THE EASTERN ALGARVE:
With its stunning coastline, excellent golf courses and pleasant year round climate, the Algarve's 200 km stretch of shoreline is one of Europe's most popular holiday destinations. Bordered on two sides by the Atlantic Ocean, the Algarve is divided from the rest of Portugal by a series of low lying mountains. In the east, the Guadiana River forms a scenic border with Spain and it is here that Quinta do Vale is located. In contrast to the bustle of the West, the Eastern Algarve, with its still green hills and open areas of protected salt marsh has an air of tranquil beauty. One of the main Algarvian attractions is the year round temperatures from a sea water low of 15 degrees in January to 22 degrees in August. Corresponding land temperatures average 15- 28 degrees or more. Summer temperatures are usually muted by colling sea breezes from about lunchtime. With 3000 hours of sunshine annually, the Algarve is a favourite destination for sun lovers.
Beaches:
The Algarve is famous for its white sandy beaches and for those who wish to partake, there are several within easy reach from Quinta do Vale - our most favoured is 'Praia Verde' around 5kms away. Praia Verde is a small urbanisation perched on top of a hill with several shops and cafe bars. The adjoining prestigious 'Hotel Panoramico' is well worth a visit with an excellent a la carte restaurant overlooking the ocean. Taking the downhill road you reach the beach where you will find beautifully clean and expansive sands. The beachside restaurant there is also a great place to dine with good food and wine and coupled with the sound of the ocean, this is just the perfect retreat!
OTHER PLACES TO VISIT:
SPAIN - This location of Quinta do Vale also offers its visitors a close opportunity to visit Spain with the border being a mere 3kms away. The first town of Ayamonte is well worth a visit to sample to seafood, wine and Tapas. Seville is a real treat and can be reached in little over an hour.
TAVIRA - When staying in Castro Marim a visit to the beautiful Town of Tavira is essential. Here you will find many fine 18th Century buildings, 37 Churches(!) and a large range of restaurants and shops, mixing both the old and new elements of the Algarve. The town is steeped in history with known roots reaching as far back as 2000 B.C. A Roman bridge links the two parts of the town across the River Gilão, its sides decorated with traditional old bars and restaurants where can relax and enjoy a peaceful drink or meal, to suit all tastes. You can also visit the old castle, several monuments and the typical fisherman’s harbour which links to the waters of the Ria Formosa Natural Park.
