Great stay!

  • 5 of 5

We got a great last minute deal on this unit and had the best time. The resort has everything you could possibly need - heated pool, kiddie pool, snack bar, convenience store. And if you want to leave the resort, there is so much to do within just a 5 minute drive. The unit was very comfortable and clean.

Thanks for the wonderful weekend!

The condo at pelican Beach resort was spacious, clean, quiet, and a spectacular view of the ocean. The two bedrooms with two bathrooms gave privacy. The washer and dryer in the room was a definite plus. The use of the pools, the hot tub, the gym and barbecues were all clean. Staff at the Pelican were professional, pleasant and resourceful. Plenty of room for parking your vehicle, a must to have, to shop, eat out or tour the many nearby cities, and villages. There are several fish markets with fresh seafood daily that you may cook or barbecue at your condo. The white sand beaches and the emerald coast have some of the best fishing in the world. We caught many small fish from shore, but on our last two days we caught a 10 lb big red and a 45 pound black drum, all catch and release. Our lucky Rod was left behind in the condo for the next person to use.

Check the top 10 things on trip adviser, things to do in surrounding areas, you will fill your days with entertainment and education.

New Year's Eve at the Warf had great music and entertainment and venues. Thousands watched the ball drop and fireworks were brilliant. We travelled to Bellingrath Gardens to see the Christmas light show. The vibrant displays were enjoyed by all. The shopping and flee markets had something of interest for all ages. As you drive along the ocean to Apachacola a quaint fishing village, are numerous towns with tastey meals, terrific shopping and spectacular views. If you were to drive to Pensacola there is a lighthouse, Fort, and a Museum of air crafts, and flee markets on the weekends.

Many people we talk to at Pelican Beach have made it there winter homes over the past years. I found that once you are there, you will return. I highly recommend this beautiful, beautiful area, and promised to return.

Summer Family Fun!

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed in this condo for a second time. It has everything you need and more. Loved the facilities and beach access. The staff who rented the umbrellas and chairs were so accommodating, making sure we were where "the sand meets the surf" every morning :)

A week of total relaxation and making memories! Thank you to the owners who make you feel so at home!

Clean condo, friendly management

  • 4 of 5

Overall, this is a standard housing option for beach-front tenants. My wife and two 3 year old children stayed in this condo in late May. We had a great time and the rate was good for the amenities. The owner even contacted us prior to arrival asking if we wanted to add an extra night at a lower cost since the date had opened up. She was always professional, courteous, and responsive to any inquiries which were presented to her.

Check-in to the Pelican Beach resorts was easy and the staff was pleasant. Upon arrival to the unit we found it to be clean and 100% accurate to the photographs on the Homeaway listing. There is great open ocean view from the balcony, but it's partially obstructed due to the layout of the resort building. There's not a full "east to west" shoreline view, but that's not really a problem unless you plan on staying in the condo exclusively. There was excellent beach access from the condo - just a short walk to sand.

We stayed for 6 nights and did need to use the major appliances. They are a bit aged but were functional which is what matters to us. Having the clothes washer and dryer was great because we did most of our laundry prior to heading home. Considering the amount of units and volume of people in the resort, it was surprisingly quiet.

We went grocery shopping the night we arrived and prepared two meals in the condo while eating at restaurants for dinner. Fudpucker's was good, while Joe's Crab Shack was a bad experience. The mini cafe on the main level is a great addition to the resort. There are multiple other local and chain restaurants in the immediate area, but getting to them is an issue. Traffic on Hwy 98 is terrible. There are nowhere near enough traffic lights to open up crossing opportunities so bring your patience with you if you plan on commuting during peak seasons.

The resort's main swimming pool is maintained significantly better than the indoor / heated pool.

Areas of Improvement:

The condo is in need of some handyman maintenance due to some normal wear-and-tear... for instance, the sink outlet in the master bathroom didn't function. Hair drying needed to be done elsewhere. The door's latch to the master bathroom wouldn't engage when closed.

It would have been nice to have some paper towels, or even soap in the kitchen to wash up occasionally.

It rained one day we were there, so a small selection of board games or other form of entertainment would have been appreciated.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. I'm glad you had a great vacation! We take pride in representing our condo exactly for what it is, a beautiful unit, directly on the beach! Summertime "at the beach" is always a busy time, so patience w/traffic is definitely a "MUST" wherever you decide to stay in Destin. As with all other rentals in Pelican Beach, we provide all our guests w/starter packets of what they may need to get through a day or two before having to go to the store to stock up for vacation. We provide soap, shampoo, dishwasher soap, toilet paper, and trash bags. As well as all linens, hand towels, extra pillows, and blankets. Games are stocked in the unit as we make it down there once to twice a year. I have 3 kiddos of my own, so it is always nice to have things handy for some down time. Thanks again for coming down, we hope to see you again!

Lovely location

  • 4 of 5

The condo was clean but dated. The staff was excellent and repaired the light above the stove, the garbage disposal switch, and provided a mold free shower curtain when it was needed. A rose was placed on the door for Valentine's Day! Very much appreciated. On our return home March 1, 2014 getting our damage deposit returned required three emails and a phone call to Pelican Beach to confirm, what we already knew, that there were no damages to the condo on our departure. Received the check April 7, 2014. The contract stated our deposit would be returned within a week of our departure. Apprehensive about using vrbo again . Must say our experience the previous year, 2013, at another condo was stellar.

Owner's Response: To be fair, the pictures you see on the VRBO site of our condo are completely accurate... so if our decor is not your style you may want to look elsewhere, but out of date it's NOT. As described on the website and all other reviews, we renovated our condo and ALL furnishings in a beachy feel 1 year ago. I first would like to preface this review by letting future guests know that this particular guest stayed in our condo for over 2 months in the winter, so the fact that there were a couple of things that needed attention while they were there is accurate, but as stated by guest taken care of by on-site management immediately. Guest did not notify me even once while there for 2 months that there were ANY issues. Our reservation process is simple, you deal directly with the resort. $ is not collected unless damages are done. Guest called me once AFTER her departure while my family and I were on a cruise for our spring break. As everyone knows, no cell signal while cruising in the middle of the ocean. Responded to guest as soon as I ported in New Orleans and got her message. Seemed nice & totally undertstanding then, but I guess you can't win them all!

Great week

  • 5 of 5

Very nice, well kept condo. Very quiet, too. You couldn't hear the neighbors at all.We had 6 adults and found the new pull out queen to be very uncomfortable. Bring an Aero bed?The beach is VERY crowded and people were out as early as 6 am to get a spot on the water. If you are driving, bring beach gear (umbrella, chairs, towels). If you fly, there is a Walmart and grocery store near by that has everything you would need. Make arrangements early(when you get there) if you want to rent the chairs and umbrellas from the guy on the beach. If that is full or too expensive, go to Walmart and buy $10 chairs and a $20 umbrella. We left our umbrella for the next guests in the room.

If you want to go deep sea fishing, go to Harbour Walk Charters and ask for Captain Billy Teems and First Mate Ryan on the Winter Wine. We went out on an 8 hour private charter and had the time of our lives! Billy and Ryan are amazing! It was expensive but so much fun! Caught all kinds of fish including a shark!

Owner's Response: Sharon, Naturally summertime is "Vacation" time and "Peak Season" for so many down the entire Gulf Coast on our beautiful Destin Beaches. Who could resist being a part of it? I am glad you were accomodated by the beach rental, very convienent. You can also reserve for your entire stay to eliminate having to repeat that daily next time. You are right with Alvins Beach store right at the tip of our resort's parking lot, you have everything you need within walking distance. I have not had a complaint yet about the pull out couch, however like most, they are probably more suitable for children, seeing that pull out mattresses are only 5 inches thick to accomodate folding back into couch. I will definatley look into a pillow topper as an option for guests to put on top. So glad you had a great time and rated us a 5 star! Thanks Again, Jen & Vince Peters
