Car: not necessary
The Tyros area is on the east coast of the Peloponnese. It is nearly equidistant from Astros and Lionedion with four settlements and a population of around 3,000. The apartment is in the coastal settlement, Paralia Tirou (Paralia means Beach). The beach settlement is compact, nestled in orange and olive groves while the other settlements are in the hills up the valley. There is a full range of facilities, including food shops and tavernas, as well as good medical services. It is not necessary to have a car if your interests are in the local beaches and walking in the hills. Further afield there are traditional hill villages and monasteries - some in spectacular gorge settings. These villages have their own charms and specialties, with the most famous being Kosmos on the road to Sparta where there are studios and local honey and other local produce - including home cooking. Bus transport from Athens (around 3hrs trip) is frequent through the day and the service is comfortable.
