Photos and Description of the St Ives vacation cottage rental
Sleeps 5, in three large bedrooms, steps away from shops, beach and harbour

A classic 110 year old former fisherman's cottage, with sea views, situated in the conservation 'Downalong' area of St Ives, on a pedestrian only quaint cobbled street, just off the most photographed street in this gem of a Cornish town. The cottage is tucked away in a quiet lane behind the main area for shops/restaurants and harbour front, therefore no steep hills to climb, common in St Ives! The location is just perfect. The cottage has been totally refurbished over the years and offers accommodation over 4 floors, walking into the large lounge/diner with two fireplaces and a beamed ceiling, steps down to the large kitchen/breakfast room with beamed ceiling and toilet off, and outside covered courtyard with drying area, steps up from the dining room to two large bedrooms again with beams, one double, and one set up as a large single that has sea views, bathroom with shower, up to a large attic room with twin beds and far reaching views over St Ives Bay. A quirky, quaint but modern cottage, typical St Ives.

PARKING

As with most of the cottages/houses in the lower central part of the town, there is no parking, however, there is a long stay (weekly) car park behind Porthgwidden beach on 'the island' and I would say, anywhere that has parking will generally be at the top of the town, and a steep climb, or on the outer reaches, so it's a bit of a trade off. Personally, I would much rather be down in the harbour area with all the restaurants and beaches minutes away! The car park is also a few minutes walk away.

The cottage is larger than average for St Ives, and could accommodate more people but I have chosen to keep numbers to a sensible level so everyone has their own space, however, it is suitable for couples, up to the larger family, as it has a warm and cosy feel despite the extra space.

KITCHEN

Lower ground floor. Kitchen/breakfast room with open beamed ceiling, quarry tiled floor, Bosch electric fan oven and grill, electric hob, microwave, flat screen LCD TV with Free view and integral DVD player, fridge, new Bosch water saving dishwasher and washing machine, table and chairs currently set up for four, for childrens meals or snacks, a sturdy wooden baby high chair, separate WC and back door to covered courtyard area for hanging washing and storing boards etc, wheelie bin and back alley leading down to Fore Street, and all the best shops and restaurants, perfect!

GROUND FLOOR: Main entrance from pedestrian only quaint cobbled lane in to small porch area, steps up to large lounge/dining room with open beamed ceiling and real leather chocolate and cream sofa and chairs, real flame/coal enclosed gas fire,32' Panasonic flat screen LCD TV with Freeview, DVD, Micro Hi Fi system with DAB radio, CD and Ipod dock, small library of books, second cast iron Victorian fireplace in dining room (not in use), second dining table for 5 people.

FIRST FLOOR AND ATTIC ROOM: Main bedroom with cast iron and brass double bed and beamed ceiling, Main bathroom with cast iron bath and shower over, a large single bedroom with pretty cast iron bed, tongue and groove colour washed and beamed ceiling and halogen spots and sea views over roof tops across the bay, steep stairs to a large attic bedroom with colour washed ceilings and halogen spots and two cream metal single beds, wide ranging views across St Ives bay and beyond.

All of the above rooms are tastefully decorated and have original art work hanging on the walls.

About Mrs Debbie Elliott

I have had a love affair with St Ives ever since my children were young, now they are grown up with children of their own! I live in Hampshire but Cornwall is my second home. We have 3 whippet dogs who love nothing better than to run and explore as soon as they get down to Cornwall. I grew up with a father in the RAF, so we were always on the move, so a home is very important, whether it be here in Hampshire, or in St Ives.

Mrs Debbie Elliott purchased this cottage in 1997
Why Mrs Debbie Elliott chose St Ives

St Ives holds a special place in our family. So when camping up on the top of the hill when the children were in their teens, house hunting was a must! Finding the cottage was like coming home, it had such a wonderful feel. Over the years the cottage has been refurbished, and loved. I hope you have the same sense of place on entering!

What makes this cottage unique

The most convenient, safe, traffic free location, in a quiet spot away from the main shopping street but just a few steps away, so you can pop out for the morning paper, a cake for tea, an urgent pint of milk, and to the pubs and restaurants in the blink of an eye! The harbour is so close, and the famous surfing beach of Porthmeor, and the Tate gallery are a short 5 minute stroll away.

Stunning and homely!

Have just spent New Year week at salmon's Leap with my partner and 11 year old daughter and all I can say is wow! The cottage is beautiful and the attention to detail is amazing. Location is perfect: you are right in the heart of St Ives but tucked away so are not disturbed by noise ( even on New Years Eve).
Your every need is catered for at Salmon's Leap, it is modern yet doesn't lose the feel of being a tradional Fisherman's cottage. It is incredibly well equipped and very warm and cosy. We have already booked for next New Year!! (Sadly, our summer week is already booked up so we will be slumming it elsewhere!). Many thanks to Debbie for a wonderful week and to Helen for ensuring the cottage was spotless and giving us a warm welcome.

Well Kept Cottage - Great Location

5 of 5
Submitted: May 15, 2013 Stayed: April 2013
We have stayed at a number of self-catering establishments over the past few years, and as some have been better than others we spend time researching to ensure that a property is likely to be of a good standard. Salmons Leap, we are pleased to say, met our expectations - it is clear that the owner takes considerable care and pride in the cottage, and standards of cleanliness etc are high.

The location is particularly good, being tucked away from the busier streets of St Ives, yet only yards from pubs, restaurants, and beaches.

We chose to leave the car at home, and travel by train. Despite the limitations on how much can practically be carried, this was a good move. It meant that we could enjoy the views on the journey, and quite honestly St Ives wasn't really designed for cars! The station is around half a mile or so from the property and for the easiest walk you need to double back on yourself when leaving the station to drop down steps to a small road below. Although we did walk from the station with our luggage, taxis were available.

A good week, blessed with fine weather, and as there is a good deal that we didn't get to do it is most likely that we will be planning a future visit.
Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind comments, and yes, the train is a good option if there are only two, maybe three of you, and much more relaxing!
I would love you to make a return visit very soon.

Perfect: highly recommended

Our experience of staying at Salmon's Leap and renting through it's lovely owner, Debbie, could not have been better.

The cottage is perfect. It is exactly as it's described and pictured on the website, but what is really exceptional is the generosity and warmth with which the owner has furnished and equipped the house. The original artwork, well-equipped kitchen and comfortable beds all added to the lovely week we spent in St Ives.

As well as being comfortable the space was very practical. Of particular note is the back door entrance and covered drying area that were extremely useful when returning from the beach with children.

The accommodation suited us perfectly. We were a party of five and my two boys loved their attic bedroom, Granny and Grandpa were very comfortable and I had a view of the harbour so everyone was happy.

We enjoyed the central location and, having travelled by train, it was great to be car-less and be able to explore the beaches, coastal footpaths, shops, restaurants and galleries that St Ives has to offer. The streets were crowded in the middle of the day but it was great to be able to wander out first thing in the morning for newspapers and croissants before the crowds arrived. We would very much like to return again, perhaps out of season.

The owner was extremely well-organised, helpful and non-intrusive. The property is very well maintained and was exceptionally clean when we arrived.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property to anyone. I certainly hope to be back!
Owner's Response: Thank you Jenny and family for posting your very kind words about my much loved hide away in St Ives. I would love to be able to welcome you back very soon. Thank you again. Debbie.

Fantastic Cottage!

5 of 5
Submitted: July 24, 2012 Stayed: July 2012
My husband, children (aged 15, 12 and 12) and myself have just returned from a weeks holiday in this wonderful cottage. Salmons Leap is equipped with everything you could possible need. The description of the cottage is accurate. This spacious accommodation has a large kitchen with a tv and seating. We ate at the cottage quite a lot and the kitchen is the most well equipped we have stayed in. The cottage has 3 bedrooms, a double, a twin and a single. The twin and single bedrooms have wonderful views over the Harbour.

The location of Salmons Leap could not be more ideal, you are 20 yards from Fore Street which is the main shopping street in St Ives, just round the corner you have two bakeries, my favourite being "St Ives Bakery" which make the best pasties! My children often when out for a walk on their own which being so close to the shops they were able to do. You are also very close to the Harbour and Beaches, Porthmeor Beach being no more than 50 yards away, this is the best surfing and body boarding beach, my children had great fun in the waves.

To sum up, this is a fantastic cottage in a wonderful location and if you are thinking of holidaying in St Ives you will not find better accommodation, Debbie provided excellent customer service and I shall be recommending this outstanding accommodation to family and friends.
Owner's Response: Thank you Nicola and family, you are welcome back any time, and I am touched by your warm review. Thank you.
