We love the location which is so close to all of our favorite activities, including walking into Honomu Town and getting fresh baked goods and shave ice at Mr Eds, the restraunts, and fun shops. We love that Akka Falls is 5 minute drive from the house and makes a wonderful workout. We also love that Umauma Falls and World Botanical Gardens are so close, as well as Onomea Bay and Hawaii Botanical Gardens. Its great you can be at Honolei Surfing beach in under 10 minutes and that Hilo offers so much culture including the twice weekly farmers markets and any food you could possibly desire, as well as lots of eclectic shops.
We love the location. Its so close to so many wonderful attractions, that are literally minutes away. We love that Honomu town is so eclectic and you feel as if you have stepped back in time, to the one of the last remaining old hawaiian towns. We love that everyone is so friendly and the aloha spirit that fills the air...life doesnt get any better than this. We cant wait to share our home with you and hope that you too will fall in love with this beautiful hidden gem of an island. It is truly paradise.
We had a wonderful time staying in Honomu. The bungalow was so comfortable and the setting was lovely. It was nice to have two bathrooms. That spoiled us. Listening to the frogs and crickets was so peaceful. Starr was very helpful. The little town of Honomu was right there and so quaint. It was great to be able to walk a short distance to get our morning coffee and great yogurt and granola at Sharks Coffee. Good ice cream and bakery goods near by as well. It was close to Akaka Falls and other tourist attractions. One night it was so clear that we were able to see the whole sky filled with stars. We agree with Lily that it would have been nice to have coffee table or small dining table with 2 chairs in the house for when it got a bit buggy outside. We did have to go into Hilo for dinner each night as most of the places in Honomu closed at 5 or 5:30. All in all, great place to stay.
First time visitors to the Big Island, we didn't know what to expect. We began our island adventure in Hilo and loved our accommodations in the quaint, tiny community of Honomu. We especially liked Star, the property manager! So helpful with restaurant recommendations and all of the beautiful sights to see on the way to Kailua Kona. If we come back to the Hilo area, we'd love to stay at the little bungalow again. Maholo! A hui hou! Kellie and Robert
Cute house with nice furnishing. Loved the double shower heads in the 2 bathrooms. Also liked that it was 13 mins from hilo and how quiet and peaceful it was. The booklet of tips about what to visit and a lot of other info was helpful and liked that there were cute Lil shops close by for takeout and for shopping. There were a lot of little ants by the sink which may have been our fault as we had some dishes that we didn't wash right away. There was very little sink and counters pace in the kitchen. I agree with a previous comment that a small coffee table in the living space would be a nice touch. Also a light that isnt motion sensored would be nice outside as it was pitch dark when using the hot tub at night as the tiki torches didnt work. Overall it was cute and we had a nice stay
We fell in love with this place immediately. It is located in a small dead end street and surrounded by lush tropical plants. The location is very convenient - a short walk to several coffee shops in Homomu town, very close to the beautiful Akaka falls and a short drive (~15 minutes) to Hilo! The house seems to be recently updated and everything looks very new. We didn't mind the small kitchenette as we didn't plan to cook in the house anyway. It is enough for preparing breakfast and fruits. The only suggestion we have to the owners is perhaps adding a coffee table in living area - we couldn't find a place to set our plates when we were eating inside one night.
We found this house to be a delight. The kitchenette is tiny, but quite adequate for breakfast and appetizer preparation. Good closet space and nice bathrooms (no drawers though for clothes). The view is excellent from the porch where we had breakfast each morning. It's just a short walk to Honomu town with some interesting shops and cafes. We would definitely stay here again.
This property was a beautiful location. The Lanai was perfect for the view and sitting. The inside was modern and new. A major plus was two full bathrooms. The only downside was a very small kitchen area with no stove only a microwave and small frig. The property manager Starr couldn't do enough for us. I'm planning on coming back!!
