. The was our third trip to HH and this by far was the better trip. If you are looking for a peaceful and comfortable vacation with plenty to do in HH than you can't go wrong here.

We could not believe how well equipped this holiday home was! It was clear that the owners have made it their home away from home and everything that we could possibly have needed was there for us! We can highly recommend the property and may very well be back ourselves!

A GEM OF A VACATION ON HILTON HEAD PLANTATION

  • 5 of 5
Imagine the delight of two snowbirds arriving from an icy Toronto only to discover a garden full of azalea bushes blooming in hues of red, rose and pink! What a lovely spot and comfortable home it is with attractive decor, lots of natural light and space, comfortable furnishings, gleaming hardwood floors, beautifully equipped gourmet kitchen etc---one could go on and on. Great care and considerable thought on the part of the owners have gone into the planning of every aspect of the house for the complete comfort of their guests.
Begin your exploration of the island by visiting the Honey Horne Plantation Coastal Discovery Museum. Its exhibits, self-guided trails and boardwalks are an excellent way to learn about the area and its local history.
There are so many activities offered on Hilton Head from kayaking,to boat trips(dolphin watching, fishing, sunset cruises, eco tours etc.)
We particularly enjoyed beach walks, exploring bicycle paths and nature trails (Whooping Crane Conservancy) or simply lounging on the upper deck or lower patio areas of this attractive home.
There is great shopping to be found everywhere on the island and there are restaurants too numerous to mention but one can find everying close by in the local Main Street village just outside of the plantation. There is a guest "house book" plus many information maps, guides and restaurant menus. All of these we found to be very useful when planning day or evening adventures.
We enjoyed excursions to Blufton and Beaufort as well as spending a few days in Savannah and Charleston. All worth doing.
We found the owners to be very helpful and communicative .(via e-mail).There is also a book at the house containing very useful information on how things work e.g appliances which we consulted on several occasions. As we stayed for two months, having the wireless hook-up was very much appreciated.
A wonderful house and a wonderful vacation on Hilton Head.Certainly we would return and do not hesitate in recommending it to others.

Other Activities: Dolphin watching. Kayaking. Wildlife conservancies & nature trails.

Golf: Hilton Head Island is possibly best known for its 20 odd golf courses and it is undeniably a golfers paradise. Too much to mention here. There are 4 courses in Hilton Head Plantation.
