If you are looking for a clean, warm place to put up your feet after a day in the mountains, the Hiker's Roost (formerly Chickadee House) is a three bedroom, comfortable base camp in the High Peaks of the Adirondacks.

The Hiker's Roost is located in the hamlet of Keene Valley. Keene Valley is the starting point for amazing mountain access into the eastern High Peaks.

We offer a vacation rental with a two night minimum. Discounts occur if you book three nights or more. Dogs are welcome.

The Hiker's Roost is available year-round as a base camp while you explore the eastern High Peaks Region of the Adirondack Park -- whether you're here to hike along the valleys, climb the peaks, ski the summits, or take part in winter mountaineering.

The Hiker's Roost is a simple yet comfortable single story manufactured house with a full kitchen (stocked with dishware, cooking utensils, plates and glasses, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, etc...), washer and dryer, plus two full bathrooms (one with an extra large bath tub). In the winter, there is a wood stove and plenty of firewood available for you to create a cozy atmosphere. We also have soft flannel sheets on the beds in the winter to help you have the perfect night's sleep.

The Hiker's Roost is dog/pet friendly and has a fenced in back yard. The house is on NYS Route 73, two doors down from an wonderful local farm store (Rivermede Farm based here in Keene Valley). You will be walking distance from the Mountaineer (less than 10 minute walk) and local dining places such as the Ausable Inn (approx. 15 minute walk), and the Noonmark Diner (approx. 20 minute walk).

The Hiker's Roost is set up to be ecologically friendly. The house is painted with no-VOC paints, we use recycled paper products, and we provide ecologically safe dishwashing and clothes washing soap to protect our local environment.

Price is for double occupancy. Each additional person is $25/night. Discount of 10% if booked for three nights or more.

Check in time is 4pm.

Check out time is 11am.

She loved the fact she could live in the midst of the Adirondack High Peaks, while being two doors away from Rivermede Farm Store (with the farm itself located just a mile away). She finds the community of Keene Valley to be a vibrant place to be!

Kinna Ohman-Leone loved living here and exploring the local trails (whether along creeks or up mountains), eating great food at the Noonmark Diner and Ausable Inn, and enjoying the local communities of Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, and Tupper Lake.

The Hiker's Roost is clean, simple, and ideally located for hiking the High Peaks. We wanted to bring our dog and I noted that many "dog-friendly" rentals require one to keep the dog crated. That's not dog-friendly. Dogs go on the couch at the Hiker's Roost, and they have their own sheets for doing so. Will definitely consider a return to the cottage.

The property was clean and comfortable and really well located for exploring the high peaks region. The village of Keen Valley had a great vibe. The owners and the neighbors were very welcoming and super helpful. We had a great time!

We stayed at Chickadee house for 5 nights at the end of the summer and loved its location- near Lake Placid, near Mt Marcy, and just down the road from the Diner and the Farm Market. It is very clean, Kinna and the caretaker were very helpful, and the kitchen was well-stocked for all the cooking we did. We swam at Coperas Pond, hiked up to the Flowed Lands at Mt Marcy, canoed on the Saranac Lakes (we saw Loons!) and shopped and lunched in Lake Placid. We loved getting fresh eggs and milk at the Farm Market. The house backs up to deep woods, so lots of birds, including the drumming of a Pileated Woodpecker. Mornings on the back deck are lovely. The only down side is the proximity to the highway, so lots of traffic sounds at peak traffic times. Great place to see wild life, we saw deer and fox driving in. Overall, a wonderful place.

Spacious Spotless Relaxing Close to Everything

We had an awesome time at Chickadee House. Right in our favorite town in the Adirondacks, it was walking distance to restaurants, shops, our favorite pie (Noonmark Diner) and fresh fruits/veggies practically next door (Rivermede Farm). The house was spotlessly clean, bright & airy & open. Only negative was that it was close to the road but we didn't mind. Fabulous house for Adirondack lovers who want to be in town. We would definitely stay here again. Hope to be back next summer! Thanks!
