Lake Lure House Rental Photos and Description
2 riverfront mountain homes...main house: 9/6 and second bungalow: 2/1
The River House is a large home located in Chimney Rock and is within walking distance of Chimney Rock Village, NC, the Chimney Rock State Park entrance, and beautiful Lake Lure, NC, where Dirty Dancing was filmed. The Little River House is our personal cottage and is directly across the river from the main house. We rent both homes together as a package and this brings the sleeping capacity of both houses up to 22-23 guests. The large home, the River House, sleeps 18 and the Little River House, a quaint 1922 bungalow directly across the river sleeps an additional 4-5 guests bringing the total number of guests possible to 22-23. The River House is on Main Street in the village of Chimney Rock and sits on the Rocky Broad River. The Little River House is directly across the river and is accessible by car or on foot over a one lane country bridge. The main house has 4 decks overlooking the river and the little house has a small yard, screened porch with rockers, deck, and is also on the river. The River House can host large groups/families of up to 23 people (children/babies, seniors, and all age groups are welcome!) with lots of room for everyone to relax and enjoy the Rocky Broad River (you can swim in the river right behind the house and there are plenty of big rocks to play on and/or lay out in the sun!) and all the fun activities nearby (ziplining, horseback riding, rock climbing, and hiking in Chimney Rock State Park, just to name a few of the activities) WHEN THE WHOLE HOUSE IS NOT RENTED, WE OPERATE AS A BED AND BREAKFAST. The River House is available to be rented out by a group/family and closed to the public when the whole house is rented. You can check the calender for when the whole house is rented. If the dates are not reserved on the calender for a large group, then it is renting during that time period as a Bed and Breakfast or still available for a family reunion. I know this can be confusing so if you have any questions at all or for more information, please feel free to call me on my listed contact number, 941-730-1183. If I don't answer, please leave a message and your call will be returned promptly!
This home originally belonged to friends who operated it as a Bed & Breakfast. They have since retired. (We originally stayed as guests in the 1980's). The B&B was sold twice, went into foreclosure, and sat vacant for four years. We were thrilled to be able to rescue the inn when my husband was serving in Afghanistan and have lovingly restored it. The restoration took ten months and we continue to work on it and make improvements every year.
We are offering the both homes for rent for family reunions, get togethers, golf groups, women's shopping/antique trips, and more. If you have an idea for a gathering and need information about amenities, restaurants, activities, etc...please feel free to ask...we can help you plan an event. We also have a fulltime caretaker who lives nearby and is available to assist you during your stay. When the whole house is not rented by a group, it is operated as a Bed and Breakfast Inn.
The River House is built on the river. There are three levels and a sub-basement. The lowest level has three bedrooms, each with a private bath and a separate entrance to a deck at river level. The main floor at street level has a cozy living room with a fireplace, a kitchen and a 9 foot dining room table with lots of room for a large family. The kitchen and dining room each have double french doors which open to a large and spacious riverfront private deck. This deck has a large grill and has plenty of outdoor tables, rockers, and nine foot umbrellas that make it perfect sitting outside visiting and listening to the river below. The main floor also has a large master bedroom and bath. This room has a huge picture window and sitting area perfect for enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening while watching the beautiful Rocky Broad River out the window. The second floor includes five bedrooms and two bathrooms. Two of these bedrooms can be combined into a suite with its own door and bathroom. The other end of the hall has 3 bedrooms (2 you can open the windows and sleep with the sound of the river at night) and one bath and can be closed off as a suite.
The hardwood floors on all levels have been newly refinished and the main floor living room includes a beautiful rock fireplace for chilly evenings. The main floor deck, accessible from the kitchen and dining room, overlooks the Rocky Broad River and sits beneath Chimney Rock. It's perfect for outdoor dining and relaxing after a fun day on the lake, hiking, cycling, or simply putting the computer and cellphone away and reading a book. There are multiple views of the river and Chimney Rock from the bedrooms and decks of the RIver House. You 'll also enjoy the serenity and calming sound of the Rocky Broad River.
We have three bedrooms with king size beds, one room with two twin beds (they can be pushed together if necessary for a couple), and the rest of the bedrooms have queen size beds. Most of the bedrooms have a great view of the river and you can sleep with the windows open at night and hear the river outside your window. The kitchen has been renovated and has stainless steel appliances and reclaimed wood countertops. We utilized reclaimed wood throughout the renovation, including the fireplace mantle and the kitchen and dining room tables. The original heart pine floors are also restored to bring out the beauty of the natural wood grain. Concepts of reuse, recycle, and re-purpose have been incorporated to make our home as green as possible. We have also strived to make our home a comfortable and relaxing retreat and getaway!

We are a blended family of five with a mom and a dad and three college age sons. We have a spotted daschund named Bella who loves running up and down the stairs of the River House! My husband and I are high school sweethearts who reunited after 36 years apart. He has served our country overseas with his last tour of duty in Afghanistan ending in 2011. He is now retired from the Army and is working in Tampa, Florida. We plan to move to Chimney Rock and become fulltime innkeepers. We renovated this inn top to bottom and you can check out the 'before' photos on the Facebook listing, 'River House at Chimney Rock' or on our Pinterest Page...River House at Chimney Rock. I have recently added more 'before' photos. It has been a true labor of love to work on this charming home that belonged to my dear friends, the Shermans, and to carry on all the happy memories and see more families use and enjoy a home that means so much to me personally.
We bought the River House because I used to live in this area year-round with my son and love the area and love all the activities it has to offer. I think it is one of the most beautiful areas in the country and I find it relaxing and wonderful to spend time there. I also love that there is something for everyone...activities for every type person from a hiker/boater/to a shopper/antiquer or a golfer or boater!
There are so many things to do when staying at the River House. You can go zip lining, white water rafting, inner-tubing down the Green River, rock climb, hike, horseback ride, or you can just curl up riverside with a good book and then walk one block into town for dinner. Fill the days with activities or just relax and rejuvenate!
