We rent from VRBO anytime we vacation within driving distance of our home. We'd read about the Virginia Creeper Trail and decided we wanted to try it. We rented this cabin based upon the comments about it's proximity to the trail. Our GPS lead us right to the address, yet we felt we had the mountain to ourselves. The interior of the cabin is just as you see in the photos. But, they are the only VRBO owners to provide everything except the food, including: toilet paper, paper towels, coffee beans, coffee grinder, liquid soap, dishwashing detergent--and even a footstool in the kitchen for shorties like me who need to reach something on the second shelf of the cabinets! We loved sitting in front of the fireplace watching TV. The towels and washcloths were the plushest in any cabin I ever rented. The beds were extremely comfortable. The kitchen ware was nice; In some places we've rented the cookware was all beat up. On our first evening, 3 deer nibbled on grass in the front. The mountain stream was peaceful and relaxing. It was pretty cold and windy when we were there, or else we would have spent our evenings in front of the fire pit, listening to the mountain stream. Finally, the people in this area were some of the friendliest folks I have ever met! We want to come back next summer and do the trail again, and we hope to stay here.
We had a wonderful stay! The cabin was very clean! Fresh flowers and cookies to boot! Close to "Creeper trail", Grayson Highlands", Whitetop. Loved watching the lighting bugs in the field. We will be back!
We had a wonderful week staying in your cabin. The cabin is loaded with amenities, incl. nice kitchen for cooking, washer/dryer, great porches with rocking chairs for relaxing while overlooking the creek, nice firepit with chairs for campfire, good size property for dog to run and get exercise, and great reception with Satellite T.V. and Wifi. We had wonderful hikes on the Appalachian Trail with a few of the trail heads located only a few miles from the cabin. Also, hiking in Grayson Highlands State Park was special due seeing the wild ponies and some with their new foals. Biking down the Virginia Creeper Trail was great fun. Rent the bikes in Whitetop as you are close to the starting point at the top of the mountain and can get the shuttle from Damascus back up to your car and this is fairly close to the cabin. Brad & Jackie were great, making sure we arrived OK and had everything we needed. Thank you for the welcome wine and homemade cookies! Also, I lost my trusty pedometer and Brad was able to locate it and mail it back to me. Much appreciated!! We will be back!!! Thanks again!
First let me say the owners are absolutely wonderful. We got lost due to the GPS not being quite on target. We ended up at their grocery store, and they were such a pleasure to meet. There were cookies awaiting us on our arrival. All their contact information was right by the phone. They even called a local business to help track down our son's lost jacket.
We awoke the next 2 mornings to deer roaming the front yard. The fireplace was great when coming in from biking. And we enjoyed a nice campfire on our last night there.
We plan to make this biking trip a regular event, and plan to stay here each time. Better pricing than hotels, close enough to Damamscus as well as the trail head to be convenient, yet still remain somewhat secluded.
Creeper Trail biking 34 mile bike trail, 17 miles down hill, with shuttle service back to the top. Whitetop Laurel trout fishing some of the best trout fishing in all of the Eastern US. A.T. trail and many other trail heads in the area to hike. Some of the best hunting you can ever find. Grayson Highlands state park and Mount Rogers the highest point in Virginia, with the wild ponies.
