The 'Old House' is set in the end of an old Lefkadian settlement called 'Pigadisani' near the lace-making village of Karya.The most incredible panoramic views can be experienced from the large veranda with the mulberry tree. 'Old House' dates back to 1870 & has undergone a very sensitive restoration, that makes the most of the weathered old stone fabric of the building, its simple village architecture, & its setting.This particularly beautiful house has a wonderfully evocative atmosphere due to the sensitive conversion by its architect owners.

Additional information about rental rates

  • Prices per week in euros. Prices include all taxes, cleaning twice a week (changeover day included), pool cleaning, electricity & air conditioning. Minimum stay one week. 2 weeks or long winter lets see for special prices. Sofa bed has an additional charge. Bookings are Sunday or Saturday to Sunday or Saturday. The villa is available from 2 p.m. on the day of arrival. Guests are requested to vacate the villa not later than 10am on the day of departure. We recommend that you e-mail us first to check on availability. Bookings are confirmed with a 30 % deposit (refundable till March 30th 2010 for bookings made until February 28Th). Deposits for bookings after March 1st 2010 will not be refundable.
  • The above rental rates are only for the OLD HOUSE (capacity 6 people).
    Up to 8 people or for 4 people only (certain periods) please ask for prices.

Lovely villa

I loved the interior of this villa. Its more spacious than the photos suggest and it has a very nice feel to it. The maid came twice and the pool got a clean during the week. The owner was a delight to deal with - very helpful, and the villa is well equipped. We bought food in Karya and stocked up again in Nidri. As we holidayed in August it was a relief to be in the cooler air of Pigadissani but the downside is lots of driving round narrow steep roads with hairpin bends to get to the beach. If you're ok with that I would really recommend the peace and quiet here. Its bliss to come back to after a hot day. (Although there are a couple of mad hours after dark when the local dogs start up). Try not to arrive in the dark as we did: The church you have to watch out for is high up on the right barely visible behind a wall and the sign pointing to the villa is in dark blue. Also the dirt track we had to watch out for had been tarmaced. We like Kathsima beach best but not the taverna there - expensive and awful food. We had a couple of barbeques on the wood burning stove at the side of the house - Its lovely eating out on the terrace. The best excursion we had was hiring out a little boat and visiting different beaches. Thats a lot of fun.

Seriously relaxing, elegant simplicity

We had very high expectations of the Old House because of the lovely photos - and the house more than lived up to them, full of charm, comfortable, clean and well equipped, with plenty of space for sprawling teenagers. Peaceful without being isolated - the next-door neighbour kept us well supplied with cucumbers and wine produced from his garden. The terrace, shaded by olive trees, was a lovely place to escape the sun or watch the moon rise over the hills - breathtaking. It was hard to drag ourselves away, but the beaches really are spectacular - Kathisma and Nikitas are about 20 minutes away and are great for swimming out to rocky outcrops to jump off. You might need swim shoes, though, as most are pebbly rather than sandy - but what gorgeous, blond, round pebbles! We liked the beach at Nidri for being towed on rubber rings behind a speedboat. And Aramis stables, just outside Lefkas Town on the right as you start to climb the hill to Karya, has lovely, well-cared-for horses. We rode in the evenings either through the olive groves or along the beach.
As far as the practicalities, the house was cleaned twice a week, and the owners couldn't have been more friendly and helpful, with tips about which of the dozens of beach tavernas have the freshest fish. The airconditioning wasn't needed most of the time, but we did try it out and it's very efficient and quiet.
I don't often "gush", but we all loved this place, and the island. The welcome we received reminded me of Greece 40 years ago, and I can't wait to go back....
