About The Owner

In 1976, a young adventurous well traveled Gary Galbraith acquired pristine acreage on the upper Kenai River at what he thought was the most beautiful place in the world. A 3rd generation fisherman and raised on fishing vessels off the coast of California, Gary brought his love for deep sea fishing and water sports to south central Alaska. A slight difference to his business was that he also guided rafting trips around the state and as well as being one of the state’s top kayakers, offered kayaking and canoe lessons as well. To feed his adrenaline junkie habits in the off season, Gary shared his back country winter pursuits with others in offering snow cat tours and heli-guiding. For those not familiar with the area and to put this all in perspective, there are not too many rivers around the Kenai Peninsula and throughout the state that Gary has either rafted or completed first descents on in a kayak, or snowcapped skiable mountains in this back country that he has dipped his ski tips into. This may seem like quite the life to lead, but all was not work and just play. On top of building his outdoor adventure company and river front cabin accommodations, he worked in the Oil Industry and for the Alaska Department of Transportation while supporting his family.

Why The Owner chose Cooper Landing

Our Cabins truly provide you with an Alaskan experience. Our Old River Front Cabin dates back in history to 1937 and was built by early Kenai Peninsula gold miners. Our three other cabins have been hand built by Gary and local legendary cabin builder, Paul Smith. From selecting, hauling and peeling the logs, to hand building the cupboards and shelves, all our cabins have a unique personal and cozy touch.

What makes this cabin unique

At the end of your day, relax comfortably in a cozy, private Kenai River cabin which is on our beautiful grounds spread out over 5 acres. Your cabin will be located either on or near the water and away from the crowds. Enjoy an evening barbeque with your own grill, sitting next to your own personal campfire or playing a round of horse shoes. Linens, cooking utensils, and dinnerware provided. No pets please.

Alaska Rivers Company is located on the upper Kenai River in Cooper Landing, located 1 ½ hours leisure scenic drive from Anchorage, conveniently centrally located 45 minute drive from Soldotna and 45 minute drive from Seward.

Just like San Juan Capistrano we have swallows that return year after year! If you are visiting us in June through early July, be sure to look up and watch as the swallows dive bomb through the air as they deplete our lovely supply of mosquitoes, no-see-ums and black flies around Alaska Rivers Company. If you get a chance, try to count how many swallow boxes we have around the grounds. But please, when nesting, leave these little guys alone.
