My wife and I have always loved the river and all the activites it has to offer. Fly fishing, rafting, hiking and exploring the area, as well as kicking back on a beautiful day gives us time to relax from our busy work schedules.
The Owner purchased this house in 2009
This home is close to Eugene/Springfield and sits in a beautiful location on the river, with easy access to the water.
Sitting on the deck, with a view of one of Oregon's covered bridges, offers you an unique experience to photograph and explore upclose a piece of history.
We stayed here with our family of three as an early birthday getaway for my husband. The fishing in front of the house was so-so, but we heard that the river was about to be stocked so it sounds like we just missed the big ones by a few days. No matter, he still enjoyed being out in the river for hours each day and even helped our six year old land one! The home is clean and well maintained, as are the grounds. The river access was very easy and we waded in the water every day, skipping rocks. (it was unseasonably warm for September!)
The owner is understandably concerned about the number of stairs that lead from the house to the various decks and to the river, which is why this listing says "no young children". Don't be put off by that. If you have toddlers this may not be for you, but our six year old had a blast! The stairs are very solid, with appropriate railings. Also note that there are two bedrooms on two floors. So, if you have a kiddo with night-time needs this could be a concern.
We met a few of the neighbors during our stay, very nice! The house was also very quiet inside, despite the proximity to the road and bridge. And, there were a lot of games available to play when it got too dark to fish.
This weekend was a much needed family getaway and we would not hesitate to return. Many thanks for sharing this great spot!
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the McKenzie River. This was the first time we rented through VRBO and our experience was truly amazing. This was not just a house but a true HOME!!!!! Janet and John's home was not only well located but was beautiful inside and outside and equipped with everything you would need for a relaxing vacation. My husband was able to catch fish every day and I was able to kick back and relax on the wonderful and spacious deck area. The weather was incredibly beautiful. When we return to this area we will definitely chose this home again.
Wide decks overlooking a sloping lawn to the beautiful McKenzie River with a covered bridge off to the side made for an idyllic setting. Cuddled in a throw for morning tea on the deck was dreamy as was starwatching at night! The decks were perfect for napping, meditating, visiting, watching. We enjoyed watching the drift boats, the ducks, and the geese. The house had plenty of room for everyone. The kitchen was well-stocked. Plenty of towels. The only thing missing was an iron, but who needs an iron on vacation? The location was great for several day trips to pick blueberries, to visit the fish hatchery, to see other covered bridges, to drive along the meandering McKenzie River, to take a scenic bypass to the lava fields and to see mountain peaks. Our first trip to Oregon was altogether fantastic. Thank you, Janet, for staying in touch and making sure everything went smoothly.
Our stay was so enjoyable for our daughter's graduation weekend from the University of Oregon. My husband and a few others fished right out back. The kitchen is well equipped, plenty of movies to watch and enjoyed a few games of pool. Grill to BBQ, a fire pit to hang out at and plenty of deck area. My morning coffee on the deck was wonderful, except for the rain that came on graduation! There is a beautiful cover bridge right next door, wonderful place for pictures! I recommend this home to all!
We rented this home for a fishing trip on the McKenzie and couldn't be happier. The home was very clean and the owner was more than accommodating with our schedule. You will not be disappointed. If you are looking for a quiet home and a place to get away from everything, this is your place. The deck, fire pit, and riverfront setting were AMAZING. We are definitely going to stay here again.
This is an immaculately maintained home that has everything you need for an amazing weekend on the McKenzie River. The photographs are accurate and the home is kept neat as a pin. Every detail is taken care of for the discriminating traveler. We especially enjoyed the fireplace in the very spacious living room. The house also has an outdoor fire pit for a relaxing evening next to the river.
The homes is at a great location for exploring the McKenzie River itself, and it's also reasonably close in to the Eugene/Springfield area. The spot right in front of the house had fishermen all day both days we were there and it appears to be a pretty popular spot. There is also a large lake like area just 1/4 mile down the river if you like to float while you fish. My wife and I spent a wonderful weekend there and it's ideal for a couple, or possibly two, if they don't mind sharing a shower. The kitchen was well equipped, and we cooked all but one of our meals at the house. The owner even included a pound of high-end ground coffee for our use in the coffee maker! The home has an awesome entertainment center with a wall mounted flat screen, plus a tournament grade slate pool table if you get bored. The owner is very reliable and responsive in addition to being nice. You can't go wrong on this one!
