Venice Island is a charming beach town in southwest Florida, just 10 miles south of Sarasota along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. Venice Island is known for its white sand beaches, scattered with shells and sharks teeth, as well as its lovely sunsets and charming palm-tree lined town center.
Historic downtown Venice is built entirely in the Renaissance-style of the famous Italian city for which it was named. It contains 27 parks, the most famous being the Centennial Park which hosts free weekly concerts. Every Saturday it is the site of a farmers market selling local produce, flowers, along with art and crafts. One biking minute from our house is a free recreation center with basketball, tennis, shuffleboard courts, and children's playground.
Downtown Venice has a milelong of palm trees, outdoor cafes, specialy shops, boutiques and a live theater.
On Venice Island you will fall in love with the beaches, and the laid-back attitude of the natives.
Most guests fly into Sarasota ( 25 minutes ) or Ft Myers ( 40 minutes). Venice was recently voted as 'America's Top Place To Live' by Relocate America, and 'Where to Retire' Magazine listed Venice as one of the top eight most walkable cities.
I am an international economist and my wife an anthropologist from Concord MA. We love everything about Venice Island; its down-town charm, the fantastic beaches, and the many activities in and around town.

Venice Island is paradise, safe, quiet and has pristine beaches.
This is a stunning historic home, charming, and located in a most desired area. All original features are intact such as the wood floors and doors, stucco & clay tiles, the entrance loggia, truss ceiling and fireplace. The castle offers lots of privacy, and gorgeous views to outside gardens. A warm and charming home with lots of patios throughout giving this house that extra 'Wow' factor. A most desirable and attractive rental.
Our stay in this beautiful home was wonderful! We stayed for the month of March. Our landlord was very kind and helped to make us very comfortable. The home is spacious, clean and well equipped. It is in a very nice area of Venice convenient to everything. Our days were filled with relaxing on the beautiful beaches of Venice (of which there are many), taking long and pleasurable bicycle trips on all the bike trails and streets available to us for riding. We would start many days with a bike trip to the main pavilion to participate in the free yoga that is offered and follow that up with a nice breakfast somewhere on the island. The men spent many afternoons fishing up at Sharkeys Pier (also a bicycle ride away) while we women took a relaxing walk into town to nose around in all the wonderful little shops that offer such delightful treasures. There are many wonderful restaurants on the Island and surrounding areas and we enjoyed many of them. We also spent many days just relaxing around the house and cooking our meals in the well equipped kitchen. Venice Island offers a wonderful community theatre with shows that are very comparable to professional theatre. We saw Mary Poppins and the rock group "The Diamonds" We went to church at the beautiful Epiphany Cathedral on the Island. We also enjoyed hearing a senior choral group that performs at various venues in Venice - they were wonderful! This is our 5th year in beautiful Venice and we intend on returning again next year. We would highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a truly enjoyable vacation.
We were two couples and stayed in this lovely home for three months. The house is large enough to afford privacy yet comfortably laid out for social evenings together.
The neighborhood is charming; the grocery store is within easy walking distance, as are many shops and restaurants on Venice’s main avenue. The beach can also be reached via a short walk and was never over-crowded, even during high season.
If you enjoy entertainment, there are concerts in the park every few days, a farmer’s market on Saturdays and many other fairs and festivals throughout the winter season. If you like nature, Venice is close to state parks and even has its own rookery as well as several botanical gardens.
Béat was a gracious and accommodating host, never intrusive but always available.
This home was everything described and more. We were a family of 5 and there was more than enough room. You are in the heart of venice. The downtown area was great for eating, walking and shopping. The private beach was a lot more than we expected. The dolphins were in the surf, we found lots of sharks teeth, which beat provides the venice snow shovel to use. If you have or have not been to Venice you need to stay at this home, enjoy the Gulf and relax. Visitors from Michigan
We were a group of 6 and we found this house a wonderful place to stay. It has been well furnished and the layout provides privacy between two areas of the house. The 3 full bathrooms meant that each couple had their own space. We loved riding around the neighborhood on the two bikes! We always felt safe. The beach chairs and towels were really handy. It is possible from the house to walk to the grocery store, the beach and the main street of town which is great. Beat and Ingrid were so helpful in giving us ideas of where to eat and what to do. This was really special vacation that we will never forget! The other reviews basically say it all - fabulous :)
The home is certainly accurately described, lovely gardens and superb, spacious accommodation within easy walking distance of the centre of Venice. We were a party of six, three generations, from Canada and the UK and decided Venice would be a perfect place to enjoy Christmas 2012 together. This gorgeous house exceeded our expectations. Decoration, furnishings, facilities were all superb, the house was spotlessly clean and fresh. Host Beat met us on arrival to show us around the property and also gave us a guided tour of the area, as well as keeping in touch as our holiday progressed to make sure we had everything we needed, and dealing with all our queries beforehand. Beat even found us some Christmas decorations so that we could dress a Christmas tree for family celebrations. Bikes, beach chairs, and lots of really good books all available. The internet served the needs of 4 ipads, 4 iphones and a laptop without any trouble which was so important. I would, will definitely recommend the property to family and friends.
We enjoyed meals at Sharkys, Crows Nest, Made in Italy and Caseys (we hired a boat for the day and motored there) and other specialist fish restaurants around and about. We didn't find a bad one!
We visited Naples (nice) and Corkscrew swamp (the Audubon reserve) on our way back from Naples; the golfers enjoyed some good casual games at Venice golf club whilst non-golfers found some great shopping at malls around Sarasota. Lovely bike routes ..... and watching sunset from Casperton beach was very memorable. Siesta Beach and Turtle Beach provided a lovely day out, with great lunch at the Turtle Inn.
Great wildlife, children thrilled to see alligators (safely behind fences) and the pelicans fishing were a joy to see. We really wanted a reasonably restful few weeks and this house was perfect for that. Lots to do if we felt like being busy, and glorious beaches within 5/10 minutes walking distance for chilling out, raking for sharks teeth, swimming, volleyball, snorkelling.
All in all, a wonderful property in a great location which provided us with a very happy and memorable vacation. Fully intend to return soon!
Our house is located in one of the most desirable neighborhoods on the island. It is only a short walk to the historic downtown of Venice Avenue, a 1 mile long street, lined with tall palm trees, outdoor cafes, speciatly shops, boutiques and a community live theater. Downtown Venice is connected by a vast 27 park system. The most popular Centennial Park gazebo hosts free concerts weekly. It is the site of the farmers market selling local produce, flowers, along with arts and craft. On Venice Avenue is a free public recreation center with basketball, 6 tennis courts, shuffleboard courts, and children's playground. Venice has an assortment of unusual and charming restaurants and bars.
Venice, Florida beaches are some of the most uncrowded stretches of beach you'll find along the Florida coastline.
Venice, Florida is a smaller town that sees its fair share of local residents and visitors, but isn't near as touristy as nearby cities like West Palm Beach or Miami. The beaches in Venice boast a darker color due to a mix of both sand and fossilized materials. Venice, Florida is the shark-tooth capital of the world and many beachcombers find these hidden gems while taking their daily stroll.
