The Inn at Arkada is located on the Puget Sound at Arcadia Point between Shelton and Olympia. This area of the Sound is noted for its safe, calm water which is ideal for kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and boating. A nearby boat ramp (within 100' of the property) is convenient for launching your boat. The panoramic view overlooks Mt. Rainier, Hope Island (a state park with hiking trails and clamming in season), wooded Squaxin Island, and Steamboat Island.
This comfortable family/pet friendly 3000 sq ft home features 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, open, spacious living and dining areas, large playroom, well equipped kitchen and large deck overlooking the active waterway. Two bedrooms are situated on the main level, one of which has a queen and twin bed, and the other has one queen and one double bed. Each bedroom has a full bathroom. The third bedroom, with a queen bed, is located on the upper level. The upper level also features bunk beds, a sleeper sofa, a bathroom and a large play area with ping pong.
The property overlooks a working waterway with tug and barge traffic and shellfish scows. The waters abound with aquatic sea life and birds. Eagles and deer are frequent visitors. The beautiful private beach, low bank waterfront, calm water, amazing 180 degree view, comfortable living, and convenient location make the Inn at Arkada a very special place.
Our family had such a wonderful time at the Inn at Arkada! Wayne and Joan have a perfect place for families to get together. We were so delighted to not only have plenty of room and comfort for our large group, but a beautiful setting, and the house was delightfully decorated for the holidays! Thank you so much for making our Christmas absolutely fabulous!!!!!
This is our second time to spend a week at The Inn. It's all we need and want for a family vacation including my 99 year old Mom to my cousins who drive over from Montana. Being on the water is what it's all about, watching all the boats coming and going kept us busy, and the deer all around us kept us in awe. This year we timed it perfect to have 2 pickings of the yummy blackberries growing wild all over. The Olson's are wonderful hosts and right there for anything one might need......thanks guys for another splendid stay.
We had a fantastic time! The accommodations were great. I found everything I needed to make dinner for the WHOLE family, total of 8. My favorite bonus was the awesomely superb view of Mt. Rainier, on a clear day. We enjoyed watching the oyster gatherers. The boat ramp provides extra entertainment. We were in awe of the 3 deer that visited the yard next door. Our 2 grandsons, 8 & 4, enjoyed low tide, and exploring the beach area.
Since our eldest son lives in Shelton, we look forward to visiting again. Thank you so much. You have a REAL GEM! Xoxoxo. SJW (Kate was a very big help.)
This was my second stay at the Inn at Arkada. Shelton is my home, so when I travel there I usually meet family from other states. This beautiful home perfectly houses us all in comfort. The view is wonderful and visiting family always take pictures to take home with them. The owners are friendly and helpful. It just feels like home. The kitchen is perfect and stocked will with the equipment you need to make meals for my crowd. Cell phone and internet services is very weak but it makes for a quieter time. My go to place when I visit home.
Our family, consisting of three generations, was in Shelton for my niece's wedding and decided to make a week of it in this lovely home on Puget Sound. The home is clean, airy and spacious, and was perfect for all nine of us, including a five-year-old, a three-year-old, and a two-month-old. There is plenty of room to spread out, and the upstairs playroom was a great place for our granddaughters to play - there were even lots of toys for them - also beach toys outdoors.
The kitchen is well-stocked with basic spices and coffee, as well as paper towels and trash bags. Plenty of pots and pans, and other baking dishes. There was more than enough cutlery and place settings for our group - we had other family members over for a couple dinners and never ran out of dishes (although we did stock up on paper plates in the interest of clean-up ease).
The back deck is comfortable, and the views of Mt. Rainier, as well as the waters of the sound were amazing. The beach was perfect for all of us, particularly the children, who had so much fun along the shore. We used the gas barbecue, and had great meals.
The entire time we were there, we had only one small problem - the disposal stalled - and the owner came right over and fixed it.
All in all, we had a wonderfully relaxing time, and I think the Inn is even better than it shows on VRBO. We are hoping to return!
We live in Utah and love the opportunity to spend time in Washington with our friends. What made this trip special was this beautiful house we stayed in. There was plenty of room for my husband and I plus three of our dearest friends. The kitchen and deck were the communal gathering places - they are spacious and made for great times together. We love the open kitchen where we were able to prepare our meals and still visit with each other. The view is spectacular! We highly recommend this place and will want to stay here each time we come up. Thanks to our hosts for the best time ever.
Special Local Events:
A special yearly event is the Squaxin Island Tribe’s Blessing of the First Salmon which is held on the beach right next door. This includes a ceremony followed by a traditional salmon, clam, oyster, and Indian fry bread feast to which the public is invited. This takes place in August before the Indian fishing season. During the Tribal fishing season, nets teeming with salmon are pulled onto the beach in front of the bulkhead. The Tribal Canoe Journey also takes place in August. Colorful Tribal canoes are launched from the adjacent beach, where local tribes begin their journey. Oysterfest in nearby Shelton is held in October. This event includes an international oyster shucking contest, great food, and entertainment.
Other year round nearby entertainment includes gaming and entertainment at Little Creek Casino and golfing at the brand new Salish Cliffs 18 hole course. Enjoy wine tasting at Walter Dacon Winery or purchase fresh local shell fish at Taylor Shellfish Retail Store, all just a few miles away. Boaters can cruise to nearby Percival Landing in Olympia for shopping and dining. Arcadia has become a popular spot for Kayakers who paddle Hammersley Inlet into Shelton on the incoming tide and back to Arcadia on the outgoing tide. Hope Island State Park, just across the bay, is another favorite destination with hiking trails and clamming in season.
