About Paul Carroll

I harboured an ambition to own a property in Italy for many years and finally made my dream come true in 2006. As a family, we love spending time at Paradiso, and have learned much about the area and history of this part of Italy over recent years. I'm now trying to learn to speak Italian, and can order drinks and meals with ease - do I need to learn anything else?

Paul Carroll purchased this villa in 2006

Why Paul Carroll chose Coreglia Antelminelli

I looked at many properties to buy in the Tuscany area, but I knew I'd found my ideal as soon as I saw Paradiso. The beautiful gardens, amazing views and outstanding decor of the property made me buy it on the spot. Me, my partner and nine year old daughter spend as many weeks as we can at Paradiso each year - it's a true home from home for us, and we hope guests think the same too. The local village of Coreglia is a 10 minute walk, and we love to go there to pick up bread each morning, have a coffee (as well as going to the local bar for an aperitivo most evenings!). In the mountains you really are on top of the world, yet can still be in Barga (20 mins), or Lucca (35 mins) quickly. We can't think of anyone - family, friends, guests - who've not been bowled over by their visit to Paradiso.

What makes this villa unique

I doubt very few villas will offer the mountain views, extensive gardens, and clean air that come with Paradiso. This is an outstanding part of Tuscany - not crammed with tourists like Chiantishire, but providing a cornucopia of things to do from medieval festivals, sightseeing and food and music celebrations. There are fantastic restaurants serving outstanding food and drink, and overall prices are certainly lower than the more heavily populated tourist strongholds. You can have all of this and still be in Pisa (60 minutes) or Florence (90 minutes) or the coast (60 minutes) if you want to be. Many guests don't go much further than the villa, garden, pool and Coreglia though! Guests also love having an English speaking housekeeper close by!

Outstanding villa in an outstanding location

  • 5 of 5

All the website promised and more from a magnificent setting with fantastic views to great meals out. The villa was absolutely beautiful, the view from the large balcony was breathtaking, a perfect spot to enjoy a glass or two of prosecco while planning our next day. Plenty of interesting places to see and in process of booking another visit this summer with friends.

Beautiful house, a peaceful haven of tranquility

  • 5 of 5

It’s easy to see why this gorgeous villa is named Paradiso. We stayed there as a family of five in May 2014 and had a fantastic time. The house is beautifully furnished in traditional Tuscan style with all mod cons and has amazing views over the mountains. The gardens are just something else – while away a couple of hours wandering around them – and then take a cooling dip in the pool (this is also heated so still warm enough to take a swim in the earlier/later months of the year). A true gem and an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding area, including the beautiful walled town of Lucca. We were very sad to leave this peaceful haven and hope to return soon!

A taste of paradise

  • 5 of 5

A perfect week in a gorgeous villa with absolutely stunning surroundings. The villa itself has a spacious kitchen and dining area, and five star bedrooms & bathrooms. The grounds are impeccable and the pool is just perfect with the breathtaking views. The local village is a short walk away. A visit to Bar Roma is a must! A wonderful holiday in a picturesque Tuscan village. We will certainly be returning in the near future.

Disappointed Visit

  • 1 of 5

Although the home and surrounding area were gorgeous, our stay was cut short due to mold issues in the buildings. We were not aware that Paradiso was subterranean, and that subsequently the underground back rooms had mold growing within and up the walls. Three out of the six of us had asthma, and the mold posed to high of a risk to stay there. When we discussed this with Paul, he was unwilling to work with us to refund our money for the two weeks we would not be staying in his place. He offered to have a local representative come and bleach out the walls (while we were staying there), but she warned us the bleach would be as bad if not worse than the mold. We opted to loose out on our two weeks fee for the villa, and move on for health reasons. We were very disappointed in Paul's lack of compromise with us, or even offering to refund us for part of the stay.

I want to warn anyone with asthma, this beautiful villa is not great for a stay if you have asthma.

Owner's Response: This is the first negative review of Paradiso we've received in 7 years, and totally contrary to every other guests' response over that period. There was a small mould patch in one of the bedrooms when these guests arrived, which we undertook to resolve immediately. Despite this, and the client's acknowledgement that 'the home and surrounding area were gorgeous', the client nevertheless moved out of the property on the second day of their stay and then requested a full refund for the two week booking. Paradiso is hardly a threat to one's health, asthmatic or not, and, for the record, it isn't subterranean (the bedroom affected does have two earth sided walls, but the rest of the property doesn't). The mould patch was dealt with, and certainly isn't an issue; nor does mould constitute a future problem. I do know that this particular client was under the erroneous impression that the property was air-conditioned when she arrived, and initially claimed that it was advertised as such. It was very hot when they arrived, and I suspect that the desire to move to a hotel with aircon was possibly a greater motivational factor in deciding to move so precipitously. In my communications with this client I did point out how disappointed we were with what we considered an over-reactionary response and to be honest, we're even more disappointed, six months later, to have to post a reply to this most atypical review.

Excellent

Highly recommended. The area is amazing and the people from Coreglia and the villages around, friendly and helpful. The house, the gardens, the views and the pool are astounding. The renter and housekeeper have thought of everything to make the stay at Paradiso a pleasant one. I would have stay there for a month, it is difficult to image a more pleasant place.
