Kinna and Gene Ohman-Leone are rescue horse trainers who use only positive reinforcement methods (no punishment or pressure). They live on a farm and have 3 horses, 1-2 foster horses in training, 4 sheep, 2 border collies, and a small flock of chickens (all the other animals are also clicker trained!).
Kinna and Gene Ohman-Leone purchased this cottage in 2004
Kinna Ohman-Leone purchased this property as her main home in 2004. She loved the fact she could live in the midst of the Adirondack High Peaks, while being two doors away from Rivermede Farm Store (with the farm itself located just a mile away). She finds the community of Keene Valley to be a vibrant place to be!
Kinna Ohman-Leone loved living here and exploring the local trails (whether along creeks or up mountains), eating great food at the Noonmark Diner and Ausable Inn, and enjoying the local communities of Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, and Tupper Lake.
Great place to stay. It worked well for us with an 11 month old baby: All one level, close to family friendly accessible trails and functional space. Owners and property manager responded quickly and kindly when we contacted them about an issue. Definitely enjoyed our stay!
Comfortable, warm, great sleeping. Close to trails and food resources
Good place to stay if you have pets. We had 3 dogs and there was plenty of room for them and 4 adults and 1 teenager. Needed to get in touch with owner - responded right away. Very friendly and helpful.
This is a great place to stay for hiking in the high peaks region of the ADKs. It's central to many trail heads! It also has a fenced-in yard for dogs. We will definitely be returning!
We loved that after a day of rock climbing we could walk to dinner or the grocery store. I even went to a lecture at the Keene Valley Library. We had a few picnics in the town park on the river. We suggested that they get a BBQ. It was a bit noisy being right on the road but after 9pm there is very little traffic. House was clean and comfortable.
I spent a week at the Hiker's Roost in early June. The location is perfect. The rates are better than most for the High Peaks area. The house itself is clean, spacious, and well maintained. The owners were a pleasure to do business with. Unlike some other properties I considered, the availability schedule was up to date and my initial and subsequent inquiries were answered promptly. I would recommend this rental to anyone looking for an Adirondack adventure.
