Here is the perfect family getaway perched on the red sand banks of rural Augustine Cove where the water is warm and the natural beauty is breath taking.
The light filled rooms of this spacious open concept summer home feature expansive windows on both the main and upper floors overlooking the sand and water. A fine collection of Canadian antique pine furniture gives a classic coziness to this cottage and an example of what might be found in shops on the island.
Sleeps up to 14, in 2 bedrooms with queen sized beds, one room with a double and 2 bunks, and a cheery bunk room with 4 single bunks. Two additional single beds are nestled under the dormer windows of the upper floor. Beautiful linens are provided in all.
There is a full bath and shower on the upper floor bathroom and a 3 piece bath with a shower on the main. Wash off the sand and salt in the outdoor deck shower after an afternoon on the beach.
The open concept kitchen looks out past the living and dining area to the water. It is fully equipped and large enough for two cooks to practice their skills on the abundant local seafood. Lounge in the living area looking out to the ocean and enjoy the music library or your own collection on the iPod dock or CD changer. If the evening is cool enhance the cottage atmosphere with a fire in the wood burning island stone fireplace. The antique pine table in front of it will seat 10 comfortably.
There is an expansive wrap around deck that allows you to follow the sun throughout the day for lunches at the picnic table or drinks in the colourful Adirondack chairs. There are more on the point deck perched on the bank above the beach and there are two large sun umbrellas and plenty of fluffy beach towels. Head down the beach stairs to stroll for miles when the tide is out on the red sand or swim in the warmest waters on the island, or take the whole gang for a kayak on the cove in the 6 kayaks in our shed. Life jackets are provided. 4 hybrid mountain bikes are also available for a ride around the cove road or into one the most charming villages on the island, Victoria by the Sea, where you can find excellent local home cooked food at the Landmark cafe before an evening play or concert at the Victoria playhouse. Also enjoy ice-cream, homemade chocolates, a fishing wharf, and antiques.
The farm road that circles the field behind the cottage is an excellent quiet place to walk or get a run in.
I live in the foothills of southern Alberta but have a great love for this very unique place on the water where my children spent their summers. We have a strong bond with the community at the cove and feel so pleased when our island friends inquire about when we're coming 'home'.
Zoe Hardy purchased this cottage in 1998
We discovered the Cove when good friends invited us for dinner one summer that we were staying on the North Shore of PEI. We had a great dinner and decided we should stay. We bought the property that fall and completed the cottage the following spring. It was love at first sight.
The shining water and sparkling sand, the bird calls and general peace of this gorgeous natural area had us hooked.
This has been an exceptional family place for both our family and our friends. We never tire of the view across our lawn! The cottage is large enough to give everyone the privacy they might need, or the fun of a game of scrabble or a lobster cook up on the deck with the gang. It has provided us with a gorgeous, peaceful place to share time with the people we love to hang out with.
We came to PEI to celebrate a significant anniversary and thought how perfect it would be to have our family with us - and finding the right place was the highest priority on our list! From the moment we walked through the doors and could see the ocean to discovering the star filled sky's at night we knew this was exactly what we needed! Our daughters and their families were with us as well as my mom, and we had ample room for everyone. Lots of space to hang out with the group or just escape to have a nap. Having the area around us allowed the kids to play freely with their only boundary the stairs leading down to the ocean. The weather man did not want to cooperate this summer however nothing deterred us from doing - we hunted for shells, had a Bon fire on the rocks ( collected drift wood and there is a full supply of freshly cut wood) to cooking all the fresh seafood we could eat. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need, candles for the chandeliers, rubber boots for the rainy days and amazing sunrises!!! The cottage reminded us of Muskoka which is a place that is very dear to our hearts and was both quaint and spacious. Definitely would come back!!!!!
The owner of this cottage was very accommodating and extremely lovely to speak to. Though I will not have the opportunity to stay I did want to highlight how pleasant, responsive and accommodating she was when helping me plan my trip.
This cottage is out of coastal living magazine! It far exceeded our expectations and gave us not only plenty of room…but also the tranquility and comfort that we really needed. It is perfectly decorated, equipped, and set up to spend good time together as a family but also gives everyone their own space when desired. So simple yet so elegant, it is the perfect beach cottage.
The décor is simple and beautiful, and the house is so well stocked we could not believe it. The first floor is open concept with tall wood ceilings, pine floors, and walls of huge windows overlooking a view you will never tire of. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need. There is a full laundry room with an extra sink, refrigerator and storage. The large wrap around deck is furnished with lots of wonderful adirondack chairs and a picnic table as well.
Upstairs there are 4 bedrooms all very comfortable and tastefully furnished. The master bed is one of the best we have slept on in a while and the breezes and sounds that come in through the windows are so relaxing, you just don’t want to wake up in the morning. This house has high-end linens and towels which truly set it apart and is often overlooked in vacation properties. The upstairs den with TV was one of our favorite rooms…..picture perfect! There is no AC in the house, but it wasn’t needed as there was always a cool breeze (even during our stay in July).
There are so many extras that come along with staying at this house it's hard to list them all out. We loved just walking around and seeing the different island items Zoe had found and furnished it with. This home is on a huge oceanfront lot that provides a very private almost estate type setting with a perfectly maintained flat yard. There is a boardwalk and staircase leading down to the amazing red sand beach. Our favorite was the evening sunset walks when the tide was out, which is just breathtaking. The beach and views are ever changing with the tides. There is a storage shed that houses a number of kayaks and adult bikes which was also really nice. The owner seems to have thought of everything that would make for a perfect and comfortable beach vacation. She is also a pleasure to work with and her recommendations were spot on. We really hope to make it back sometime soon…. Thank you again so much for sharing your home and making our time on PEI very special and memorable.
