This apartment, on 2 floors, has a living room, three double bedrooms and two bathrooms. It is at the rear of the building and so does not have traffic close by. The entrance hall (ground floor) leads to the living room which has direct access to a large, private garden square (enclosed and safe for children). The separate kitchen is modern and fully equipped with dishwasher, microwave and everything that a real cook would need. One of the double bedrooms is also at this level as is an elegant shower room and WC. Stairs lead up to the first floor with a bathroom, (shower over the bath) and two bedrooms (one double, one with a double and a single bed and having access to a small balcony).
The underground station at Gloucester Road (direct trains to Heathrow) is 5 minutes' walk, an enormous supermarket is 2 minutes' walk and the South Kensington museums are also within walking distance.
The apartment is very conveniently situated for public transport (Piccadilly, Circle and District lines of the underground system - 40 minutes from Heathrow). The museums are about 15 minutes' walk away and Knightsbridge (Harrods, etc.) about 20 minutes. The garden square with direct access from the apartment is fenced and secure for children.
First and foremost, I cannot say enough about the entire experience working with Norman and Andrea. They were prompt in responding, helpful and very gracious. Norman's emails always gave me a chuckle as he is entertaining as well as informative. They also left a bottle of champagne in the fridge, a handwritten note and two wonderful books for us. One of which is already proudly displayed on my own coffee table at home. The flat itself is PERFECT! We had two pre-teens (11 and 12) and my mother in law and we were all very comfortable in this flat. It is walking distance to a tube stop and to all amenities. You are also walking distance to Hyde Park, Kensington Palace, the V and A museum and Natural History museum. The biggest surprise of all was the private garden...here in the U.S. we would call this a park. I had no idea that "Direct Garden Access" was actually access to such a beautiful park. It was shady, filled with flowers and has a very nice walking path. It is also completely enclosed to anyone except for the residents who live along the gardens so it is wonderful for children. We spent a lot of time in this garden and will remember it fondly. Our holiday in London was fabulous primarily because of our experience at Melbourne House. Thank you again Norman and Andrea for everything!
I stayed in this wonderful flat with my son, daughter-in-law and two granddaughters (ages 9 and 12). The location was great. It is close to two tube stations and the grocery store is two short blocks away. We were able to have our breakfast each morning in the flat and ate most of our dinners there also. We would stop at the grocery store each evening and pick up delicious prepared food which we enjoyed very much. The size of the flat was perfect for us. I stayed in the downstairs bedroom which had a nice bathroom (with shower) just steps away. The others stayed upstairs and the girls loved the bunk bed arrangement in their room. They had a nice bathroom which included a washing machine/dryer which got used several times. It did take a little practice to figure out the hot water but by the second day of showers, we knew how to time it and no one ran out of hot water! Fresh flowers greeted us when we arrived and although we do not partake of alcohol, it was nice of Norman to leave a chilled bottle of wine in the frig for us. How wonderful to have WiFi provided and we all enjoyed the variety of DVDs and travel books for London. We even left ours for the collection. Norman has thought of everything! The flat is clean and well-furnished, quiet and met all our needs. We certainly will stay here again and recommend it to our friends. Our deposit was quickly returned within 48 hours which was gladly appreciated. Thank you Norman for sharing your flat with our vacationing family from the U.S.!
We (family of 4 plus grandmother) stayed at Norman's flat for a week in early April 2014. The flat is in an excellent location (halfway between Earl's Court and Gloucester Road tube stations), with easy access to just about anything you might need or want. I would gladly stay here again. In addition, Norman (the owner) was excellent. Norman provided more detail, answered all of our questions, and always responded quickly to our questions. The only complaint I could possibly offer was that the hot water for showers didn't last very long, but that's easily mitigated by being mindful of shower length and time.
Thanks to Norman for a great place and a great stay. HIGHLY recommend this flat.
The flat is in an ideal location, a very short walk to the subway and in a nice neighborhood! The garden that is out the back door is beautiful. It took us awhile to figure out the upstairs shower controls! Don't forget to bring your own face cloths. Went to two recommended restaurants (the pub and Indian one) both were very good. There were 5 of us and had plenty of room. Norman was responsive to all our inquiries and refunded our security deposit the next day. Had a great 5 days in London.
Wouldn't stay anywhere else in London. What a great apartment with everything that you could ask for. The information packs on the apartment itself were very handy plus packs on which restaurants to eat at, tourist sights and other interesting tidbits.
We were a family of four adults and the apartment was just perfect for the 4 of us. Plenty of room for all of us. Very clean - comfortable beds , relaxing lounge area, fully equipped kitchen AND
the private garden at the rear of the apartment was a tranquil paradise and such a surprise. Spent many an afternoon reading and enjoying the peaceful beauty of the surrounds.
The apartment is close to Gloucester tube a 5 min walk . A large Sainsburys supermarket is also 5 min walk up the road .
Great local restaurants and pubs - highly recommend Wildwood : excellent pasta and pizza at Gloucester.
The V&A and Natural history museum are a 10-15 min walk and Harrods a 20 min walk .
A big thank you to our host Norman who was very helpful, responsive and extremely pleasant to deal with.
Highly recommend this apartment .
The Luxury South Kensington ground floor apartment more than met our expectations. It is a lovely apartment and the yard is really a park that is enclosed and was a delight to our two grandchildren. The location is fabulous especially because of its access to the Gloucester tube station. All of the information provided by the owners was highly organized in binders and helped make our stay more pleasurable. The restaurant guide was exceptional, and we delighted in eating at many of the pubs (an excellent value) the owner highlighted in the House Book. Videos and books are plentiful and cataloged for one's use. The owner is very professional and responds immediately at each step of the rental process. The only difficulty we had was in accessing the key in the lockbox, a device with which we were not familiar. We would recommend this listing to anyone who wants to have a wonderful stay in Kensington.
The apartment is within walking distance of London's famous museums (Victoria & Albert, Science Museum, Natural History) and is conveniently situated for transport facilities (Piccadilly Line from Heathrow plus other lines). A large supermarket is 3 minutes' walk away and there is a wide range of restaurants nearby.
