We loved this house. It has a wonderful feel, great amenities and is bright and airy as described in the description. Being located close to the town square, makes one feel part of the community. It was well suited to our group of 5 with bedrooms located on 2 levels, a formal living room, separate dining room and great rooftop area with comfortable lounges, allowing us personal space. Sundowners on the rooftop were enjoyed every evening with stunning sunsets over the town and harbour with the Mediterranean in the background, there is even a fridge on the rooftop.
The house has recently been tastefully restored with all the rooms freshly painted. The kitchen has all the equipment that is need to whip up some gourmet Greek food. There is a modern flat screen TV that wasn’t used much as there is always so much to see and do.
The owners, Jodie and Steve were very accommodating and helpful. Everything was organised with the keys being available on our arrival with heaps of useful information about the island, the restaurants, the town and people.
We would recommend this property to anyone who is looking for a break from the usual busy tourist locations. We felt that we became part of the local town community with the school one block away, the town square an easy walk through pedestrian lanes where the local people socialise drinking coffee in the evenings, a fresh food market open every weekday and the fishing jetty that sells fresh fish within 5 minutes walk. We cooked our own meals sometimes; however the local restaurants within easy walking distance on the waterfront and in the pedestrian lane ways all served great fresh Greek cuisine. We tried in vain to visit the local museum; it was always closed even when it was supposed to be open during the advertised time.
In order to experience the whole island, it is definitely worth hiring a car for a few days to visit places like Pythagorio and the tunnels also The Temple of Hera at Ireon. Manolates is a wonderful mountain village. Kokkari is a busy tourist beachside town with a great beach and we would highly recommend the whole grilled fish at Meltemi Restaurant.
It is a great stepping off point to visit Ephesus in Turkey, which is well worth the visit.
