Luxurious and comfortable accommodations. Easy one block walk to the beach and still located in town and in the center of many attractions. You won't need to use your cars every time you want to do something in Galveston.
Walk to many of the the best and most popular restaurants in Galveston, shop and stroll along the Seawall which is the longest continuous side walk in the US.
My family and I rented this home as a way to celebrate my 30th birthday; there were 8 adults and 4 children. The home was very spacious and we never felt cramped or lacking personal space. The layout of the home is exactly as the owner shows in the layout and we were able to sleep 12 people easily. The home was built in the early 1900s and has all the charm that you would expect in an older home. The kitchen and bathrooms have been remodeled but the house still has an historical feeling to it and the wooden floors creek in places like you would expect in an older house.
It rained off and on during our stay but it didn't detour us from enjoying the beach which is literally a block away. The front porch was a huge hit with my family and I think we spent more time out there than in the house itself. The sea breeze can be felt from the porch and you can see all kinds of seabirds which my father really enjoyed. The game room and the bunk beds in the adjoining sunroom were a huge hit with the kids and provided them with things to do as the adults prepared dinner in the large open kitchen. As it was NBA playoff season, the guys also enjoyed the 42" TV in the dinning/entertainment room and the gas/charcoal grill in the back yard. The shower in the downstairs bath is perfect for rinsing sand off when you come back from the beach and can be accessed easily by the back door without dragging sand throughout the house. The upstairs bath has a jetted tub which the kids and adults both loved.
There is a small grocery store and liquor store just a block west of the house and was great for picking up things we forgot. If you would like souvenirs, Murdoch’s is just a block away on the beach. We also enjoyed a trip to Moody Gardens, shopping at The Strand, a banana boat ride at 10th & Seawall and took the free ferry over to Port Bolivar and back (and yes we did see dolphins!). We didn't have enough time to enjoy Pleasure Pier but it was easily within walking distance.
The owner was so helpful in answering any questions I had and provides a very detailed list of things to know about the home upon checking in. He was always accommodating and quick to respond to my emails. I would also like to add that the home was extremely reasonably priced for the location and amount of space provided and I would definitely recommend to friends, family or anyone looking to have a great time in Galveston.
we had a great time and it was perfect with separate rooms for 4 couples and 2 singles. It was roomy and had everything we needed. I loved the downstairs bathroom and the whirlpool bath was very interesting and those that used it said it was relaxing. Hope we can get it again next year and I will be sure to get with you earlier to get a couple of parking permits but it all worked out perfectly. Thanks for sharing the house with us.
Writing this a little late but hope it helps. This is a house that has "character". If you bothered by things that are a little old or a little dust in a corner here and there, it may not be for you. Out family loved it. It was warm, cozy, all the amenities you could possibly want were there. We spent NYE there and just had a great time.
One block to seawall, three blocks to pleasure pier, immediate contact with filth and insults. After arriving at the house we quickly realized that we could not stay due to the amount of filth on the walls, furniture and in the kitchen, several of the beds were not made from the previous tenants. The cleaning person did make an appearance...he jimmied the lock on the back door and broke in moments after we arrived, I am guessing he was the one frying bacon and smoking cigarettes in the house shortly before we arrived. He had broken back in because he'd forgotten "some of my food in the refrigerator." The front door was completely unlocked when we arrived, at which the cleaning person appologized profusely. This made my family feel uneasy, coupled with the general filth we reloaded the car and spent the rest of our vacation at a very nice hotel.
The host would not give us our money back and has been very insulting. He said we have "Howard Hughes type cleanliness standards and that cleanliness is relative." among other insults.
BEWARE!!!! DO NOT RENT THIS PROPERTY!!!!
We had 10 family members arrive in town for a wedding on Sunday. We all had plenty of room and sleeping space. The kitchen was well-equipped and awesome. Wish there had been an ice maker in the fridge. Plenty of things to do for the kids. Walked to Pleasure Pier on Saturday. Local store made purchases convenient. Little short on parking (we had a total of five cars). Rudy and Jim were great to deal with. Backyard grill was nice touch. We're planning another "reunion" next year and this place will certainly be on the top of our list.
My family and I had a great Memorial day weekend in Galveston. This is a great house to rent for a weekend getaway it has everything you need for home away from home. It was clean and very comfortable for 13 people. We enjoyed our stay and we will rental again.!!
