Photos and Description of the Nafplion vacation condo rental
2 bedrm, 1.5 bath, 2 hours from Athens in Kiveri village across from Nafplio

Top 2 floors, well landscaped, five-storey sea-front house across Argolid Gulf from Nafplio, a beautiful ten-mile drive around the gulf. 15 minutes from Astros 40 minutes from the ancient Epidavros theater or the beaches of Tolo.

From the spacious veranda there are amazing views of the ancient Argos fort and the Palamidi of Nafplio, the island of Spetes, outlines of the Mycenae acropolis, the ruins of ancient Tiryns. Much of Greek mythology is set nearby.

The sound of waves against the shore is continuous and fine swimming is accessible by walking down a flight of steps. The beach is stony but it is also private since it is hard to reach from public areas. The Tavernas of the village are a five-minute walk by a path along the water.

The house has wireless broadband. There is plenty of parking on the road in front of the house, which is built by a cliff so that the veranda in back is some 90 feet above the water while the apartment entry on the front side of the house is at road level.

Entertainment, Festivals, markets: Each of the towns in the area has summer events, from Astros around the gulf to Tolo. We have especially enjoyed going to the Argos theater, sliced out of rock to the west of the city during the peak of that city's dominance of the ‘known world’ around the 7th century BC. In recent summers the same productions by the national theater company that open in Epidavros have also been playing there, along with a variety of other pieces. Take your blackberry or iphone with downloaded text to follow along if you’d like. Both Argos and Nafplio have outdoor movie theaters that play films in English with Greek subtitles.

There are various outdoor markets. The Argos market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings near the central square is a picturesque opportunity to buy a huge range of items at a discount price, from clothing, to household wares, to Chanel perfumes (5 Euros for no. 5 marked originally at 85). There are one or two stands that sell “bio” or organic produce.

Telephone, internet, tv, cafes, supermarkets: We have a small tv, with antennae reception, and a dvd player. The house has high speed, secure wireless internet service. Blackberries, iPhones and IPads, as well as laptops (both Mac and PC) work well with our internet service. Kiveri has at least one cafe (Summer, along the water) with free WiFi, and Nafplion has a variety of cafes with free internet access, including Xenon and Noufara in the main square, and a number along the waterside.

In addition to the Village cafes and tavernas, and those in Nafplio, there are quite a few along the coastal road from Kiver to Naplio. In Miloi there are mainly souvalki tavernas; this is what the village is known for. Since we are not meat eaters, we can’t make recommendations there. More towards Nea Kios, there is a fish taverna right on the beach. The tables decked simply with table clothes are set on the sand with the water lapping at your feet; it’s tucked away, as if in a Fellini film, behind the fish market on the Nea Kios pier. Park your car and then take the narrow bridge near the Erasinos River leading from the road.

water --hot water and swimming, recreation: Hot water

There is a switch to turn the hot water on and off. It is in the electrical box to your left as you enter the apartment. It is the double switch in the middle row on the right. The “on” position is up and the “off” is down. A little red light will go on the water heater in the downstairs bathroom when the water heater us on. Give it about 10 minutes (or more) to heat the water, depending on how much hot water you expect to use. Be sure to turn it off when you leave.

The water directly below is very clear and clean and wonderful to swim in. It’s a rocky beach, and we find that it’s best to go in wearing swimming shoes made of fabric and/or plastic, easily purchased for a few Euros. You may find snorkeling worthwhile on one of the mornings when the water is calm

Much of Greek mythology occurred in nearby Nemea/ Argolid. A house from 2200 BC is two miles north in Lerna, where Hercules slayed the many-headed hydra. And the house is 1.5 hours from the Franchti cave, inhabited ca. 25,000 years.

Notes: There is a wonderful bakery, Limberis, on the right as you leave the village from our place. There you can get fresh cheese, spinach, leek, potato, sausage and other pies by the piece, as well as bread, paximadia (dried toast), including whole grain, all kinds of sweets, ice cream, milk, water and juices. In the mornings an African gray parrot named Koko resides in his cage outside the bakery. The foot path into the village and its restaurants There is also a Fish Taverna with good food beautifully set along the path above the water, from the house to the village. To find it, take the stairs down to the beach to the immediate right as you leave the house. Proceed down (about 80 steps) until you find a narrow path with a white railing on the right and geraniums and sea cucumbers on the left. You will reach the fish taverna in several hundred yards. Continue on the path to reach the village waterfront, where there are more Tavernas. We especially like Maistrali.

GREEK HOLIDAYS

5 of 5
Submitted: August 13, 2012 Stayed: July 2012
Thank you very much again for making your apartment available to us. It was very spacious, comfortable and well-maintained. We could prepare simple meals in the kitchen without problems. We think we overused the toaster ;) The Internet was fast, too, which helped us plan our trips and send photos to friends.

It's hard to find adequate words to praise the location, its scenery, views and the vicinity. The description and photos you provided were very accurate, too. Nikos, the manager, and many other people we met were all kind and helpful to us.

We had such wonderful two weeks of rest in Kiveri. Our two daughters were thrilled and they spend most of their time in water because the beach was just below. We enjoyed the shaded terrace, which was very spacious and offered truly stunning views. The weather was very hot, indeed, much hotter than what we are used to, but we did not come to Greece for rain and cold ;)

We also did a lot of sightseeing - we drove round the Peloponnese, visiting Tiryns, Argos, Astros, Nafplion, Tolo beaches, Acrocorinth, Athens, Mykene, Epidavros, Mystra, Monemvasia, Patra. All those places were spectacular - either because of their historical value or thanks to their "spirit of the place", or both. It was a tight schedule but we can now say without hesitation that Greece is really breathtaking and the reputation it has for its beauty is not exaggerated at all.

Do we really have to add that we strongly recommend this accommodation and this part of Greece?

The Kiveri views are magnificent!

We are sitting by the fire on a rainy day enjoying the
view. A few fishing boats are still out in the gulf. Nafplio is
obscured in the mist. It is a serene scene.

We cannot thank you enough for the privilege of being here. Everything
you wrote in your notes has come to life for us. The bakery is more
special than you described. And I spent a few minutes with Stavros
this morning at the market discussing sausage and weather and wine.

We have had an opportunity to see a little of life in this village and
we are grateful. Everywhere we have gone the people have been gracious
and they have shared the best they have with us. I was a little
apprehensive that Americans would be regarded with some animosity
considering the current economic turmoil but the people here are too kind to
treat us with anything but respect.

This has been a memorable experience . Every place we have visited in
the Pelopponese was only a two hour or less drive from here. But
the little ruins at Lerna in nearby Myloi were as profound as anything we have
seen.

Your home here is a magical place. There should be a waiting list to rent your home in Kiveri. Thank you so much!

Bill and Edy Pounders.

A great week

5 of 5
Submitted: October 1, 2011 Stayed: September 2011
Friend and I stayed for one week in late September. We had both visited the general area before but not Kiveri. Apartment was great; spacious lounge/kitchen area, quite well equipped, comfortable modern furniture, huge balcony with canopy and wonderful views and 2 loungers as well as the usual table/chairs for eating outside. Bathroom has excellent shower as well as WC/basin and there is a second bathroom with WC/basin only. Bedrooms are fine but a little small (especially the second one) with sloping ceilings. Owner's guide very useful both on village amenities and area attractions. We liked the local beach - a slow 10 minute walk along the seaside path accessed below the apartment. Good local bakery and small supermarkets in the village. We enjoyed trips to Nafplion including the castle, and down the coast to Leonidio. Ate well at Maistrali on the village waterfront. In late September, the area was very quiet which we liked; it seems to be primarily a place for Greeks to holiday rather than foreigners which again we liked. We would happily return.

Your own personal tour guide

5 of 5
Submitted: August 9, 2010 Stayed: May 2010
For those who are wary of renting in a town which is not covered in great detail by the tour books, have no fear. The owners have written up a fantastic guide to Kiveri and the immediate surroundings. From the mundane (where the grocery stores are) to the sublime (a fish taverna right on the beach) the guide has all that you need to know about the area.

The pictures actually don't do justice to the great views from the veranda. We spent so much of our vacation there that we had to scurry around the last few days to take "tourist photos" of the nearby sites to prove we were in Greece.

An excellent vacation - 2 weeks was not enough.

Perfect Location

"We really enjoyed our two week stay in your spacious condo. The sea view was spectacular and we particularly enjoyed watching the fishing boats from the terrace. A highlight for us was being able to buy fish directly from the boats in Neo Kios and Kiveri, fresh produce directly from farmers available along the roadside and at the twice weekly street market in Argos.

Since Nafplion was so close we were able to visit it many times. What a beautiful town! We took many interesting day trips - be prepared for winding mountainous roads!

Kiveri is a nice village with several good tavernas and the people we met were exceptionally friendly and helpful. One woman gave us 30 lemons off her neighbor's tree.

The condo was spacious, comfortable and clean. If you are planning on doing a lot of cooking you may find the cooking utensils and pot selection a bit lacking.

We highly recommend staying here."
