|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
Beautiful new furnished 3 bedroom home with great room, sitting area, full kitchen with all the dishes, pots and pans you will need. The master bedroom has a separate full bathroom. The two upstairs bedrooms share a full bathroom and each has a covered patio out sliding doors. There is also a guest bathroom on the first level. 2 Queen beds and a double are comfortable. All towels and linens provided and care-takers wash the linens after departure.
Caretakers live in a casita on the property, speak English well and have a booking agency for tours in the Monteverde area or elsewhere is Costa Rica. A covered patio off of the dining area is perfect for a barbeque dinner or just to sit and look at the beautiful view, sipping wine and watching the birds. The house is on a 2000 square meter property (1/2 acre) just down from the continental divide. Hear howler monkeys in the forests nearby. The temperature here in the mountains is a comfortable temperate climate year round.
The house is 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) from Santa Elena, which has grocery stores, restaurants and various shops.
Monteverde is a key destination because of the several cloud forest reserves where tourists can hike or take guided tours. There are numerous other attractions, including night hikes, birding tours, exciting zip lines through the forest canopy, canopy bridge hikes, coffee plantation tours, waterfalls, and animal reserves. Monteverde is one of the only places in the world to see the Resplendent Quetzel, perhaps the most beautiful bird in the world. There are numerous other species of birds to see, including a number of types of Tucans. Wild life abounds.

With our 5 children grown, we wanted a place in Costa Rica. Of all of the places that we have traveled, none have appealed to us as much as Costa Rica. When we come to Costa Rica, we sometimes stare at one another and declare, 'We just love it here.'
Ken Waldron and Carol Murray purchased this house in 2007
We had traveled many places, but the beauty of this place and the warm friendly people drew us like a magnet. We went to spanish immersion school here and have developed our many 'Tico' friendhsips.
We have developed a number of friendships, some with other foreigners but mostly with Ticos. It is an easy country to travel in. Dollars are accepted everywhere and in most places English is spoken. The forest across from our property is known for the variety of birds.
We were so glad to arrive and find this house to be everything it claimed to be. The property is in a good location, maybe a bit too far to walk to town for some, but doable if you like walking. It's a short drive though and easy to get back and forth.
The house is new, modern, clean and well equipped. The owners are very good communicators as is their support family that lives in an adjoining part of the house. We had wonderful surprises like a plate of papaya picked right from a tree by our door and a delicious desert delivered as a surprise treat one night. You won't be disappointed with the property itself.
As far as others who have mentioned the winds and in particular this location we are very sorry to have not taken them seriously enough. Yeah, a little wind, big deal. Well it's a big deal. It would be a great idea for the owners to put a kilo of ear plugs in a drawer for those who don't come prepared because the noise from the wind, it does howl, and the rattling of the windows and sliding doors makes it almost impossible to sleep. There are more sheltered places around Monteverde where the wind is not so noticeable, but this location is in an open field with no protection. Take heed and bring something to stuff in your ears. We took tour pamphlets and jammed them into the sliding door frame to reduce the rattling of a bedroom on the downward side of the wind direction which helped a little bit but nothing can reduce the howl of the wind streaming across the house. Maybe we were unlucky with the weather, but we asked and many said this was pretty typical winds for the area. The wind does not let up, and is at its strongest at night so be prepared.
Still a wonderful area to visit and we would go back as the house is truly a 5 star, but just a bit more prepared. Good value and caring owners were the key.
Our family of 4, 2 adults and 2 children, stayed in this house for two nights and had a wonderful time. The house is very comfortable, clean, nicely located, and very spacious. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you might need and everything is in perfect condition and good quality. Ken, the owner, was very organized and sent us very detail directions in advance. The housekeepers were very nice and accommodating. We could not wish for a better place to stay.
We were a group of five who found Casa Amigos almost perfect with its three bedrooms, two full baths, half bath and a very large kitchen, dining and living area. As the nights became cool and windy we huddled under the lovely comforters that we found in the upstairs linen closet. Overall, the place is clean, spacious and well equipped.
Once we described in detail our phone and internet problems the caretaker had an ICE tech up to the house within an hour and those problems were resolved with a new cable connection. Phone and internet worked perfectly for the rest of our stay.
Yes, the area can get quite windy...to those of us who have been there before it seem like more than we remembered. Yet, that is part of the charm of the area. We had wonderful hikes (day and night), birding, etc. We enjoyed coming back to Casa Amiga for an evening of cards and friendship. This will be our place of choice when we return with other visitors from the states.
This house became our home away from home for our family of 4 for 4 nights. The house was very comfortable and clean and the hosts provided a wonderful Costa Rican dinner for our 1st night (extra charge). This was a great home base while we explored the area. Only a few notes, while we were there the internet was not working (upon our return have notified the owners) and this area can become fairly windy especially at night. If noise bothers you at night I would recommend bringing earplugs (it is worse in the 2 upstairs bedrooms).
This well-equipped house was a great place to stay for my family of 5 adults. Ken provided very helpful information via e-mail ahead of time and the on-site caretakers were kind and welcoming. This was a great "home-base" for us during our travels in the Monteverde area. Thank you Ken and Carol!
Beautiful, spacious house just outside Monteverde (2 min drive). A great jumping off point for all Monteverde has to offer. The family who takes care of the house was very pleasant/helpful, and also prepared a fantastic meal for us one night as well. Thanks!
