** For non-smokers only ** This apartment is situated on the second floor of a mock Georgian house that once belonged to the Heathcoat-Amory family. The property is surrounded by farmland for grazing animals.The owners live in the main house and have a menagerie of miniature donkeys, pygmy goats, ducks and chickens. The sitting room has views over Devon and Somerset - as far as the Blackdown Hills on the horizon. Pottery teaching studio at the premises for those who wish either to learn or to improve (subject to availability). Guests have the use of the hard tennis court, the covered swimming pool, a separate terrace outside. The busy market town of Tiverton, which is the largest town in Mid-Devon, is within walking distance. It has its own museum and a 900 year-old castle, the Grand Western Canal with its horse-drawn barge and the National Trust property of Knighthayes Court ** No pets in the apartment - a dog could join our Golden Retriever on the ground floor by prior arrangeme

Tiverton is the largest town in Mid Devon with a population of approximately 17,500 and is situated on the River Exe. Take a trip to Tiverton Castle and experience life as it was 900 years ago. Built in 1106, the Castle is one of the main tourist attractions of Tiverton. Knightshayes Court is the striking Victorian mansion and former home of the Heathcoat-Amory family. It is situated slightly North of Tiverton, from where spectacular views of the surrounding Devonshire countryside can be enjoyed. A rare survival of the work of William Burges, flamboyant architect of the late 19th century, this mansion displays a rich mixture of medieval romanticism and lavish decoration. The interiors and contents reveal a fascinating insight into grand Victorian life, and are enjoyed by visitors of all ages. Bickleigh Mill: Mid Devon's largest, most exciting rural shopping, eating and recreation attraction located on the River Exe at Bickleigh. Sailing is available at Wimbleball Reservoir.

Notes: Our own (heated) outdoor swimming pool is now finished, though the landscaping surrounding the pool still needs to be completed. The pool has a removable overhead cover for all-year-round use. Our hard-surface tennis court, croquet lawn, trampoline, swing and climbing frame are at your disposal. There is a pottery teaching studio at the premises - ask for details or more information about availability. The Miniature Mediterranean donkeys, the Pygmy goats, the Buff Orpington and Moran chickens and our friendly resident (female) Golden Retriever, Matty, are part of the scenery and guests may help with their daily care if they wish! Booking during school holidays are for weekly stays only (from Saturday 4 pm to Saturday 11 am), but we can be fairly flexible during term time - please check directly with us.

We absolutely enjoyed our stay and really recommend this place.
The apartment was clean and well equipped (towels, bedclothes, kitchen items, Wifi). The description given above by the owner is very accurate.
The area is nice for walking tours (Dartmoor, Exmoor), we also liked Tiverton Castle and Knightshayes Court. Tennis court and trampoline were fun and the pool will be great when finished.
Best of all are the owner themselves, nice and very helpful people, always having good advice for leisure activities.
We may go again.

Summer At Highfields

We arrived at Highfields at the end of July and had two fabulous weeks. The accommodation was clean and spacious and even on the rainy days we didn't feel on top of each other if we stayed in. Rosie and Giles are very friendly and hospitable. The children had the freedom of the beautiful gardens and we never had to worry about them. They played on the trampoline, fed the animals and even had tennis and pottery lessons. Our eldest daughter fell in love with Matty the dog who is the friendliest dog ever. Rosie kindly took our eldest daughter to a local farm to see the cows being milked. The swimming pool was a great hit with the kids and our eldest daughter was even presented with a Highfields certificate for swimming a width of the pool. We had easy access to the North and South Coasts and the visitor attraction Big Sheep was fantastic and especially suitable for young children. We highly recommend Highfields and hope to be back next Summer.

Family summer holiday 2009

Highfield offers an ideal location to enjoy an Engligh sea side holiday without being directly on the beach, a pleasant drive (we estimated on average about an hour) and you can be on either side of of the coast surfing at Woolacombe or fossil hunting along the jurassic coast - both were excellent! The countryside across Exmoor is stunning and great route to Lynton and Lynmouth again all reachable by car and smashing days out.
The appartment is well present and very much as described by the owners, we found everything we needed, all cleanly presented and tidy, the wi fi is a bonus for techie teenagers!
The grounds are lovely and offer a peaceful get away from it feel and the heated pool is a truly lovely feature which our children aged 10 and 12 at time of holiday (and their parents) thoroughly enjoyed.
Tiverton is walkable though we only ventured in a couple of times by car to make use of the large supermarket.
The owners are extremely welcoming and friendly without being intrusive and we do hope to return again.

We had a lovely few days staying at this apartment . ( Our daughter wanted to stay for ever !!)It was spotlessly clean and even provided towels and bed linen .The grounds had a trampoline, swing and climbing frame for the children . There was so much space outside with animals (donkeys , hens and goats) , also a tennis court which everyone enjoyed . It was in a ideal location , Tiverton has all the major supermarkets and a really nice indian resturant .Would go again .
