Gite in a quiet village in the Gironde valley.

We were greeted at the gite by a very friendly lady called Terri. The gite was beautifully clean and had just recently been renovated. It is surrounded by lovely woodlands, and there are butterflies everywhere.
On occasions we saw birds of prey overhead, and understand there are wild boar in the woods.
Our holiday was last 2 weeks of June, and the weather was great. Too hot some days. The pool was a welcome relief from the heat.
Terri keeps a discreet distance at all times. but we found her very informative when needing to know about the area.
I have listed below some of the places we visited:
Langon - approx 20 min drive.
Good market on Friday mornings. The town also has the supermarkets incuding Intermarche and Le Clerc which are open every day, but only on sunday mornings.
Bordeaux - approx 1hr 20 mins drive
We parked on the outskirts of the town and caught the tram in. It made parking so much easier. The town is very much like London - lots of museums and churches, and lots of shops.
Arcachon - approx 1 hr drive
Arcachon is on the coast, beautiful sandy beaches which stretch for miles .Just up the coast is Dune du Pilat - the largest sand dune in Europe. Park in the car park for a small fee, and climb up the sand dune to the top - the view is spectacular. There are a few shops and cafes to browse at the bottom.
La Teste Zoo - approx 1 hr drive
Situated near the Dune du Pilat, the zoo looks quite small from the outside. We bought some food to feed the animals at the kiosk, and had such a brilliant time. So good that after lunch, we bought more food and went around again. The bears and the goats are particularly entertaining.
Villendraut - approx 5 min drive
The next village when turning left out of drive. Good pizza take-away and nice restaurant called the Medievel. Also good for canooing. Pechicas to Villendraut took about hour and half and the scenery is lovely. Lots of fallen trees to navigate and a few rapids. The river is not deep, so OK if there are children.
The restaurant in the village (walking distance) is very friendly. The Plat de Jour (meal of the day) is fantastic value, 4 courses inlcuding a cheese board and unlimited wine. Try to speak french, they appreciate the effort
We can highly recommend this gite for a quiet, relaxing holiday. To just enjoy the laid back French way of life - no nightclubs or theme parks in the area, just beautiful countryside, lots of chateaux and very friendly people.
