|Minimum Stay||3 - 7 nights|
Constructed in the Old Nags Head style of the 'unpainted aristocracy,' this house, known to friends and family as 'The Coast Guard Station,' is filled with surprising amenities.
Featuring a pool larger than the ones at most hotels on the Outer Banks, this house has been a favorite gathering place for us for many years. We are proud to be offering it as a vacation rental beginning this summer, after renovations and repairs are complete.
There is off street parking for 6+ cars. A detached garage serves as a pool room and bar, complete with flat screen tv and bathroom. This means you can have tons of fun without worrying about waking anyone up!
The huge, sprawling, multilevel deck overlooking the golf course surrounds the house and ascends to the massive swimming pool on the lower level. There is plenty of outdoor seating, with two picnic tables, a poolside dining table, chairs and loungers. The pool is completely private and sheltered from the wind by an outer wall.
We have two outside showers, one enclosed, and one on the pool deck. In addition, there is a charcoal grill.
On the main level of the house we have a large open floor plan with kitchen, dining area, and den with two sofas, chair, and large flat screen tv. Three of the four bedrooms and two baths are also on this floor. Two bedrooms feature queen beds, one bedroom features a pyramid bunk (one twin, one double). All bedrooms have flatscreen tv/cable. There is also a small office area with desk, perfect for surfing the web with our free wi-fi.
Up a small flight of stairs is a second large den with dining area and wet bar. Off to itself, it's the perfect place to put, or escape from, the kids. This room has two sofas, a 42 inch flat screen, and dining table.
The master suite is located above this area on its own private floor. This spacious room, with king bed and flat screen tv, has a private balcony with ocean and golf course views. It's the perfect place to sit at the end of the day with a beverage, or to watch the sunrise over the ocean if you are an early bird. This room also has its own bath.
We are a pet friendly, SUNDAY to SUNDAY rental in-season.

This house has been in the family for years. Originally owned by PGA tour winner Curtis Strange's mother, it's proximity to golf is what drew her to the location.
We love this property because it is so quiet and secluded, yet close to all of the action. The pool is huge, and therefore a gathering place for most of the other families we know that are vacationing in the area. There are so many different spaces to enjoy, especially the detached game room. We don't have to yell at our young adult children about keeping it down late at night, because we don't hear them. We also love how we can feed so many people. There are tons of places to sit and eat, which is great, because I love to cook.
I have to say I was very disappointed. Maybe I expected too much, like clean carpet, lamps plugged in, lights that worked, etc. The TV channel guide was wrong, the Wifi password was wrong, the cords on the blinds were broken. The room upstairs was nice, but I do think you should indicate that it is reached by a narrow spiral staircase, making it difficult to navigate for a senior citizen with luggage. And when I called the number to voice my concerns, no one ever called me back. I will definitely never use this service again.
This was my family's first vacation in the Outer Banks. We had such a great time and the house was a perfect fit. The pictures are deceiving as to how big the house actually is. There was six of us and we had plenty of room. The deck is huge and the pool is equally big. We spent our days on the beach and afternoons at the pool. You need to drive to the beach but there is parking on the side streets. We cooked our dinners on the grill and spent our evenings at the house. Our week here went way too fast. My wife and I are looking foward to our next trip to the Outer Banks and we'll definitely book this relaxing home again.
We were pleased to find a place that rents nightly since we could not do a whole week. This little cottage was just what we needed. Big pluses: you are right on the golf course so if you golf it is perfect- we were able to play golf at Sea Scape. The rest of the time we just hung out by the big pool in the backyard (no diving board like in picture) and relaxed. 5 golf balls came in to the pool- we fished 'em out and used them, no big deal! You are close to some good restaurants and Duck Donuts (best donuts ever). The couches are very comfy and so are the beds and everything was clean.
The place is not huge or fancy- but it is an older cottage but has everything you need. Minuses: The bathrooms are small and not easy for an elderly person with a walker. You can walk to the beach but you have to cross the highway. It isn't a minus but the third floor bedroom is accessed by a steep spiral staircase which was a surprise (in retrspect I see it on another review) but we were able to navigate it fine- it was just a surprise. Pillows were flat so just found extra and used 2 at a time in a pillowcase.
I can say there were some small issues that popped up but the owner was quick to respond and get the issues fixed.
Overall it was a great stay and we would go back again as well as recommend to others!
I also was there in the summer with my family and we had a excellent time we all loved the place and the pool. Everything was as described and the inside was very clean and well kept. We saw a few golf balls in the early morning in the pool but the kids liked it and they played with them. It is not as described in the other post I have no idea what he was talking about. If you have any problems at all they come and take care of it right away. We had a great time and lots to do.
I had a group of 12 people and we all were at this house for 7 days. The place was awesome, very close to great local resturant's (Art's Place was our favorite), gas stations, grocery stores, etc... but still very remote and relaxing.
I did not see a single golf ball land around the house and the gold course was PACKED with golfers all weekend. Not sure what that other review was referring too, they must have just had bad luck I guess?
The house does look a bit old and outdated from the front, but the inside was moderate and very clean! The bedrooms, beds and couches were all comfy and all in all it was a great stay.
We plan on going back next year to this same house!
Our favorite things we did during the week:
Played golf at Seascapes and Duck Woods
Sea Salt and Art's Place resturant
relaxed by the pool and beach
Went to the brewery in KDH
Wright Brothers Memorial
This review complies with the Traveler Review Guidelines. Our family visits the Outer Banks every year. This house was a particular nightmare! Here is a breakdown of our stay. The directions were accurate to get to the house. We arrive and all is well. Immediately the kids wanted to get in the pool. We let them in, and then we noticed golf balls hitting the house and landing in the pool while the children were in there. Then the unthinkable happens. A golf ball hits my daughter in her back. She was in a lot of pain. There is no sign that said beware of golf balls. I hope that people read this review, for safety! The only safe time to get in the pool is the evening, but unfortunately the pool light was out so we could not even enjoy that. Next we could not even use one of the bedrooms due to the ceiling leaking from a rain storm. Dripping on the bed, it made us think, "how long has it been this way? Is there mold?" Upon notifying the owner of these things in an immediate fashion, the owner became irritated and said she wished she had heard about this sooner! I couldn't believe my ears, nor could my wife, as we notified them right away! WATCH OUT FOR GOLF BALLS, they can severly hurt you and you WILL end up picking up many balls off of the property every day and out of the pool every day! Lastly we were told after we got home, that our pets had urinated all over the carpet. I told the owner we did not have pets, thus the reason we did not pay the pet fee. The owner said well how did those pee stains get there? I told her "ma'am my child is allergic to dogs/cats so please don't try to pin this on us and say we brought animals. She also claimed a number of other broken things,,,,,,My wife is a clean freak in general, so we find the broken door handle claim quite false. None the less, the balls will come flying.....Heads UP! I just don't want another person getting hurt! In closing, we would never rent this property or recommend it to anyone, and this is the first property we have said this about. Don't let this review dissuade you, from visiting the Outer Banks. We plan on visiting next year, just not this house!
