The mountains around Allihies and the surrounding countryside provide a wide selection of mapped walking routes. 'The Strand', the lovely sandy beach at Ballydonegan bay, is the perfect place to swim and sunbathe. There is a professional dive school in the village. Horse riding, shore angling, golf, and tennis are other local options. The village boasts three pubs which regularly feature traditional music sessions. There are three restaurants.
