Kailua Kona House Rental Photos and Description

Gorgeous House, Upstairs Unit, 2 Bedrooms 1 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Beautifully decorated, quiet home in the Kona Highlands. Away from 'resort style' living, this very local home is the ideal place to get a true flavor of living in Hawai'i. A house that dreams are made and realized. Located in the cooler elevations, it tends to be less muggy and hot. You can relax on the lanai, barbeque and watch the sunset. Only 10 minutes from the airport and easy to get to. Beaches and downtown Kona are less than 15 minutes away. Two bedrooms, kitchen, and bath upstairs. 1 Queen Airbed and 1 twin futon available for your use. We have a complimentary Concierge service available. Specialty services are available and paid to the provider at time of service.

Keywords: home, quiet house, cool elevation, 10-15 minutes from town, beaches, Concierge Service.

About Yukiko Northon

Aloha! E Komo Mai! Welcome to our Hale! We are the Northon Family, Jeff, Yukiko, and our children Nicholette, Alyssa and Jason. We have worked together to bring this wonderful house together so that it may be used as a retreat, a vacation house and eventually, Jeff and my permanent residence. We hope to share the love we have for our home with you and give you a chance to experience the wonderful island of Hawai’i.

Currently, we are working and staying on the Mainland until the children finish High School.

Why Yukiko Northon chose Kailua Kona

We purchased this house with the intent to move back to Kona after the kids grow up. We have remodeled this house for comfort and beauty and want to share it with those that can appreciate Hawai'i and its inhabitants.

What makes this house unique

This house is located in the Highlands where the air is cooler and crisp in the evenings but still warm by mainland standards. It is a place where the *rush* of being on vacation can be let go and one can truly relax to the sounds of nature. Being among the Locals, it is very different than the 'Resort Style' living, coupled with the Concierge Service, it is by far, the 'best of both worlds'!! This house is a place where dreams are made and realized.

Kona Getaway

  • of 5

Thanks to Jeff and Yukiko for a perfect base for our trip to the Big Island. The seating and beds were really comfortable.

A special mention is due for the household and kitchen supplies, we've stayed at quite a few vacation homes, and sometimes the utensils and sundries left something to be desired.

Not so here, the dishes and pans were of good quality, nice towels and bedding, and the house is really well maintained!

The knives were even sharp!

The neighborhood is really quiet, but easy to get to the 2 major roads through Kona.

Thanks, Tod & Ann & crew.

Great trip

  • 5 of 5

The Kona Green House was perfect for our family/friends get together. We rented the house for a month and several couples got to meet and have a great time. The house is located in a quiet residential area with visits daily of many fun birds, including chickens and turkeys. We were close enough to drive to anything we needed and were very thankful that it was high enough on the hill to really cool off at night. The house came equipped with everything we would want or need with lots of extras.

A Great Family Holiday

  • 5 of 5

Kona Green House

We just returned from a most enjoyable 8 day family vacation on the Big Island where we stayed at the Kona Green House. The Big Island with its many diverse attractions kept us busily engaged day to day in a variety of activities: swimming at various Beaches, snorkelling at Kealakekua Bay and Kahaluu Beach, hiking to the black sand beaches in the Poilolu and Waipio Valleys (both involving short steep hikes but spectacular settings), star gazing on Mauna Kea, visiting the Volcanoes National Park and Akaka Falls and exploring a variety of botanical gardens, coffee plantations and farmers markets, as well as wandering the streets of Kailua, Hilo, Hawi and Honokaa. The Kona Greenhouse was a great base from which to initiate our activities in the mornings and to come home to for some rest in the evenings. It is located close to the airport (which is great when you arrive late in the evening and you don't feel like driving a long distance to find your accommodation after your flight), as well as to Kailua (a short drive to the Safeway, Walmart and Costco for all your groceries and any other supplies). The house is very clean and immaculately maintained, it is plenty spacious (more than enough room for our party of 6 adults - although one couple slept downstairs everyone's waking time was spent together upstairs either in the living room or on the wonderful lanai overlooking the ocean in the distance and listening to the birdsong) and it is has all the amenities and equipment needed for ones holiday stay. A well stocked and equipped kitchen, a clean working BBQ, laundry facilities, good WIFI reception, snorkelling equipment and portable mini coolers with reuseable ice packs and containers for packing light lunches all stood us in good stead. The Big Island is a wonderful and beautiful place to explore and the Kona Green House is the perfect place to stay while doing so. Thank you/mahola Yukiko for the use of your home.

A Relaxing Stay at the Green House

  • 5 of 5

I loved my stay at the Kona Green House for so many reasons! First of all, the location was perfect. We arrived in Kona on one of their most humid days in July (even the locals were complaining about the humidity!) and were happily surprised to find how much cooler it is above Kona at the Green House- only 10-15 minutes from town, yet many degrees cooler. That (and the very comfortable beds) made sleeping SO much easier each night. Since we were above Kona, we were close to Mamalohoa Hwy, making our trips out to Holualoa (art galleries and Holuakoa Garden Cafe, home of killer Kona Coffee Creme Brulee!) and Honaunau (Historic park, sea turtles, and great snorkling) easier. Every morning we were awakened to the most delightful sounds of island birds, as if we were in our own tropical rain forest! The owner made sure that her guests were well taken care of, from the concierge service (which we used for airport pick up and drop off) to having extra beach towels, coolers, and boogie boards available. The home was clean and beautifully maintained. The kitchen was well-organized and each room nicely decorated with plenty of space to unpack and settle in for awhile. I was really grateful to be able to use the washing machine, dryer, and wifi and really loved the big screen tv! I truly felt at home. If we had more time, we would have made good use of the barbecue and enjoyed some meals out on the patio. I have already recommended The Green House to several friends who are thinking of traveling to the Big Island, and I can't wait to visit again!

Kona Greenhouse

Kona Greenhouse is a beautiful, clean, wonderfully relaxing place to stay! The house had all the amenities necessary and it was well organized and easy to find what we needed. One of the great perks is its location! Just a short drive (10-15 min.) up the mountain from town and yet always 5-10 degrees cooler than the town down below! It made for a good night's sleep on the super comfy beds! I can't wait to go back and will recommend this fabulous house to all my friends and relatives planning a trip to the Big Island!

There are so many wonderful adventures that you can have here in Hawai’i, that it would be difficult to list them all, however, here are a few that we have enjoyed.

1) Dolphin Quest: Take the time to learn all about the dolphins and interact with them. It is fantastic to be able to touch them and learn about them.

2) Kohala Kayak and SUP: Sean, of Kohala Kayak is a wonderful guide and teacher of Stand Up Paddle. He also does Kayak trips and other water activities. He is knowledgeable about the area and is a very patient teacher.

3) ZipLine: This is quite the adventure and very fun.

4) Mauna Kea Observatories: This is a fantastic day trip. Be sure to take the time to adjust to the elevation at the store for at least an hour before continuing up to the Observatory. There are tours available if you do not want to go up yourself.

5) Paleaku Peace Garden: A wonderful place for looking at different plants and scenery. They have a garden representation of the Milky Way, which is pretty cool.

6) Akatsuka Orchid Gardens: This place has an *amazing* collection/display of orchids for sale and display. It’s on the Hilo side of the Island.

7) Hawai’i Tropical Botanical Garden: Located off of Hwy 19 near the Hamakua Coast. The drive going to the garden is also quite beautiful.

Well, there are lots more adventures available, but, half the fun is finding them!

You may also contact Kona Concierge to book and plan other available adventures of your choosing.
