Ayr is an attractive small historic town with an excellent selection of restaurants and shops in walking distance. It has a theatre,cinemas,bowling alley,putting green and children's play area. Burns cottage is only 3 miles away where the Tam O'Shanter experience will teach you about the famous Scottish poet. Glasgow with all its attractions is easily reached by train or car in under an hour and Edinburgh and Stirling are reached in under 2 hours and so Ayr is an excellent base for touring. The isle of Arran is a short ferry trip from Ardrossan and is a base for golfing,cycling and walking. Ayrshire is renowned for golf with more than 30 courses in the area, the first open having been played at Prestwick. Ayr racecourse has a full season with the Scottish national being held here every year. Loudoun Castle Theme Park has rides to suit all ages and a visit to Culzean castle is a must for those interested in history or just wish to visit the beautiful grounds.
