Nice studio in Nob Hill, walking distance from North Beach and down town. Views.

This nice and comfortable studio is completely remodeled. The kitchen has custom cabinets as well as stainless steel appliances. It is a full kitchen with all necessary equipment. The bathroom is tiled and has an authentic claw-foot tub/shower. The living room is also the bedroom with a queen size mattress which is very comfortable. All bed and bath linens are provided. The washer and dryer are located in the basement of the building. Furthermore, you can enjoy the terrific view from the common area deck located on the roof with a view of the surrounding city and Golden Gate Bridge. Single sofa bed available for a 3rd guest.

Who lived here?

Samuel Dashiell Hammett (May 27, 1894—January 10, 1961) was an American author of hardboiled detective novels and short stories. Among the enduring characters he created are Sam Spade (The Maltese Falcon), Nick and Nora Charles (The Thin Man), and the Continental Op (Red Harvest and The Dain Curse). In addition to the significant influence his novels and stories had on film, Hammett 'is now widely regarded as one of the finest mystery writers of all time' and was called, in his obituary in the New York Times, 'the dean of the... 'hard-boiled' school of detective fiction'. Samuel Dashiell Hammett lived in this apartment while he was finishing writing The Maltese Falcon.

The reservation service was really efficient and easy and any questions I had were deal with immediately by email. The apartment is just great - it's a studio (with a literary provenance!) which is perfectly laid out with all the amenities you can wish for. We loved its location on Leavenworth - close to some lovely deli markets, coffee shops and the excellent public transportation system. But also an easy walk into downtown. I'd have no hesitation in staying in this apartment again.

Great Location, Clean, And Very Fair Rates

The apartment was small, but very clean and comfortable. It is on the ground floor, so expect some noise from the street, but its not any different than anywhere else you might stay, in any city. The kitchen is very well kept, with all the utensils you may need. The rooftop patio is AWESOME, and there is a great deli/grocery store less than a block away. Laundry facilities in the basement are great too. Check in was very easy, and dealing with Bernat and Andreas was very pleasant. Less than a block away from the trolley stop and a couple blocks away from Chinatown. Learn to use the trolley on California street, for getting up and down the hill and you will be good to go. Some of the nearby awesome places to grab a bite to eat would be Umami Burger on Union St. and also check out the tiki bar/polynesian restaurant in the Fairmount Hotel, called The Tonga Room, best cocktails ever, and the food is amazing. Both places are in walking distance.

Just perfect!

The place is incredible!
The apartment is located in Nob Hill, a few blocks away from all the attractions in San Francisco... if you don't mind walking up and down hills. We found is quite a workout!
The bed is incredible comfortable, is like sleeping on a cloud. The apartment is complete, with everything you need to enjoy your stay. Only one block away there is a grocery store with everything you need, from canned soup to ready to eat plates, and wine too!
The staff was really helpful and responsive to all our questions.
We highly recommend this place. For sure we will come back for our future stays at San Francisco!!!

This was a great experience. We loved the old style charm of the apartment...high ceilings, tile bath floor, wooden floor in other spaces. Communication and attention to detail by the renting organization was wonderful. We enjoyed the high quality appliances, and view from the roof-top deck. The bed was exceptionally comfortable - just like home. Nice hot shower in clawfoot tub. Convenient location to cable car and bus routes. This apartment will not disappoint. We love the Nob Hill area!

Fab Apartment!

We visited San Francisco over Halloween half term, staying in the apartment. We had a really lovely time.....apartment exactly as in pictures and as described. Handy location with public transport and also in great location for those who fancy a walk.
Lovely deli at the top of the road.
Parking to be honest was a nightmare, having to drive around for a good 1/2 hour each night and then getting a space by pure chance!! However this seems to be a problem in all areas of SF and shouldn't put you off going to this apartment as it is definitely value for money! I would certainly recommend to a friend.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Tourists without a Car, Sightseeing, Romantic Getaway
