The Perfect Week

We are so Thankful to our gracious, and helpful hosts for sharing their incredible cottage with us. We've been looking for the perfect up-north spot for years and this was something really special. Everything was clean and new, but still charming, and with a respect for the history of their unique, private community.
The beach was perfection. It has soft sand, with crystal clear, knee-high, water that goes waaaay out. It was ideal for our little kids, who loved jumping off of the dock and making sand castles.
The lay out of the house is great; spacious but feels cozy. The bedrooms were big, and well decorated with nice linens, and well spaced from each other for a little privacy. We loved the cute kids room with all of the beds and quilts upstairs. You felt like Peter Pan could have come flying through the window at any moment.
The amenities such as cable and wifi were much appreciated and worked perfectly. As much as we like to unplug on vacation, having internet so that my husband could do a little work, and cable to watch the Olympics was a must. The connection was so good he was able to do video conferences. After having to drive into town for wifi at previous cabins, this was nice to have.
The cabin is part of a historical association that provides meals in their clubhouse, and we loved hearing the old dinner bell ring. We all felt like we were at sleep-a-way camp. The meals were delicious and oh so convenient! It was great having meals taken care of. There was always something on the menu for everybody, with lots of desserts and ice cream cones to take down to the beach.
We were so busy, between the beach and the tennis courts, and the trails at the state park. Our daughter caught her first fish on Lake Solitude, we canoed down the Au Sable river, explored the Tawas Wine Festival, and we watched kite boarders out on the point. There's so much to do.
My only hesitation in writing a recommendation is that if they rent it again next summer it might fill up, and we'd lose a spot. It was fantastic!
