Welcome to our tropical paradise! A special feature of this lovely unit is that it is the closest to the ocean, as well as having a true 180 degree panoramic view. There are beautiful ocean and palm views to the south and north from the spacious lanai and the sandy beach and tide pools are directly in front of the lanai. This unit provides the ultimate tropical experience.

Begin your stay by entering into the soaring lobby adjoining the pool, with easy access for you and your luggage from the garage to this second floor unit.

Just imagine starting your day with breakfast of tropical fruit and Kona coffee on the large lanai. The mynah birds in the palm trees will serenade you while the tropical tapestry unfolds with blue skies, blue ocean, white foamy waves, all framed by green coconut palms. You will be entertained by the surfers at the famous Banyon Beach, passing fishing boats, paddle canoe teams and snorkel and dive boats that parade past your lanai. The dolphins are often seen playing just offshore and in migration season, the whales join the scene.

After breakfast, walk the tide pools and view colorful fish and the turtles in residence. Sun and relax on the sand or on chaise lounges at the water's edge, or under the shade of the gently blowing palms.

If you prefer more privacy, enjoy the chaise lounges on your private lanai for reading, napping or just relaxing and enjoying the sights and sounds of paradise, lulled by the island breezes and ocean flow.

During the day, visit nearby Kona Town for shopping, fresh fruit markets or the royal Hulahee Palace and grounds. Explore the art galleries and dine in one of the many waterfront restaurants. If you are feeling more energetic, check out the nearby White (Magic) Sands Beach for sunning and body surfing, or snorkel in the protected Kahalu'u Bay where you can also take beginning surf lessons.

Another 5 minutes south on Alii Drive is the Keauhou Shopping Center, adjoining a 36 hole golf course at the Kona County Club with both water and hill challenges, and amazing view of Keauhou Bay at its boat harbor. Here you can depart on kayak trips to explore coastal caves or dive from cliffs into the Pacific Ocean.

Return to your condo to enjoy a swim in the heated pool followed by lunch on the lanai. Nap, read or go exploring.

On other days, you can explore 30 miles north, visiting the beautiful white sand Hapuna Beach for swimming and body surfing, or just enjoying the fantastic weather and views.

You may want to try a trip to the artist village of Hawi on the far northern end of the Island. Enjoy the galleries and on a clear day, the view of Haleakala volcano on Maui, and if you are ambitious, hike the steep trail to the black sand beach at the end of the Pololu Valley.

At the northeastern end of the Island, visit the Waipio Valley where you can hike, rv, or even ride deep into the tropical valley on horseback (advance reservations required for RV and horse trips). Returning to Kona, you will pass through the Parker (cattle) Ranch and the charming ranch town of Waimea with several excellent restaurants.

Longer trips of 90 miles will take you to see the world famous Kilauea volcano and Volcano National Park, or even a full day drive around the Island visiting the ancient historical sight of The Place of Refuge, the Kona Coffee plantation tasting rooms (and tours) and Pualu'u Beach (black sand). If you are ambitious, or on another day, you may want to visit Rainbow and Akaka Falls near Hilo, the incredible botanical gardens north of Hilo, and the Kamakua Coast.

As night falls, there is no more dramatic vista than the sun setting behind the palm trees while you enjoy 'pupus' (snacks) and cocktails on your lanai. Go to Kona Town for dinner at the Kona Brewery or one of the fine restaurants. If you prefer staying home, you can use one of the four beach gas barbecues and picnic tables along the low seawall and enjoy your dinner while the last of the surfers ride to shore and take in the thrilling reds, blues and purples of a tropical sunset. Here, you may meet fellow guests, or have the opportunity to chat with one of the local net fishermen who cast their nets at the edge of the tide pools.

Returning to the lobby or your unit, you can email friends and family at home, with the sincere wishes -- 'Wish you were here in paradise.' Enjoy board games, listen to CDs, watch TV or read, and then drift off to sleep, lulled by the waves caressing the beach outside your floor to ceiling windows.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Kona Bali Kai and this unit in particular. The waves comes within 30 feet of the building, interesting tidepools and friendly sea turtles make for enjoyable exploring just outside the condo. We loved the nearly 180-degree vista from the lanai, and spent every night there watching the sunset. The condo has all the amenities one could need, including a well-stocked kitchen and beach gear. We rented snorkle gear at the shop next to the lobby for a very reasonable fee. The location of the property is ideal; close enough to Kona town for access to restaurants and shopping, but far enough away to not feel too hectic. A couple of small beaches are within easy walking distance. If you don't mind that the pool is on the interior aspect of the property, this is an ideal place to stay. We look forward to returning to Kona Bali Kai and this very comfortable condo.
