Overview

Oban, Isle of Mull & Lorn Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Peace and quiet with magnificent views

This beautiful old Scottish Baronial Estate is less than two hours scenic drive North West of Glasgow and sits in thousands of acres of glorious landscape. The Estate enjoys its own fishing Loch with islands and the remains of an 11th century castle. Ben Cruachan, one of the Scottish Munros, provides the backdrop often reflected in Loch Tromlee creating a breathtaking view as you drive up the Estate's track to the three properties.

The Cottage and two Lodges lie within the grounds of the Main House (property 1148035) but enjoy their own privacy.

The Lodges are tucked away overlooking the orchard and fields in their immediate vicinity. The original Lodge 'Orchard View' was built in 2004 and in 2011 we refurbished and extended the existing Lodge to create 'Field View', an additional holiday accommodation with a further two bedrooms. In 2011/2012 we refurbished the original Lodge to create Field View create felxible accommodation by linking the two Lodges through and interlinking but lockable door. Now we can offer comfortable accommodation for two (Small Lodge), four (Medium Lodge) or six people (Large Lodge) enjoying business speed internet and beautiful views of the Estate.

The Cottage on the other hand is our 'all on one level' accommodation and comprises of one double bedroom and an open plan living space with a sofa bed and multi-fuel stove.

A holiday on our Estate is ideal for active couples and families, who enjoy a spot of bird watching, walking, hiking and generally taking time out from the hustle and bustle of city life. Despite its remote feel, civilisation is not far away with Taynuilt being 8miles away and the busy seaside town of Oban being only 40minutes drive away.

Fire Wood is available from us directly but as it does take us a lot of time and effort to provide wood on site we do ask for £10 per large bag. Alternatively coal and logs can be purchase at any of the local supermarkets and garages.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable stay! Many thanks for the warm welcome - he hope to be back in the not too distant future. The scenery and Loch are fantastic - you feel like you are alone in the world! Macy (our dog) especially enjoyed swimming.

Something special

We highly recommend this cottage. It is something special away from all. After a short time we felt relaxed and peaceful. The cottage was clean, nicely furnished and the views are beautiful.

Hidden Gem in picturesque setting

  • 5 of 5
We were in the area for a wedding for the weekend and we thoroughy enjoyed the cottage we stayed in. Niall and Johanna were both great hosts and made our stay very enjoyable. Very tucked away on an estate of around 1,000 acres, with the sheep and highland cows about, we were not ready to make our way back to London. Niall was also nice enough to drop us off to the wedding at a nearby hotel as well! Much enjoyed and would definitely visit again and very much recommended!

Due to its closeness to Oban, the 'Gateway to the Isles' and 'Seafood Capital of Scotland', there is plenty to do at Ballimore.

On the Estate you can cycle, walk, fish and explore the ruins of a small MacCorquodale castle which belonged to the family who inhabited the estate in the 11th century.

There are also plenty of other ventures to undertake...

Day trips to the Islands: Mull, Coll, Tiree, Barra, South Uist, Colonsay, Lismore and Islay, boat trips on Loch Etive, fishing at Loch Awe, wildlife photography with 'Loch Visions', cycling and mountain biking, diving, sea kayaking, hillwalking, ceilidh dancing or visits to Bonawe iron furnace in Taynuilt, Oban Distillery, Inverary Jail or the Cruachan power station. As it is a very historical area there are many castles to explore and beautiful or gardens to discover.

The nearest pub is only 3 miles from the house in Kilchrenan and those seeking restaurants, shops and nightlife will find a nice variety in Oban.

Other Activities: Whisky trail
