Choose from many wonderful possibilities or you can just do it all: Take in the first sunrays with a cup of coffee on the East facing porch. Imagine waking up away from your life’s distractions in a cozy retreat with two large bedrooms, an inviting dining room, a modern kitchen, a comfortable living room with wood burning stove, two covered porches — facing East and West respectively, a wonderful garden, and an infinity of singing birds. Imagine a place with high ceilings; a look-out to sea from an armchair on the front porch or a ten minute walk to the beach where the islands of Puget Sound rise out of the ocean in the distance. The focal point is Protection Island, a magnificent rocky outcrop that is a Federally protected National Wildlife Refuge. Protection Island is known for its breeding colony of Tufted Puffin, rhinoceros auklets, and gulls. It is on the flyway for many migrating birds. Seals, sea lions, orcas, and other cetaceans are often seen nearby.

Nestled in the arms of Discovery Bay in the Olympic Peninsula, Diamond Retreat is a fully furnished home, decorated with original art by Northwest artists. It has a huge front porch with comfortable furniture, a nice front yard, and a back yard that borders Miller State Park.

If you feel ambitious, you can hop on your bike and explore the endless trails of the nearby Park, or simply take a walk on the meandering streets of the neighborhood and probably never see a car. A ten-minute walk will bring you to a private beach that goes on for miles in either directions, at the bottom of the cliff.

About The Owner

We are both artists and Jay is also an architect with his own practice. Jay works in encaustic (painting with beeswax), and Dionne works in print media (etching, woodblock, etc.). We are passionate about hiking, skiing, camping and riding our motorcycles.

Why The Owner chose Sequim

Over the years, we have rented cabins near Sequim several times and recently we realized that we have grown very fond of this area because there is sense of space. The mountains are nearby, yet the distance between mountains and shore is vast and offers much opportunities for walks and hikes. One of our favorite places is the Dungeness Spit, and it is close enough that we can often go walk there.

What makes this house unique

When we first came to visit the property, we remember stepping onto the huge porch that had seduced us when we found the listing on-line, and it was like we felt 'enrobed' by the silence (it was December 26 so there were no birds then!), and a deep feeling of peace overtook us. It was a wonderful experience. Within a month, we became the owners and with every visit since then, that sense of calm and space has grown. Dionne can often be found on the front east-facing porch, paying attention to the birds' songs, trying to see if there are different from the previous visit. Her favorite is the owl, and she always looks forward to hearing it again.

This is a peaceful place with all the amenities. We had a great dinner cooked up in the well-appointed kitchen, walked the area at all times of day and watched the amazing celestial show at night. Easy access for exploring both Sequim and Port Townsend. We'll be back!!!
