Overview

Lake Lure House Rental Photos and Description

2 riverfront mountain homes...main house: 9/6 and second bungalow: 2/1

The River House is a large home located in Chimney Rock and is within walking distance of Chimney Rock Village, NC, the Chimney Rock State Park entrance, and beautiful Lake Lure, NC, where Dirty Dancing was filmed. The Little River House is our personal cottage and is directly across the river from the main house. We rent both homes together as a package and this brings the sleeping capacity of both houses up to 22-23 guests. The large home, the River House, sleeps 18 and the Little River House, a quaint 1922 bungalow directly across the river sleeps an additional 4-5 guests bringing the total number of guests possible to 22-23. The River House is on Main Street in the village of Chimney Rock and sits on the Rocky Broad River. The Little River House is directly across the river and is accessible by car or on foot over a one lane country bridge. The main house has 4 decks overlooking the river and the little house has a small yard, screened porch with rockers, deck, and is also on the river. The River House can host large groups/families of up to 23 people (children/babies, seniors, and all age groups are welcome!) with lots of room for everyone to relax and enjoy the Rocky Broad River (you can swim in the river right behind the house and there are plenty of big rocks to play on and/or lay out in the sun!) and all the fun activities nearby (ziplining, horseback riding, rock climbing, and hiking in Chimney Rock State Park, just to name a few of the activities) WHEN THE WHOLE HOUSE IS NOT RENTED, WE OPERATE AS A BED AND BREAKFAST. The River House is available to be rented out by a group/family and closed to the public when the whole house is rented. You can check the calender for when the whole house is rented. If the dates are not reserved on the calender for a large group, then it is renting during that time period as a Bed and Breakfast or still available for a family reunion. I know this can be confusing so if you have any questions at all or for more information, please feel free to call me on my listed contact number, 941-730-1183. If I don't answer, please leave a message and your call will be returned promptly!

This home originally belonged to friends who operated it as a Bed & Breakfast. They have since retired. (We originally stayed as guests in the 1980's). The B&B was sold twice, went into foreclosure, and sat vacant for four years. We were thrilled to be able to rescue the inn when my husband was serving in Afghanistan and have lovingly restored it. The restoration took ten months and we continue to work on it and make improvements every year.

We are offering the both homes for rent for family reunions, get togethers, golf groups, women's shopping/antique trips, and more. If you have an idea for a gathering and need information about amenities, restaurants, activities, etc...please feel free to ask...we can help you plan an event. We also have a fulltime caretaker who lives nearby and is available to assist you during your stay. When the whole house is not rented by a group, it is operated as a Bed and Breakfast Inn.

The River House is built on the river. There are three levels and a sub-basement. The lowest level has three bedrooms, each with a private bath and a separate entrance to a deck at river level. The main floor at street level has a cozy living room with a fireplace, a kitchen and a 9 foot dining room table with lots of room for a large family. The kitchen and dining room each have double french doors which open to a large and spacious riverfront private deck. This deck has a large grill and has plenty of outdoor tables, rockers, and nine foot umbrellas that make it perfect sitting outside visiting and listening to the river below. The main floor also has a large master bedroom and bath. This room has a huge picture window and sitting area perfect for enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening while watching the beautiful Rocky Broad River out the window. The second floor includes five bedrooms and two bathrooms. Two of these bedrooms can be combined into a suite with its own door and bathroom. The other end of the hall has 3 bedrooms (2 you can open the windows and sleep with the sound of the river at night) and one bath and can be closed off as a suite.

The hardwood floors on all levels have been newly refinished and the main floor living room includes a beautiful rock fireplace for chilly evenings. The main floor deck, accessible from the kitchen and dining room, overlooks the Rocky Broad River and sits beneath Chimney Rock. It's perfect for outdoor dining and relaxing after a fun day on the lake, hiking, cycling, or simply putting the computer and cellphone away and reading a book. There are multiple views of the river and Chimney Rock from the bedrooms and decks of the RIver House. You 'll also enjoy the serenity and calming sound of the Rocky Broad River.

We have three bedrooms with king size beds, one room with two twin beds (they can be pushed together if necessary for a couple), and the rest of the bedrooms have queen size beds. Most of the bedrooms have a great view of the river and you can sleep with the windows open at night and hear the river outside your window. The kitchen has been renovated and has stainless steel appliances and reclaimed wood countertops. We utilized reclaimed wood throughout the renovation, including the fireplace mantle and the kitchen and dining room tables. The original heart pine floors are also restored to bring out the beauty of the natural wood grain. Concepts of reuse, recycle, and re-purpose have been incorporated to make our home as green as possible. We have also strived to make our home a comfortable and relaxing retreat and getaway!

About Rondi Jennings

We are a blended family of five with a mom and a dad and three college age sons. We have a spotted daschund named Bella who loves running up and down the stairs of the River House! My husband and I are high school sweethearts who reunited after 36 years apart. He has served our country overseas with his last tour of duty in Afghanistan ending in 2011. He is now retired from the Army and is working in Tampa, Florida. We plan to move to Chimney Rock and become fulltime innkeepers. We renovated this inn top to bottom and you can check out the 'before' photos on the Facebook listing, 'River House at Chimney Rock' or on our Pinterest Page...River House at Chimney Rock. I have recently added more 'before' photos. It has been a true labor of love to work on this charming home that belonged to my dear friends, the Shermans, and to carry on all the happy memories and see more families use and enjoy a home that means so much to me personally.

Rondi Jennings purchased this house in 2011

Why Rondi Jennings chose Lake Lure

We bought the River House because I used to live in this area year-round with my son and love the area and love all the activities it has to offer. I think it is one of the most beautiful areas in the country and I find it relaxing and wonderful to spend time there. I also love that there is something for everyone...activities for every type person from a hiker/boater/to a shopper/antiquer or a golfer or boater!

What makes this house unique

There are so many things to do when staying at the River House. You can go zip lining, white water rafting, inner-tubing down the Green River, rock climb, hike, horseback ride, or you can just curl up riverside with a good book and then walk one block into town for dinner. Fill the days with activities or just relax and rejuvenate!

What a great place for a family get togeher at Thanksgiving. The location is great, the accommodations are superb and the surrounding area is fantastic---lots to do and see for all ages. Family reunion

  • 5 of 5
We came from Texas, Arkansas and Washington to have a family reunion. There were 19 total so we rented the Little River Cottage in addition to the Chimney Rock River House. The hardest part was deciding who was going to get which room, since they were all so lovely. We thoroughly enjoyed hearing the river when sitting on the decks or with the windows open in the bedroom. Although the weather was not the best, we did manage to have a whole lot of fun. We hiked to hickory nut falls then on to the top of chimney rock. We enjoyed kayaking, zip lining, taking the boat tour of lake Lure and shopping in both Chimney Rock and Black Mountain. We cooked most of the time but did enjoy a few meals out at LaStrada, and Tia B's. Both are highly recommended. Rondi warned us that there would be more to do than time to do it and she was correct. It just means we will have to come back again to enjoy the rest of what we missed !

Charming and Comfortable Vacation House in Scenic Area

  • 5 of 5
Rondi, the owner of The River House, provided my family with the perfect week-long vacation retreat for a multi-generation family reunion this summer. Not only were our accommodations both comfortable and private, but the house was also very charming. Each morning we sipped our coffee on the deck overlooking the serene river, and each evening we enjoyed long family dinners around the large dining room table. As an added bonus, the surrounding area offered a multitude of recreational activities for our varied ages and interests, including hiking to spectacular waterfalls and mountain overlooks, canoeing and boat touring on Lake Lure, dining and shopping in the quaint local establishments, touring the breweries in Asheville, and attending an Asheville Tourists minor league baseball game. Lastly, although I never met our host Rondi in person, I consider her a friend, as she spoke to me by phone on several occasions before my family's visit to insure that we would enjoy our stay at The River House.

Family Reunion at The River House

  • 5 of 5
Rondi, I want to thank you for the wonderful week we had at the River House. It was everything we expected and even more. We had 18 guests ranging in age from 10 to 76 (which included four teenagers 13-18) and everyone had such a great time. The view and sounds of the river from the house is something that we will always remember. There was plenty to do which included swimming in the Broad River and Lake Lure, zip lining, trail climbing, tubing, paddle boarding, playing golf at the Apple Valley Golf Course, putt-putt next door and visiting the shops at Chimney Rock village. Ingles supermarket was only 15-20 minutes away which was very convenient for those quick trips to the store. Chimney Rock Village and Lake Lure have some great restaurants that we thoroughly enjoyed. We want to thank Crissy, the house manager, for being so helpful when we arrived. The week was just too short since there is more that we wish to see and do. We intend to be back.

Family Retreat

  • 5 of 5
In June of this year (2014) our family spent a week at the River House in Chimney Rock. There were 17 of us, including 5 youngsters. The 9 bedrooms in the house were beautiful and the perfect number to accommodate us all. The River House was absolutely charming, as were the owners Rondi, Jay, and house manager, Christie. We couldn't have felt more at home. The location was convenient to shopping, restaurants, and beautiful Lake Lure. Even better, they were all within an easy walk. We chose to eat most of our meals at the residence and found the kitchen equipped with everything we needed for meal preparation. The Rocky Broad River was just behind the house and kept us entertained by providing tubing fun by day and lullabies at night. All the decks around the house gave us beautiful views and opportunities to enjoy the soothing sounds of the river as well. It was a great week and we wouldn't hesitate to visit the River House again.

Great Family Vacation!

  • 5 of 5
The River House was wonderful! Exactly as described and pictured. Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and all of the activities that Chimney Rock Village has to offer. There is truly something for everyone of all ages to enjoy. We enjoyed hiking to Chimney Rock with the beautiful views, boating, fishing, kayaking, swimming at Lake Lure Beach and behind the house in the river, gem mining, seeing the flowering bridge, and walking throughout the village area. We played miniature golf next door to the house with our grandson. The deck views from the house are phenomenal, of both the river and Chimney Rock. The sound of the river is so relaxing. We would highly recommend this home for a vacation stay. Rondi and Jay have truly thought of everything to make your stay an absolute pleasure. Thanks so much to both of them and to Chrissie, who manages the house. Upon our arrival, she met us and gave us a tour of the home, to orient us to it and the area. She made herself readily available to answer any questions during our stay, and was very prompt to call back, with any questions we had. We will have many fond memories of the River House and our family vacation there. Thank-you again!
