What we can offer our guests is close proximity to the town of Mt. Shasta and a very private, quiet setting. We are about .9 miles to town but live in the forest. Guests have killer views out of each window and a private deck for relaxation.
The loft has about 800 sq. ft. and the living room, dining room, bedroom and kitchen are all open with no walls between them. Guests have their own private carport to keep from the snow and sun.
There is a full kitchen with all conveniences except a dishwasher.
There is a queen size bed and a high quality pull out sofa-bed. Our space can accommodate 4 people.
We are pet-dander free and this is the reason we do not allow pets. Read our reviews and you will be convinced that the Garden Loft is the place for you.
We have two mountain bikes to borrow as well as two pairs of snowshoes. We have snow sleds and luges as well.
Sandy and I moved here 34 years ago from the Bay Area because of our love of backpacking. No Regrets! We raised our family here. Both Sandy and I are retired teachers. Sandy elem. school and me, high school. We love outdoor activities as well as jewelry making, playing piano, gardening, knitting, swimming, exercising, hiking, wood working and sailing.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 1977
The garden loft is a re-model of the upstairs of our wood shop. We just completed the re-model and because of our love of this area, we wanted to share our community with others.
Our visitors will enjoy the privacy and solitude as well as the close proximity to town, skiing, and many other outdoor activities that Mt. Shasta is known for. Park in the carport that is steps from the front door of the loft. Enjoy the 1 acre of flowers during the Spring, Summer and Fall. How about a two person shower with two shower heads!! Total relaxation awaits you here.
This was our third time staying at the garden loft and once again the blessings continue. We love John and Sandy! They are kind and generous offering wonderful suggestions on fun things to do. The loft was immaculate. We love the beautiful wood floors and the deck with a beautiful view of Mt. Shasta. If we could give it more than a 5 star rating we would. From playing air hockey at The Coffee Connection to beautiful creations at Alpine Originals to crispy pork tacos at Ponch and Leftkowitz...it doesn't get much better! We definitely will be coming back...Thanks again John and Sandy. You two definitely have always made us feel welcome and special!
John and Sandy were wonderful hosts - they have set up binders of helpful information for hiking, eating and general history/legends about the area, and gave us their personal recommendations of what to prioritize in our short visit. They accepted our reservation on short notice, and invited us in for wine when we returned from a busy day of hiking at McCloud Falls and Heart Lake, making us feel incredibly welcome. The loft itself is beautiful and very comfortable, with hand-crafted touches throughout and views of the surrounding garden, trees, and Mt. Shasta itself. Though we weren't there long enough to really settle in, there is ample closet space to do so and I especially loved the drawers that were inlaid into the wall - such a clever way to use otherwise wasted space! Heating worked well and the shower is great - and everything was very clean and tidy. I visited with a friend from college, and it was perfect for our stay. Would absolutely recommend it and I will definitely be back - hopefully for longer next time!
My husband and I stayed at John and Sandy's loft, and it was a perfect retreat. Everything was well thought out - from the moment we booked until we left. John gave easy directions to find them, and even emailed me the morning of our arrival day to say it was ready.
The first thing that I noticed when we walked in, was how clean it was. The kitchen was well equipped, and we cooked all our meals during our stay in Mt Shasta. The loft was very cozy and comfortable. We were able to unpack, and settle in easily. There was great information on the area at our fingertips. The bed was comfortable, and afforded a view of the starry night. It really felt like it was our space for the time we were there. They have done an excellent job in setting up the unit for visitors.
If our plans ever bring us back to Mt Shasta, we will be booking the loft again.
Our hosts John and Sandy were just delightful and the accommodation were lovely. We especially loved the very large window view from the bed--it is like being in an especially beautiful tree house. It is close to town, yet you feel as if you are in the middle of a forest (with suspiciously beautifully groomed gardens). It was perfect for our getaway--comfortable, beautifully decorated and private. We will definitely return.
We had a great time staying at the Garden Loft over President's Day Weekend. John was a gracious host, full of helpful information and very accommodating for our schedule. The loft is extremely cozy, and very accessible to hiking and other fun Shasta activities. The kitchen is well-stocked with everything you might need for home-cooking. We especially liked stargazing from the deck and looking at the mountain from the couch. We took John's recommendation to have dinner at Cafe Maddalena in Dunsmuir (a 15 minute drive), which may have been the greatest meal of all time. We will definitely be back!!
The place is so clean and comfortable. We felt so safe to have the owner actually living so close. They are so kind and email response were so quick. We enjoyed the nice view of Mount Shasta. Big window in the bedroom was a nice surprise too. We placed all gems beside the window all nights to purify with full moon. We are planning to visit again to enjoy their beautiful garden this summer.
Sandy and I propagate Shasta Lilies and we probably have the largest concentration (no. per acre) of Shasta Lilies in California and Oregon. When they bloom the fragrance rivals any flower from Hawaii. One bloom in a room will permeate an entire home.
