This impressive red sandstone mansion with neo-Gothic features was once the family home of the nineteenth century British Liberal Party Statesman and Prime Minister William Gladstone. It is set in ten acres of attractive grounds and the interior combines classic country house with contemporary style. The house offers the opulence one would expect from a stately home whilst retaining a relaxed, comfortable feel. The house was formerly a luxury country house hotel, so its facilities are exceptional and provide the highest level of comfort including piping hot water round the clock. The Scottish Borders is renowned for its natural beauty and is a destination for all seasons. Covering about eighteen hundred square miles, the area stretches from the rolling hills and moorland in the west, through gentler valleys to the high agricultural plains of the east, and on to the rocky Berwickshire coastline with its secluded coves and picturesque fishing villages. The House stands half a mile from a pretty village typical of the region, with a range of curiosity shops and attractions. There are numerous walks in the surrounding area with several golf courses nearby, riding can be arranged at a local stables, shooting, fishing and all the usual pursuits that the Scottish Borders is renowned for are on the doorstep.
