Photos and Description of the Gers vacation farmhouse rental 5 double bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, private grounds, pool, comfortably sleeps 10

A unique and design led renovation of a substantial 19th century L-shaped farmhouse in the heart of Gascony. Villa du Chêne has five bedrooms, four bathrooms, and a saline swimming pool (14m x 6m), and is set in its own private grounds of mature oaks in rolling open countryside amidst vines and meadows in the heart of Bas Armagnac, the Gers. Du Chêne consists of one enormous open plan living space of 140m² comprising a semi-professional high tech Italian fitted kitchen, dining room and sitting room. A second sitting room, laundry/utilities room, 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 3 with WCs, 1 bathroom with full disabled access, 2 further separate WCs and an internal covered terrace of 60m² complete the house. The house is fully centrally heated and solar panels supply the hot water. The exceptionally large dimensions of the house (460m²/5000sqft) and the main living area promote open plan living and provide the highest standards of comfort and style. Modernity with a beautiful rural backdrop.

Besides the gentle beauty of its landscape, the Gers has many interesting and historic attractions. It is a land of 'bastides' and 'castelnaux', small medieval towns and villages which date from the crusades. Their fortified walls and distinctive arcaded squares are nowadays the setting for colourful local markets. Auch is the capital of the Gers and its cathedral, a rare gem unmatched in the southwest, is a world heritage site. Ancient monastic abbeys (Flarans and La Romieu), Roman remains at Seviac, and endless elegant chateaux tempt the visitor. From bullfighting to duck markets, motor racing to jazz, the local scene offers an eclectic mix of activities. With its world famous gastronomy of foie gras, Armagnac, ducks, geese and garlic, plus golf courses, flying, gliding, Marciac international jazz festival, wine and Armagnac vineyards, waterskiing, walking, and a FAMOUS 3 MICHELIN STAR RESTAURANT nearby, there is something for everyone. All in full view of the beautiful Pyrenees.

Further details for this vacation farmhouse rental in Gers, France

Golf: The area boasts two excellent 18 hole golf courses of contrasting styles - Golf de Guinlet (near Eauze, a 20 minute drive) snakes its way through beautiful, undulating woodland, whilst Golf du Chateau de Pallane winds its way around the spectacular chateau with glorious views towards the Pyrenees and plenty of water to contend with! The latter offers an excellent menu du jour in its attractive courtyard to complete the experience.

Rugby: The villa is situated in the heart of France's rugby country! Local clubs, Stade Montois and Auch, have played in the European Challenge Cup against such famous English clubs as Bath and Saracens, whilst Heineken Cup regulars and giants of French rugby, Agen, Biarritz, Pau and Toulouse all play within striking distance.

Skiing: Villa du Chêne is comfortably situated just one and a half hours drive from some of the best ski resorts in the Pyrenees, making it possible to enjoy day trips into the mountains. Equally many other winter sports are available at these resorts, such as 'raquettes', cross country skiing etc. The Pyrenees are also superb walking country for the summer months.

First Class

FJH London
Review Submitted: July 15, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
Villa Du Chene is every inch the classy, contemporary and comfortable getaway destination. Perched on a hillside, nestled beside a vineyard it has a lovely outlook and although rural is within a short drive of a small town, Nogaro, and a slightly longer drive to the pretty city of Auch or glitz of Biarritz.

We were VDC's first official visitors and the owners (who live in the gorgeous rustic chateau across the road) were incredibly welcoming and accommodating, having specially purchased two highchairs and cots (+ teddy bears!) for our 1y old twins and ensuring all the food essentials, plus plenty besides, were awaiting us on our arrival. Having the owners so close proved invaluable when Hatty not only arranged but also accompanied us as translator to the local doctor - just one example of their generosity.

From the moment we drove through the wrought iron gates it was clear this is a villa with the 'wow' factor. From the wonderfully spacious shaded patio, to the ultra-modern living area through to the stunning Four Seasons-esque bathrooms - Douglas and Hatty clearly have a keen eye for detail. The bedrooms are essentially split into two wings, lending itself perfectly to families or friends holidaying together and the additional lounge area makes a great TV den or relaxation zone for those wanting some 'me time'. The pool has been cleverly designed with children in mind with an extended shallow 'splodging' area in which our babes were only too happy splashing around - even if it was a little chilly for us bigger kids!

Villa Du Chene is a wonderful property and we had a fantastic holiday. I would heartily recommend it to anyone wanting to escape the city hustle and bustle, eat and drink aplenty and explore the beautiful Gers region.

First Class.

A great family holiday!

Review Submitted: July 14, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We stayed at Villa du Chene in early July. Two families with three small children and it was perfect.

The website does not really do the house justice. It is enormous; managing to combine the space and feel of SW France with the luxuries and interior design that you associate with London or New York.

There is loads of space for the children to play both outside and in. There is even a massive covered terrace perfect for evening meals or a kick around with the boys... The pool is well designed with a children’s shallow end as well as a deeper section for adults and has commanding views over the valley of vines and corn.

Despite all of this the thing that really sets the Villa apart is the warm welcome of the owners, who live in a separate house about 100 meters down the road. Nothing was too much trouble - they shopped for us before we arrived; cooked gorgeous evening meals and ensured we were well stocked with local wines. Had we wished they would also have offered bikes; French lessons and almost anything else you could think of. They even welcomed our tearaway two year olds who visited their chickens to collect eggs each evening.

Re-developing the house has obviously been a labour of love for them and they work very hard to ensure that the service is just as good as the quality of the accommodation.

The Gers is a simple country area and within it the Villa du Chene provided a warm welcome, stylish accommodation and everything we wanted for a brilliant family holiday. We would highly recommend it.

May Bank holiday in Villa du Chene

GRK London, UK
Review Submitted: February 28, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2008
We stayed in Villa du Chene at the May Bank Holiday 2008 - before it was officially opened. We found the location charming and the property itself quite stunning. The property is very clean, very modern and spacious and ideal for families or groups. The surrounding countryside is very unspoilt and well off the beaten tourist track. Great wine tours to be had but fortify yourself becasue the local wine is quite heady. Delightful and charming family who own the property and live near by.

Review Submitted: February 28, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2008
The property is striking, with a fine combination of original feaatures and modern fittings. It's spacious, comfortable and well-equipped, and private. The welcome is warm and personal, and the setting a fine one, with the multiple attractions of the region to hand. It seems very good value, too. I think I could fairly have given it five stars if the pool had been open when I was there!

All the mod cons + rural location = perfection!

Reggie H London
Review Submitted: February 27, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2008
I stayed last May as one of the owners' first guests - and had a wonderful time. Having experienced the discomforts of older properties over the years, either with not enough bathrooms and / or with dirty and disfunctional kitchens it was a delight to stay somewhere with state of the art facilities.

The rural location is such that you not only feel you are in the countryside - you really are! The house is set slightly outside the village in its own grounds and is not overlooked.

The house is very well situated near some of the principal Gascon sites - in particular close to the beautiful bastide towns and in the heart of the famous Madiran wine appelation, now renowned for its health giving properties! Wine tasting (and eating) one's way around the stunning countryside is a joy.

This area remains at its heart typical of rural France, not least in that it still offers exceptional value for money. So despite the strength of the euro, one can still eat incredibly well and incredibly cheaply with menu du jour starting at around 10/11 euros! It helps of course that the owners are gastronomes and can help point one in the right direction...
