We have done a lot of travelling throughout the US and have bicycle toured in Holland, Spain, France, Corsica and Italy. We enjoy meandering, taking roads less travelled, and the joy of discovery-- whether it is an unexpected garden, a new cafe, hearing a new band, or spotting an eagle flying over Lake Calhoun. We enjoy playing host to our renters and introducing visitors to our wonderful city of Minneapolis.
Tim or Lara purchased this apartment in 1995
We fell in love with this house and this wonderful area. Hard to beat the combination of natural and urban amenities of Uptown and Lake Calhoun! NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC MAGAZINE RANKED MINNEAPOLIS 4TH in it's TOP 10 WORLDWIDE SUMMER DESTINATIONS FOR 2011, behind Patagonia and Washington's San Juan Islands! UPTOWN is a friendly urban neighborhood, lined with beautiful turn-of-the-century homes as well as a fun collection of stores and coffee shops, fancy to funky restaurants and music clubs which appeal to a wide variety of preferences and tastes.
LAKE CALHOUN provides plenty of opportunities for recreation and relaxation. In Summer there is beaching, biking, blading, walking, sailing, canoing, wind surfing, paddle boarding, and even paddle boats accessible for rent. There are even sailing classes available! Almost like Summer Resort Living!
Winters are Sunny and and Brisk--none of the dreary gray of many Northern Cities. This home has great Sun Access. You can cozy up by the Fireplace or just enjoy a nice Sunbeam.
Minneapolis was recently ranked the NUMBER ONE BIKE FRIENDLY CITY in the nation by Bicycle Magazine. Access to the system of local and regional bike trails is steps away with bike rental available locally during summer and bicycle rental kiosks available all over the city from April to November. Lake Calhoun features 3 miles of bike and walking trails with a great view of the Minneapolis skyline. It is part of the city’s Chain of Lakes trails and also intersects with regional/commuter biking/blading/walking trails like the Midtown Greenway Trail.
We like our big small town of Minneapolis!

The Hennepin Avenue Theater District now has four restored theaters which serve as venues for touring Broadway plays and concerts. Excellent transit service or a short taxi ride from Uptown will conveniently take you there!
Bright spacious and attractive space. Excellent location - 1 block from Lake Calhoun and easy walking distance to restaurants, shops and nice grocery store. Tim and Lara were knowledgable and helpful. We'd stay there again.
Just returned from a week stay in James Lakeview house. We loved our stay - the house is spacious, sun-filled, tastefully decorated, clean and comfortable. It has all a family may need for their stay, and is a block walk from Lake Calhoun beach and trails. The owners are extremely nice, helpful and knowledgeable of the are. We loved our stay, and would love to come back again one day. Highly recommend.
We have stayed in many VRBO's, and this was one of the best: Clean, well equipped, perfect location to shops, restaurants, and Lake Calhoun. Tim and Lara had decorated the apartment for Christmas, and it felt like home. Tim was instantly on any questions/requests we had regarding the apartment. When it snowed, Tim shoveled the driveway and steps so quickly we hardly realized it had snowed. It is larger than the pictures make it seem. Also, a major thing for non-techies: the wi-fi was the easiest and most reliable of any VRBO's we have rented. Thank you for making our family Christmas even better.
For those of you who don't know Minneapolis, it has one of the most beautiful park systems in the country, and Lake Calhoun is one of its jewels. The property is one short block off the lake (which you can make out from the living room window). It is a great location. Easy hop to downtown, too. The owners, Lara and Tim, could not have been nicer. The apartment was clean, and fit our family of 4 (which includes a 9 and an 11 year old) quite well.
I stayed here for two months last summer with my 6-year old daughter while awaiting the arrival of my second child. I'm from Minneapolis but now live in Tanzania, so I knew this was a great location and was not disappointed. My daughter and I were able to walk to the beach and park at Lake Calhoun in the evenings after work, bike around on the weekends, and comfortably walk to great restaurants and fun shopping. Tim and Lara were very accommodating to our needs - which were many! - and it was a welcoming and comfortable home for us during our two-month stay. I'd recommend it to anyone but it's especially great for families with kids.
This little home is a gem. It was peaceful, very clean and was painted in beachy colors. It reminded me of the magazine REAL SIMPLE. There was plenty of room--bigger than I expected from the pictures online. Tim was a very nice host--helpful. They left us with freshly ground coffee from a local coffee shop and a loaf of french bread...classy touches. We enjoyed Lake Calhoun and walking around Uptown. My only critique would be I wish there was a nice outdoor area to sit and have coffee and look out at the lake....maybe a little patio in the corner of the yard. The yard was overgrown and needed some attention. We come to Minneapolis a couple times of year and I have many friends who travel to the Twin Cities. I will definately share this property info with my friends.
The activities and amenities of East Calhoun and Uptown make it feel like a Four Season Resort!
Besides enjoying the lake, biking and skiing trails, cafes, and shopping--there are many local and city wide events that showcase the rich arts and fitness culture of Minneapolis. See the CityPages website for the most updated calendar of local events.
