Ancient Dinan: This ancient walled city is indeed a wonderful place with old Saint Malo town at the mouth of Le Rance. Both cities have colourful and amazing histories. Both are a joy to explore & discover, St Malo looking out to sea, Dinan overlooking the Le Rance river port & valley. Their cobbled streets & architecture amaze & enchant. St Malo has many tourists in the summer, Dinan has a more undiscovered feel. There are many little bars & bistros lining the ancient streets. Around every corner there is a view that pleases the eye & raises the spirits, with well over a thousand years of history it calls to be explored. Any internet search of Dinan will fill you with a hunger to tread the cobbles As Charles Dickens said Dinan is a most charming hill town and river port in Brittany, Come & find a resting place & find your mind going back through the centuries to kings & crusaders, pirates & merchants whose ships travelled to the four corners of the known world.
Hello, we had a flight of fancy and visited this ancient town and had a great brake.
We were two couples and feel that we found a gem with this apartment, large well equipt and clean, all very tasteful, its better than the pictures show. Dinan has a magic of its own and a good selection of restarants, all easy walking distance from the apartment.
We found a delicatesent and some evenings ate luxuriusly in the apartment.
If you visit and i reccomend you do, walk the parapit along the walls, and the port is lovely but the walk up was a slow affair, but very enjoyable. There really is lots here and we toured the coast road from Staint Malo, to Cap Frehel, the beach at St Cast is amazing and Fort le Latte, is very romantic. If you like to tour then this area is great, we had two days touring the coast and le Rance valley, very memorable. If you come you wont be disapointed.
We stayed in late August for a couple of weeks and were allowed to take our somewhat ancient Cocker Spaniel with us. Fortunately she is very well behaved and is quite used to staying in hotels and apartments etc. Everything we were told prior to the visit, including the website, was accurate and not, as is sometimes the case, a glossing over to hide the reality! We went via Calais and drove down in a day from West Yorkshire but if you are going and book early enough I would recommend you get a cheapie and do the St Malo crossing. You will be in Dinan in no time at all and not hurling yourself down the (pleasant though they are) French roads on your first day. Unless you are happy to stay in one place, a car is a must and certainly needed to go and visit some of the excellent places around the area. The restaurants are plentiful and varied and even the Kebab takeaway (Your chips are within the kebab!) served excellent food. If you walk down to the Port in Dinan on a warm day, I would suggest a few cooling drinks on the way down, then a few more cooling drinks at the Port itself whilst having a good meal at one of the restaurants. By that time forget walking back up and get the tourist roadtrain which for a few euors takes you all the way back up into Dinan centre. The 2nd floor appt. was way too big for the three of us although seating around the tv might be a problem for larger parties. As we took the optional garage I can only say it was great for us and would have no qualms suggesting you do the same. The owners agent in Dinan is very friendly, very welcoming and very accomodating for people such as us who arrived at a rediculous time and left at an even worse one! (She even speaks better English than many people I know). Overall I can thoroughly recommend this appartment and Dinan and if you follow the supplied "places to visit guides" which are in the supplied pack in the apartment you shouldn't be able to go far wrong.
We enjoyed this accomodation!
We felt we must come on and leave this note,
for we visited and fell in love.
Micheal and Sascha, Chelmsford.
We had the most wonderful long week end in the 1st floor appartment ( last november), my partner had chose Dinan after reading a suppliment in a sunday paper.
Dinan delivered all that it promised, the history is quit amazeing.
We wanderered the streets and and were impressed by how time locked the whole place was.
To walk along the old city walls and view over the valley and old port, it was outstanding.
The buildings are varied and quit spectacular and go back to the 14th centary.
We found many cheery faces and with our little french we found a warm welcome every where.
The appartment was great, its so big,
the size and lay out made it a joy to spend time in,
also being right in the centre of town ment no long walks home at the end of the evening.
I must say the appartment was very clean and well equipt, with some lovely furniture, very grand.
We used there garage and as parking is on metres or in car parks, its only a few pounds extra and we found the whole cost very reasonable .
The french lady who greeted us was lovely and while we had coffie and she gave us some great tips for resterants and eaterys.
We would recommend eating down by the port early evening as the sun stays longer and makes for that relax on the axis of life feel.
I would recomend the appartment and we shall visit again, but we will be returning with friends as there was only two of us and it sleeps more comfotably.
I must mention the entrance hall, it so French and large, the infomation left for us for local events and activitys was helpful, but i dont think we barely scratched the surface of this wonderful place,
We settled into a relax state all to easly and didnt explore any where near enough.
Since our return we reserched a little, and Mike has an itinery of places and events, so we are about to book another visit this year and mayby a little more active, hope this has been helpful,, Sascha.
