A perfect location in Cambridge and the Eastern Shore for family, families, or a group of friends vacationing, or attending special events in Cambridge or nearby historic communities such as St. Michaels, Oxford and Easton. Cambridge was named the #10 Best Small Town in America for 2013 by Livability.
Our large, fully updated smoke-free home is located in the West End Historic District within walking distance of the downtown shops, restaurants, museums, Long Wharf Marina featuring the Choptank River Lighthouse and Great Marsh Park (riverfront park with picnic shelters, boat ramp, small sand beach and site of Eagleman Triathlon and IRONMAN Maryland). We are located just three blocks from the Choptank River, which offers outstanding boating, sailing and fishing off of the old Choptank River bridge.
You are welcomed to our gracious home by the wrap-around porch with a wicker swing and lots of wicker seating in the open area as well as a screened-in section with additional seating, a dining table and ceiling fans. The beautiful entryway is notable for its three story stairway with original chestnut wood details that continue throughout the home. The main floor includes an updated and equipped kitchen with island seating, a living room with pocket doors and a large dining room that features a table which opens up to nine feet and seats up to twelve for large groups. In addition there is a half bath with a full laundry.
The second floor offers three spacious bedrooms - two with queen beds and one with a double bed, an office and two fully updated baths, one of which is en suite. The bedroom with the en suite bath also has an alcove large enough for a playpen/crib. The third floor includes two charming bedrooms - one with a double bed and one with a double and a twin, and an updated bathroom.
The house features wireless high-speed internet and cable TV in the kitchen and living room, including a DVD player in the living room. The back yard is fenced in with a patio and small porch off the kitchen.
Cambridge is a charming “Main Street” community with great restaurants (many featuring local fresh seafood), unique shops and art galleries. Museums include the recently completed Harriet Tubman Museum and the Richardson Maritime Museum, as well as the Sailwinds Visitors’ Center with adjacent park and sandy beach.
The arts are well represented by the Dorchester Center for the Arts and many downtown art galleries. In addition, nearby towns offer attractions such as the excellent Maritime Museum in St. Michaels and the beautifully restored art-deco Avalon Theatre offering year-round live entertainment in Easton.
For nature lovers, Dorchester County abounds with opportunities for hiking, kayaking, cycling, bird watching, hunting and fishing. We are empty nesters with a daughter in Brooklyn and a son in Boston. We live in central New Jersey, but our work gives us the flexibility to get away and enjoy the Eastern Shore.
Roger and Meg Hayden purchased this house in 2007
What drew us to Cambridge? The relaxed lifestyle of the community and surrounding Eastern Shore, with its extensive waterfront and natural rural areas, historic charm and friendly folks. The town has seen an influx of great restaurants and shops as it has undergone revitalization in recent years. And it offers quick access to other historic Eastern Shore towns and easy day trips to Annapolis, Baltimore, Washington, DC, Atlantic beaches and Assateague Island. We also took the opportunity to buy and restore an antique cabin cruiser, fulfilling a long-time dream.
We stayed at this charming house for three days during my birthday weekend. The house is fully loaded with everything from a wine opener to washer and dryer. It is impeccably furnished to complement the the style of the home and spacious! This is the perfect location for your annual family reunion, girls getaway weekend or any milestone celebration. The kitchen is adorable and is fully equipped to cook in with dishes, pots, pans, large refrigerator and great standing room for all your guests. The backyard is also lovely, and the wrap-around porch is the perfect spot to lounge in on the swing! Look no further for your lodging needs in Cambridge, MD.
Literally everything was perfect. Stocked better than most permanent houses, the fundamental house is beautiful and comfortably spacious with a meticulous eye for and execution of decorations and landscaping, first rate furniture and complete amenities. There have been some architectural upgrades - all well done - and the house is in extraordinary condition without a single creak that I could discern. And the owner couldn't have been more gracious or forthcoming with information - happenings in Cambridge or what to do to set the AC if needed. A rare completely enjoyable experience!
They could definitely use some new pictures for this place - because the ones they have don't do it justice! This house is stocked with everything you could think of - toiletries, towels, kitchen ware, spices, you name it. We brought my brother's hobie (sailboat), and the water being a stone's throw away was nice. We weren't out in Cambridge very much, but the one time we went out to eat was great. If you're going to Cambridge, definitely stay here.
We were in the area for a family reunion and this house was perfect for us. It is a beautiful old home that has been restored to include all the modern amenities you would want or need. We enjoyed coffee each morning on the large wrap around porch after meeting in the kitchen to talk and fix breakfast. It is only a few blocks from town and from the water and we rode around on the bikes the owner provided. We had 6 adults and there was plenty of space to get together or to have your own privacy. The owner was very easy to work with. We have some family in the area who now want to take a few days to stay in the house and enjoy it.
This property is an absolute treasure providing the right balance of common space and privacy when needed during this birthday weekend. The home has everything you need from a well appointed kitchen to a fabulous porch with seating for all. Within walking distance of the harbor and the many exciting new restaurants in Cambridge, we felt like we were staying at a five star resort without the snooty help. A must stay at property. Perfect for a group dinner and very relaxing.
