STUNNING FORMER FISHERMAN'S COTTAGE IN THE HEART OF ST IVES BY BEACHES.SEA VIEWS

St Ives Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Sleeps 5, in three large bedrooms, steps away from shops, beach and harbour

A classic 110 year old former fisherman's cottage, with sea views, situated in the conservation 'Downalong' area of St Ives, on a pedestrian only quaint cobbled street, just off the most photographed street in this gem of a Cornish town. The cottage is tucked away in a quiet lane behind the main area for shops/restaurants and harbour front, therefore no steep hills to climb, common in St Ives! The location is just perfect. The cottage has been totally refurbished over the years and offers accommodation over 4 floors, walking into the large lounge/diner with two fireplaces and a beamed ceiling, steps down to the large kitchen/breakfast room with beamed ceiling and toilet off, and outside covered courtyard with drying area, steps up from the dining room to two large bedrooms again with beams, one double, and one set up as a large single that has sea views, bathroom with shower, up to a large attic room with twin beds and far reaching views over St Ives Bay. A quirky, quaint but modern cottage, typical St Ives.

PARKING

As with most of the cottages/houses in the lower central part of the town, there is no parking, however, there is a long stay (weekly) car park behind Porthgwidden beach on 'the island' and I would say, anywhere that has parking will generally be at the top of the town, and a steep climb, or on the outer reaches, so it's a bit of a trade off. Personally, I would much rather be down in the harbour area with all the restaurants and beaches minutes away! The car park is also a few minutes walk away.

The cottage is larger than average for St Ives, and could accommodate more people but I have chosen to keep numbers to a sensible level so everyone has their own space, however, it is suitable for couples, up to the larger family, as it has a warm and cosy feel despite the extra space.

KITCHEN

Lower ground floor. Kitchen/breakfast room with open beamed ceiling, quarry tiled floor, Bosch electric fan oven and grill, electric hob, microwave, flat screen LCD TV with Free view and integral DVD player, fridge, new Bosch water saving dishwasher and washing machine, table and chairs currently set up for four, for childrens meals or snacks, a sturdy wooden baby high chair, separate WC and back door to covered courtyard area for hanging washing and storing boards etc, wheelie bin and back alley leading down to Fore Street, and all the best shops and restaurants, perfect!

GROUND FLOOR: Main entrance from pedestrian only quaint cobbled lane in to small porch area, steps up to large lounge/dining room with open beamed ceiling and real leather chocolate and cream sofa and chairs, real flame/coal enclosed gas fire,32' Panasonic flat screen LCD TV with Freeview, DVD, Micro Hi Fi system with DAB radio, CD and Ipod dock, small library of books, second cast iron Victorian fireplace in dining room (not in use), second dining table for 5 people.

FIRST FLOOR AND ATTIC ROOM: Main bedroom with cast iron and brass double bed and beamed ceiling, Main bathroom with cast iron bath and shower over, a large single bedroom with pretty cast iron bed, tongue and groove colour washed and beamed ceiling and halogen spots and sea views over roof tops across the bay, steep stairs to a large attic bedroom with colour washed ceilings and halogen spots and two cream metal single beds, wide ranging views across St Ives bay and beyond.

All of the above rooms are tastefully decorated and have original art work hanging on the walls.

Guestbook comments from the owner
We had a super Easter at this cottage, plus weather was amazing. it was a summer holiday in Spring, without the flights! Everything went smoothly and the holiday was totally stress free. The cottage is very spacious and well provisioned. Being close to three amazing beaches, you can choose which beach to relax on depending on the wind direction and if you are up for a surf, this is also on tap. You don't really need a car as you are surrounded by beaches, walks, shops and restaurants. We are going to book again for 2011 as the location is so good. By the way, watch out for the seagulls in St Ives, they like ice cream and pasties and are experienced at getting these from you!

I have had a love affair with St Ives ever since my children were young, now they are grown up with children of their own! I live in Hampshire but Cornwall is my second home. We have 3 whippet dogs who love nothing better than to run and explore as soon as they get down to Cornwall. I grew up with a father in the RAF, so we were always on the move, so a home is very important, whether it be here in Hampshire, or in St Ives.

Mrs Debbie Elliott purchased this cottage in 1997

St Ives holds a special place in our family. So when camping up on the top of the hill when the children were in their teens, house hunting was a must! Finding the cottage was like coming home, it had such a wonderful feel. Over the years the cottage has been refurbished, and loved. I hope you have the same sense of place on entering!

The most convenient, safe, traffic free location, in a quiet spot away from the main shopping street but just a few steps away, so you can pop out for the morning paper, a cake for tea, an urgent pint of milk, and to the pubs and restaurants in the blink of an eye! The harbour is so close, and the famous surfing beach of Porthmeor, and the Tate gallery are a short 5 minute stroll away.

Stunning and homely!

  • 5 of 5
Have just spent New Year week at salmon's Leap with my partner and 11 year old daughter and all I can say is wow! The cottage is beautiful and the attention to detail is amazing. Location is perfect: you are right in the heart of St Ives but tucked away so are not disturbed by noise ( even on New Years Eve).
Your every need is catered for at Salmon's Leap, it is modern yet doesn't lose the feel of being a tradional Fisherman's cottage. It is incredibly well equipped and very warm and cosy. We have already booked for next New Year!! (Sadly, our summer week is already booked up so we will be slumming it elsewhere!). Many thanks to Debbie for a wonderful week and to Helen for ensuring the cottage was spotless and giving us a warm welcome.

Wonderful Week Long Stay At Salmons Leap

  • 5 of 5
Salmons Leap turned out to be the perfect place for a week-long vacation. My wife and I were entertaining my Mom (80) and two aunts (75 and 70). They loved it.
The location is outstanding; less than one minute from Porthmeor Beach which is our favorite St. Ives beach. While everything is 'close' in St Ives, Salmons Leap is literally 2-5 minutes from fresh bakery, hot coffee, superb takeout, and cold ales.
Everything in the cottage was very clean, organized, and welcoming.
We all enjoyed the movies and DVDs; a nice touch since our visitors were looking for English TV and it was a great way to relax at the end of the day.
Parking is a bit tricky in St. Ives but Mrs Elliott's instructions were very helpful. We parked in the long stay just up the hill.
One extra nice thing was the good communication before and after our trip. All our questions were answered and it made the admin part of holiday letting better than most. Deposits were returned immediately. Thanks!
We definitely will recommend Salmons Leap to those looking for a terrific let in St. Ives. Thanks Debbie to you and your team for making it a truly memorable week especially for my Mom and her sisters. Cheers! Greg and Cathy

Cozy with charm & character in a great location!

Cozy with charm & character in a great location!

We are so glad we opted for this lovely cottage in the heart of the historic centre of St Ives.

In quick summary - we had an amazing stay.

We hadn't been to St Ives, so it was so nice to be somewhere absent of chain restaurants/shops etc. with beautiful sandy beaches within 2 minutes walk.

St Ive's surrounding streets are quite steep and cobbled, so being in this location meant we could stroll out in the mornings for coffee on the beach with our new baby and in the evenings enjoy the fantastic local restaurants with ease (Mermaid and SeaGrass both exceptional). The crab and cheddar crepe from Pels was also amazing...

Salmon's Leap is an updated fishermans cottage arranged on 4 floors. It was very clean, very well (and thoughtfully) organised, full of character with all the mod cons to make life easy.

I think the only mod con absent is WiFi but I was happy to find that BT WiFi (FON) is available from the dining area table - so a good plus if you need internet access.

I'm on Orange which generally good mobile (3G) reception - a bit patchy but workable at the back of the living room and a strong 4/5 bars in the top bedroom. My Wife is on Vodafone who generally seemed to have poor mobile internet reception (pretty much no 3G) in St Ives.

Parking can be a wee bit of a challenge (please be careful to only park in designated/marked bays in the Island Car park) but we would happily trade this for this amazing location as everything else was just so easy.

Debbie and Joy were such a pleasure to deal with & we would love to stay again!

A lovely tucked away cottage

  • 5 of 5
A lovely cottage right in the centre of St Ives. Such a brilliant location for everything. The cottage is nicely decorated and feels very homely.
The rooms are a good size and there is everything that you need in the kitchen.
Stairs are a little steep, but we coped well with a 2 and a 4 year old.

This cottage is simply perfect!

  • 5 of 5
This property is truly loved. It has everything you need to enjoy a holiday and much more. The property is ideally located, the entrance to the kitchen being easily accessible from Fore Street, but discreet and far enough away from the bustle of the late evening crowds. We found that this entrance was more family friendly than the front door as the sand from Porthmeor and Harbour Beach could be easily brushed off and swept out into the courtyard. We visited as a family of four and a Labrador, this cottage gave my 15 year old the space she needed to be independent and the top floor 'den twin bedroom' was just tailor made for my 11 year old son, private, with sea views; paradise! The location of the property meant that the kids could go to the shops on their own and could nip back from the beach if they needed to find the shade for an hour or so. The property was very easy to maintain as the housekeeper had left an array of cleaning products for us to use; uncommon and unexpected when self catering. As a tip, we ordered a Tesco delivery to be made to the cottage the morning after our arrival of which was greatly beneficial for ordering store cupboard staples and wine! (Wine can be expensive if not purchased with a meal in a restaurant which I think is brilliant as it keeps the streets and beaches free from excessive drinkers, an important factor when giving your kids a sense of freedom!)
The cottage is much larger than you would expect for the money. It is immaculately clean, comfortable, roomy, quiet, modern and so very tastefully decorated. It has personality, yet is incredibly homely. True, parking can be an issue, however, we were recommended a secure parking lot just off The Stennack, this was perfect as you could use your car as you pleased and not lose your parking spot. They were no more expensive than the other long stay car parks in St Ives. Nowhere will be better for us. The communication between the owner and us has been consistently exceptional. No surprises that we have rebooked Salmon's Leap for next year!

Stunning St Ives

  • 5 of 5
We have just returned from our second stay at this wonderful cottage in St Ives. The cottage is in the most ideal spot, close to the wonderful Porthmeor Beach and also just off the main shopping area, Fore Street. We were very lucky this year with the weather so spent every day on the beaches, which are simply stunning!

Salmon's Leap has everything you could possible need and the views from the attic bedroom are breathtaking.

My children are already asking me when are we returning. Thank you Debbie for another wonderful holiday!
